National science day is celebrated as one of the main science festivals in India every year by organising science exhibitions, seminars, workshops, symposiums and many other activities.
This year theme was "Scientific Issues for Development of the Nation".
Cricketer BK Garudachar Passes Away.
Bindiganavile Krishnaswamy Garudachar passed away in Bengaluru, Karnataka at the age of 99. He was India’s oldest first class cricketer from the pre-independence era.
President Pranab Mukherjee declared Kerala as the first digital state of the country.
It was announced by President after launching a digital empowerment campaign of state at a function to be held in Kozhikkode.
It was declared as digital state due to following achievements:
(i) The state has achieved 100 percent mobile connectivity.
(ii) 75 percent e-literacy.
(iii) Broadband connectivity in the Panchayat level.
(iv) Highest record of digital banking .
(v) Bank accounts linked to Aadhar card and e-governance in all districts.
Dr Avinash Chander awarded Aryabhata Award.
The Aryabhata Award were launched on April 19, 1975. It is presented annually to an individual for outstanding lifetime contribution to the promotion of astronautics in India.
Avinash Chander, former Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister and Director General of the DRDO, has been awarded prestigious Aryabhata Award of Astronautical Society of India in recognition for his contribution to missile technology.
India, UK to collaborate on crop science.
Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology has signed a MOU with top UK research institutions to enhance research on crop sciences, particularly crop resilience toward climate change and capacity building.

crop resilience toward climate change and capacity building.
The aim of the agreement is to enhance collaborative research,
promote knowledge exchange, and support capacity building
to develop resilience in food security.
It will also focus on the establishment of a joint India-UK Plant
Science Centre.
