The light emitted from the sun
examples in my opinion, innocence
likewise of a child’s. This being the
filtrated shades of brightness
changing in shade as it rises on this
picture.

The open smile of
his, is something
an awe-struck
child would do.

Steve Carell’s
comb over
suggests overt
neatness that
happens to be out
of place, given his
choice in shirt. His
polo neck shirt, is
that of a 7 year
old’s for instance.
The style wouldn’t
be out of place
hadn’t it be the
wearing of the
polo neck shirt.
Ciaren Cawley
The scheme of
colours are ones of
lightness and
softness. They all
harken back to the
motif of childhood.
And that Carell’s
character is in such
a position.

‘The’ in ‘The 40
Year-Old
Virgin’, Implies an
unusualness to a
man of his age
being sexless.
‘The’ connoting
pedestaling and
him being the only
one of his kind.

Again with
immaturity, the
wristwatch is in the
styling of a child’s. As
oppose to a watch
entirely made from
silver and gold (A
usually worn type for
men of his age). The
type of wristwatch
being evident through
the shape and
outline. This type of
digital watch having
no definite shape –
just being inclusive
with its mold.
The tagline indicates to me, Carell’s
viewing of the ‘issue’ of being a
virgin, something that only getting to
now in his lifetime - completely
acceptable. The tagline also shows
relation to Steve Carell with the
tagline and his name partition in title
being the same faint, lime green.

The typeface is of
ordinary design. This
portrays regularity; as to
say being abstinent to the
main character, is
accepted or something
deserving indifference. If
that wasn’t the case, the
font may have been the
daunting ‘Goudy Stout’ in
usage, for one.
Hypothetical plot if not having watched the movie: By all the aspects of this poster – I can gather
that the plot of this movie is one of continuation, than of forceful removal of his virginity.
(‘forceful removal’ being how co-workers of his actively try to ‘set him up’ throughout the movie
as it were) If this were the opposite, Steve Carrell would not be entrancedly smiling, would not
have sunshine gleaming to his back, a brightly coloured shirt and kempt hair.
