2. C- COSTUME
Costume has a very significant effect on what u, as an audience
perceive of the characters. Costume can be used to instantly show who
is a villian and who is a hero etc. Typically in action movies the
villian/anatgonist will wear black clothing and will look very dark and
subdued in what they are wearing. Where as a hero/protagonist will
typically be in some kind of suit such a smart, tailored work suit or
superhero outfit. This makes them look trustworthy, responsible and
approachable. James Bond is clear example of this. You can tell a lot
about a character from their costume such as bender from the
breakfast club is seen in baggy jeans, leather jackets and bandanas
which all have representaions of the 1980 bad boy!
3. L- LIGHTING
high key lighting (bright light) can be used to show a lack of anxiety
and fear in a scene. The bright light can be used to show the time of
day eg morning yet it can also be used to show the innocence and
happiness in scenes such as the scene in the faults in our stars where
the couple go for a date in the park where its nice and sunny. It creates
a pathetic fallacy. The low key (dark light) is used in the opposite way
which creates fear and tension in a scene. Most horror and thriller
movies are low key as it builds on the mystery and fear in the storyline.
For example in Annabelle when the preist is in his car driving to the
church with the doll next to him.
4. A- ACTORS
Actors have a very significant role in movies. If an actor is typically type
casted you will be able to tell the type of character they are playing for
example Brad Pitt typically plays a hero and someone who helps the
other characters. Actors psychical apprearances will also have an effect
on how we perceive them for example sylvester stallone is known for
playing a bit of a gangster/villian due to his big build and masculine
threat.
5. M- MAKEUP
The makeup of characters can also build emphasis on their
representation for example, If a teen girl heavy in makeup with blonde
hair you’d see her as the ‘popular’ in highschool. If they was covered in
blood and cuts you would presume they were involved in an accident,
fight or were attacked.
6. P-PROPS
Props have an impact in mise-en-scene.
Props can change a persons motives and appearance. If someone was
seen with a gun would automatically think they will cause problems and put
people in danger. If a boy was to hold flowers and a ring in a box you
would instictively think they are going to propose or be romantic.
8. What is foley?
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to
film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio
quality. These reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of
clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass.
