There are a wide varietyof filminstitutionsandproductioncompaniesaroundthe worldwithmany
beingmore suitedtospecificgenresthanothers.Aswe are lookingatthe thrillergenre,we must
mainlyfocusoninstitutionsthat are well knownforproducingthrillerfilmswiththe mostprominent
beinguniversal studiosandWarnerBro’s.Howeverasa smallerfilm, we couldlooktowardssmall
Britishbasedcompaniesthathave afocus onhelpingsmall,Britishproducedfilms.
Our filmhasan addedarea of depthto it.As well asbeingapsychological thriller,ithasa
fewelementsof the horrorgenre to keepitinteresting.Inthiscase we couldalsolookat a varietyof
horror filminstitutions,especiallyseeingassome goamissdue to the genre.Asthe horror influence
on our filmisonlylight,we maynotbe lookingtowardsthe more mainstreamhorrorinstitutions
however,asthe filmdoestake inspirationfromproductionssuchas‘Nightmare onElmStreet,’they
are certainlyworthlookingat.
LIONSGATE AND TWISTED PICTURES:
As a pairing,the twoinstitutionswouldworkperfectlyformythrillerfilm.Lionsgatehave atendency
to produce filmsof the thrillergenre withTwistedPicturesproducingsome of the mostwell-known
horror filmsoverthe last10 years.Whilstworkingtogether,Lionsgatedistributedthe twisted
picturesfilm‘Saw’aswell as‘Saw3D’. Beingsucha highlyregardedseriesof filmsof asimilargenre
to ours meansthatthere wouldbe a lotof potential if these 2institutionsweretoworktogetheror
evenindividuallyforourfilm.Anothersolidcompanyforourfilmwouldbe PlatinumDuneswhichis
run by Michael Bay.Theyare the producersof Nightmare onElm Street,afilmwe tookgreat
inspirationfromand sothisissomethingthatcoulddefinitelywork. Ultimately,these are the three
institutionsthatwe wouldbe aimingtolookat whenproducingourfilm.Thisisdue toboth pedigree
and the typesof filmthatthe companyproduce.

2. FILM INSTITUTIONS THAT WOULDN’T WORK:
As muchas there are othercompaniesthatdoproduce filmsof the horror andthrillergenre,none of
themwouldworkquite aswell asthe afore mentionedduo.
All three of the above companiesare majorfilminstitutions.20th
Century Fox producedGone Girl
whichisa psychological thriller.However,the problemwiththismediacompanyisthattheyare far
more focusedonfamilyfriendlyandcomedyfilms.Forexample,the institutionproducedAvatar,
Star Wars and The SimpsonsMovie.In general,these are filmsthatwe don’tparticularlywanttobe
associatedwithourfilmdue tothe sheerdifference ingenre.Althoughtheyhave producedfilms

3. such as FromHell and Alien,the majorityof the audience are familiesandthisisa reasonas to why
we don’twant to use thisinstitution.
The same can verymuch be saidfor bothUniversal PicturesandWarnerBros.Warner Bros
inparticularhave producedgreatfilmssuchas Fridaythe 13th
andthe Dark Knight.These films
certainlyfall underthe same genre asoursbut one problemisthatthe institutionitself seemsto
mainstream.The films,the DarkKnightespecially,are farmore actionpackedthan the filmthatwe
are creatingandagain we wantviewerstoexpectsomethingwithmore tension,somethingthat
buildssuspense.Universal studiosprovide asimilarissue asthe previous.Theyare more often
associatedwithdramand romance filmsasoppose tothrillerandhorror.Theymay have distributed
filmssuchas DeadSilence butare filmdoesn’t consistof romance ora lotof drama and forthis
reasonthese filminstitutionsare farlesssuitedtoourfilm.
