Week 15 – December 9 – 13

Kindergarten and Cross Cat Lesson Objectives:
K.3 (E) Follow one and two step directions
k.3c-f (E) Build oral communication skills/rules for group discussion
K.5 (E) Hold book correctly, identify the front cover, back cover, and title page of a book
K. 6 (E) Demonstrate and understand that print conveys meaning
K.8 (SS) take turns and share, be responsible, follow rules, use self-control, be honest, be kind, and participate in group settings
K.7 (M) counting pennies
K.4b (E) rhyming words

Kindergarten General Lesson Objectives:
*Students will learn about the title, author, and illustrator and what jobs they do pertaining to books.
*Students will continue learning about the correct way to check out books and book responsibility.
*Students will listen to and help count pennies as the story is read to them.
*Book(s) to read: Benny’s Pennies by Pat Brisson
Procedures
* Talk about cover of book, title page, author, and illustrator. Talk about fiction/non-fiction
*Show the students the paper pennies and discuss it. Ask students about other coins they have learned about.
*Put the 5 paper pennies on the white board. Take one penny down every time Benny uses one.
*Read Benny’s Pennies. Students will help count pennies throughout the story. Students will also discuss the order
in which Benny bought items. See if students can tell what word rhymes with the persons last name that Benny buys
things from.
*Students that returned their book will check out a book from the easy section. Students that did not return their
books may look at magazines.

First Grade Lesson Objectives:
1.2 (E) demonstrate growth in the use of oral language and use of word meanings, adapt oral language to fit the situation
1.5(E) apply knowledge of how print is organized and read
1.8 (E) expand vocabulary
1.11 (E) determine if a book is fiction or non-fiction
1.10 (SS) Respect other, follow rules and practice self-control, responsible for own actions, value honesty sequencing
1.7 (SS) Goods and services, consumers & producers
1.8 (SS) Economic choices as money is limited
1.9 (SS) People save money for future to purchase goods and services

First Grade General Lesson Objective:
*To identify author, illustrator, the title, the title page, the spine, and the front and back cover of a book.
*To determine if the book read is fiction or non-fiction
* To learn/review about goods, services, making economic choices and saving money for the future
*Book to read: Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday by Judith Viorst (BMW library)
Or The Berenstain Bears Get the Gimmies (if first book has been read to them already)
Or
The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble with money (if first and second book has been read to them already)
Procedures:
*Students will identify the author and illustrator and determine if the story is fiction or nonfiction
*Read Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday. As the teacher reads the story, she will use the white board to
record the money amount Alexander started with, and will subtract his spending as the story is read.
* Students will use browsing sticks to check out books from the fiction and/or non-fiction side of the library
*Students may check out 2 books if both were returned or one book if only 1 is returned.
Week 14 –December 2 – December 6
Second Grade Lesson Objectives:
2.9 (E) Comprehension on non-fictional text
2.1 (E) Understand oral language structures
2.2 (E) Expand understanding and use of word meanings
2.3 (E) Use oral communication skills
2.10 (SS) respect and protect others’ rights and property, demonstrate self-discipline & self-reliance
2.2 (SS) American Indians

Second Grade General Lesson Objective:
* Students will identify the story as fictional text.
*Students will begin learning how non-fictional books are organized on the shelf
*Students will learn about call numbers on non-fiction books.
*Students will listen to a story and work together to tell about the beginning, middle, and end of the story
* Book(s) to read: The Rough-Face Girl or
or The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush (if above book has been read to them already)
or The Gift of the sacred dog (if first and second book has been read to them already)
Procedures:

*Students will identify the author and illustrator and determine if the story is fiction or nonfiction.
*Read the story, The Rough-Face Girl. The teacher will ask what story they have heard that reminds them of
The Rough-Face Girl.
*After reading the story to the children, the teacher will call on volunteers to tell about what happened in the
beginning, the middle, and the end.
*Students will use browsing sticks to check out 2 books (if both books are returned- 1 book if only 1 is returned)
