10th Honors Literature/Composition Fall 2011
Lester and Hamilton
Introduction
A “research design” jump-starts your paper, gets you thinking about your topic in a
concentrated way. Your presearch work of the last few days should inform the content that will
go into this proposal.
The research design must be typed and may be single-spaced.
The proposal must be typed in Google Docs so that you can share it electronically with
Ms. Hamilton and Ms. Lester; if you are working in a group, you should share it with
your partner(s).
Parts of your Multigenre Research Design
1) Identify your topic.
2) Describe what you know about your topic; you may do this in paragraph format or as a bulleted
list. You should use the original list you did in class on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 with Ms. Lester
(she has your graphic organizers for this task).
3) Tell what you want to learn about (Remember Curious George? Think of yourself as the Curious
Grizzly.)
4) Describe the origins of your research. What sparked your interest in the topic? Why do you want
to know more about it?
5) List at least a dozen questions you have about your topic.
6) Describe your plan for collecting and organizing information about your topic.
>this may include using tools like Google Docs, Symbaloo, Scoop.it, NoodleTools
>this may include a discussion of the types of sources you might explore using (look to the research
guide at LibGuides for specific sources and search engines)
7) Provide a preliminary bibliography---for this phase, you can either use the MLA style citations
generated by the databases or you may go ahead and enter them into NoodleTools. If you are
working with a group, remember that one person should create the “project” in NoodleTools and
then share it with your partner(s).
