2. Objectives The students will be able to put different text together to make their names. Students will work with cutting and gluing. Students will be able to pick out letters within words.
3. Standards K.1.17 – Read their own names K.1.11- Listen to one syllable words and tell the beginning or ending sounds. K.1.5 – Distinguish letters from words.
4. Letters In My Name Students search through magazines or newspapers, cut out, and glue the letters that make up their name. The first couple times have the students find their name card out of a basket to help them with the letter recognition. Have first and last name cards in the basket for the students to work with.
5. What Do I Begin With? Students are given a sheet with different pictures on it. Students say the name of the picture and then cut out and glue the beginning letter of that word using the newspaper and magazines.
6. Additional Information As the students get older you can also use this with their spelling words instead of their names and the starting letter.
