They have been trying to understand how students perceive campus safety, their fears of crime and how they look to continue to be safe. The way
students look at safety determines if their fear of crime comes from the environment or if it comes from personal fear. They started focusing on
gender differences and how males and females feel about their safety at their schools. According to one of the articles that was found researchers
(Jackson, Veneziano & Rigger, 2004) suggested that development of a policy that screen potential students in an effort to reduce crimes on

Despite their opinions, free speech was a great way in this situation for students to rally together and publically inform the rest of campus of their
beliefs. In the school newspaper, The Daily Emerald, CJ Ciaramelle wrote "About 300 students from across the campus community – student unions,
Greek Life, the ASUO, the Survival Center, the Women's Center– showed up at the meeting to protest the Forum" (1). Although the majority of people

The United States, the land of the free, prides itself in the rights given to its people. Despite the acclaimed freedom of America, Americans, especially
college students, are not as free as the founding fathers would have hoped. When the First Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, Americans
were given the Freedom of Religion, Speech, the Press, Assembly, and Petition. While the Constitution clearly grants these rights to all U.S. citizens,
individuals still fight for these freedoms. Specifically, the Freedom of Speech is an ongoing issue which people continue to pursue. This freedom is
essential to student growth in higher education, yet college students are often limited by what they can say while on campus. The censorship of
individual and group speech threatens the purpose of a liberal education. It also limits the freedoms of a free society.

Over the last two and half decades, campus crime as a social issue has come to the forefront of public attention and is regularly reported in both print
and electronic media. Specific and general legislation has also been passed in order to prevent campus crime from occurring as well as to educate
those who are either in danger of victimization or have the ability to prevent victimization and assure that justice is done. However, campus crime is not
a new issue in regard to its occurrence, only in that it has finally attracted both public and media attention. Furthermore, Sloan III and Fisher (2011)
suggest that this movement to recognize and prevent the occurrence of crime on college and university campuses (known throughout this book as the
dark side of the ivory tower) did not pop up overnight. Instead, they argue that through a long and arduous process, four different activist groups were
able to socially construct the problem as a proper and pertinent social issue, and influence legislation designed to curb campus crime, and hold those
responsible, accountable for their action or inaction. Before exploring the process of constructing campus crime as a social issue, Sloan III and Fisher

The purpose of this study was to understand the college students' perceptions of slut–shaming discourse. The research indicated that there was a strong
correlation between cultural expectations and slut–shaming. According to the results, the perceptions of slut–shaming are influenced by aspects such
as: class, culture, media, gender, feminism, ethnicity, religion, and sexuality. Overall, college students were found to be on crossfire of slut–shaming
discourse on a college campus. It was concluded, based on the research, the participants have significantly identified with judging a woman by the way

she dresses. It is recommended that further research be devoted to slut–shaming perceptions in different: cultures, groups, regions, religions,
organizations, media and institutions.

Each university is different in it is own way, because in each building there are different nations, faculties, and majors as well as the atmosphere of the
university. However, sometimes there are some common features between two universities and that build a similarity between the two. In the education

So simply, one university is majoring in a science field, and the other one is more practical. The difference causes differences in the method of studying
in these universities. Each university required a specific method of studying, for instance, studying engineering required understanding math and
physics concepts and the ability to solve equations. However, studying communication and journalism required an understanding of the historical and
political topics and the ability to read and write fast. As a result, a different type of work needs to be done for each university because they are
different. As an illustration, at Northwestern University, the students need to write many reflections and research and read the newspapers to see what
is happening the world to major in this field. However, at Texas A&M, the students need to study calculus and mechanics and understand the process of

Introduction: Background Generally speaking, universities place emphasis on students' intellectual development more than their personal growth.
Nevertheless, many students experience college life stressful. College students often find themselves feeling isolated as they begin their lives on a
university campus (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2014). Therefore, their social needs in addition to their academic needs must be addressed (see Corey, et al.,
2014; Ramsay, Jones, & Barker, 2007). Developmentally, college age individuals transition from adolescence to young adulthood (Gardiner &
Kosmitzki, 2010). One of developmental theorists, Erik Erikson (in Lerner, 2002) postulated that young adults' developmental task is negotiating their
identity within the intimate relationship. Furthermore, CГґtГ© (2006) stressed that reflecting and exploring their lives in adolescence to emerging
adulthood helps them obtain what he called identity capital, which refers to "a repertoire of personal resources" (CГґtГ©, 2006, p. 91). It includes both
tangible and intangible resources and attributes (CГґtГ©, 2006). Lack of engagement or passivity of adolescents and emerging adults result in diffusion
("apathetic noncommitment" (CГґtГ©, 2006, p. 104). Gleaning from these theorists' observations, college students face developmental tasks, which

Unfortunately, the SDS was neither intellectually nor psychologically ready to take on the educational system. The working–class whites seemed to be
the right group for the radical student's attention. This was clearly not revolutionary, but they were oppressed and the SDS with their optimistic view,
wanted to help. They organized in the slums where students would work alongside the residents to better understand what they were going through.
The problem with programs such as these is that most of the organizers were students who, when school started, would have to leave and attend college
(Unger 60). Students who returned to campuses after these summer programs no longer saw their campuses as safe. The University of California at
Berkeley saw the greatest impact from the mood set by returning students. Students began to protest the administrations control over activities. Many
students were passionate in the fight, however for some it was nothing but a diversion from school and boredom (Unger 68). Those few students, who

The SDS would fight for what it originally believed in, although several factors would add to its inevitable collapse. Many protests in the United States,

Jesus Villahermosa Thesis
After reading the essay written by Jesus Villahermosa I believe his thesis statement is "Given my extensive experience dealing with violence in the
workplace and at schools and colleges, I do not think professors and administrators, let alone students, should carry guns". In his second paragraph, he
lays out reason as to why he feels this way and shows that he can be considered an expert in firearm safety. Giving information into his background
reinforces his position and add to his argument against arming people on college campuses. Some may be surprised that he is against having armed
professors and students on campus because of his background. However, I am not surprised that he is strongly against having firearm toting professors,
administrators and students throughout campuses. He is properly trained, experienced with firearm safety and marksmanship which in turn gives him
great support to his argument. Villahermosa gave ample reasons to support his argument against carrying weapons on college campuses throughout his

He gave clear and abundant reasons to back up his argument and laid out many consequences for having a policy that would allow guns on campus.
With colleges already struggling financially a policy allowing guns would bring even more need for funding to cash strapped institutions. The training
required would be extensive and costly to have competent people carrying and ready to use their gun if needed. The risks involved in allowing guns on
campus seem to be extremely high and wildly unpredictable. It would make it harder for police to distinguish between the good guy and the bad guy
in a crisis. Schools and employees would be subjected to lawsuits and even imprisonment if innocent bystanders are shot instead of intended

U3 Advisors Expanded The Chula Vista Team
In 2015, U3 Advisors expanded the Chula Vista team by retaining the following four individuals to act in an advisory capacity on the project; Denise
Ducheny, retired California State Senator, and Clarissa Reyes Falcon of Falcon Consulting, to act as the local representatives for the institutional
recruitment process, and Eduardo Glandt, Dean of Engineering, Emeritus, University of Pennsylvania as an academic and institutional sounding board.
We also consulted with Mexican–American Architect Enrique Norten who has close ties to Chula Vista as well as high–level Mexican governmental and
higher education officials.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The City of Chula Vista, California has engaged U3 Advisors to help establish a University and Innovation Districtcampus on a 375–acre site in the
southeast corner of the City. Chula Vista, a growing city located approximately four miles north of the US/Mexico border and midpoint between the
downtowns of San Diego and Tijuana, envisions this campus as an educational destination and regional economic engine. U3 is guiding the effort to
identify potential partner institutions for this project and is exploring opportunities with higher education partners globally and domestically.
A new university campus could have a tremendous impact for not only the City of Chula Vista, but also the larger CaliBaja Megaregion, comprised of
San Diego and Imperial Counties to the north of the border and the five municipalities that make up Baja California, MX

I was recently told a story of The Dead Starfish Beach by a man who uttered to me "I want to change the world". I looked at him and thought how
can one man that wants to tell me a random story concerning a beach simply transform the world. But then I heard the beautiful story of The Dead
Starfish Beach. Thus to allow you to fully understand and relate to why this story had such an impact on my heart, I will be obliged to simply tell you

So there was a man who decided that he wanted to visit The Dead Starfish Beach to walk and clear his mind. This man lived as a dreadfully narrow

Pagan Culture on Campus: Pantheon (The Pagan Advocacy Club) In September of 2015, freshman Dakota Niswonger brought a new club proposal
before the Student Government Association (SGA) at Flagler College. He proposed the Pagan Advocacy Club, a club created "to allow on–campus
pagans of Flagler College a safe place to discuss their beliefs and practices, as well as educating the general public about the practices and beliefs of
various forms of paganism" (Pantheon Facebook Page, 2015). On October 26, 2015, Pantheon officially became an on–campus club. Currently,
Pantheon meets weekly to discuss various aspects of the Pagan faith, plan how they will proceed within the community in bringing about awareness of

No matter what grade you're in, campus visits in any form are beneficial. A camp at the university or college, a campus event, or your usual campus
visit are all great ways to experience the place you're considering calling home for your college years. My mom had some great advice in this process

Due to the multiple mass murders at three colleges, it has become necessary to find a way to protect the lives of people who go to college. Third,
McGrath states that he is not in favor of any student carrying weapons and is also against the idea of all teachers being armed. He is suggesting a
program be started where willing, able, and properly trained teachers volunteer to carry concealed weapons in the hope that they will never have

Medical Mission Trip: Lusaka, Zambia
Three weeks in Zambia significantly impacted my life and I will be forever grateful for the experiences and people I encountered. During my time
in Lusaka working at Beit Cure Hospital I was able to help the medical assistants and nurses clean and take vital signs of the patients in the children's
wing. It was during this time that I truly got to know the patients and their families. One of my favorite memories is that of my time spent with a little
boy named Promise and his father. Promise was an extremely shy three year old and he would not interact much with any of the staff or children in the
hospital. One day as I was talking with his father, Promise started acting silly by making faces at me. From that point on we became friends. Over
the next days Promise became more social and played and interacted more with the other children and staff. This was a rewarding experience for me
because I was able to help Promise come out of his shell. During my time at the hospital I was also able to observe Dr. Kachinga Sichyzia perform a
hydrocephalus surgery on a baby. This was my first time in the OR and an amazing opportunity to watch Dr. Sichyza work. Not only is Dr. Sichyza one
of only three neurosurgeons in Zambia but he writes, composes, and records music, has published two novels, and previously ran for president of the

This program is being presented in over 750 planetariums around the world as part of the "International Year of Astronomy". Basically, it has been four
hundred years since Galileo Galilei invented the telescope and planetariums are celebrating the invention with this presentation. This program was well

professor explained that the audience would be seeing a film about the history of the telescope and how two small pieces of glass changed the way

Speech On Freedom Of Speech
"Nothing about us without us," This was just one of many chants that echoed through the EMU ballroom as a group of student activist, called the UO
Student Collective, stormed the stage to disrupt President Schill's speech. This act of protest came from our rights as citizens to use our Freedom of
Speech. As a result of the incident, President Schill was not able to personally address his speech about what he was intending to do with the $50
million dollar donation, which none of which was going to any of the outlets the students were bringing up in the protest. Ultimately the students were
escorted off of the stage and all seemed to be well but as time went on the sanctions followed. Some students were accused of violating the "amplified
noise" policy and could be struck with disciplinary consequences. This seems to be a pitiful act by president Schill in an attempt to win back control

45 student leaders took the stage on October 6, 2017, they knew what they were getting themselves into and they believed they were standing up for

Gun control is a major topic in today's society and it is broken into many subcategories that all have different arguments and views. A few examples are
The Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns, more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths and more gun control leads to fewer
suicides in the United States. The gun control category I am focusing on in this essay is, should teachers and students be able to carry firearms on a
college campus. I chose this since I am currently attending college and this could have an effect directly on me or ASU. The idea of teachers and

According to the Harvard Political Review, a safe space regarding a college campus is defined as "protection from emotional discomfort." Although
being comfortable about yourself and your opinions is a good thing, having designated spaces where people can not voice their opinion because it
"could hurt someone" is not. In an interview with political and civil rights activists and former advisor to former president Barack Obama, Van Jones.
He was asked where he stood on the subject of "safe spaces" on college campuses. Van Jones responded with,

This is important because without this we are left with only what we ourselves have experienced, and limits our knowledge of different subjects.
Later in the article it goes on to say "If we truly want to change the world, we have to reach out for those with whom we profoundly disagree. We

Essay On Church Reflection
For my second church reflection, I attended NewSpring Church. I attended the eleven o'clock service at the Greenville campus, which was located
in the TD Convention Center. Since this was not the main campus, the sermon had to be watched on the screen. However, the music was live. This
service had a casual and contemporary feel. Although this church is Southern Baptist, it did not have the typical Baptist feel. Everything seemed to
be more casual, modern, and laid back, especially before and after the service. Interestingly, even though this service was very modern and
contemporary, there was still a great lack of diversity. Their staff, volunteers, band, and pastors were very diverse, but the people attending the church
were less diverse. The general demographic was made up of Caucasian families as well as many Caucasian teenagers and young adults. There were a
few African Americans (the worship leader wasAfrican American), but overall there was a lack of Hispanics, Asians, and African Americans. There
were certainly not very many older adults either.
Interestingly, in addition to the modern atmosphere, all of the people were very casually dressed. Most of the men had shorts and t–shirts on and the
women mostly had pants or shorts on as well. I do not think that there is anything wrong with this, and Newspring even states that they want you to
come however you are and however you are dressed, but this is an important observation that added to the culture of the church.

At points in history, both have been considered chattel. Change can take time. That is why we as students need to compel it in this time.
Students have always disrupted the status quo and compelling social and institutional change. The Black Space and Black Lives Matter movements are
compared by some to the Black Power Movement, and its proponents including the Student Non–violent Coordinating Committee, (SNCC).
SNCC's community organizing and activism made them foremost and successful contributors in the Civil Rights Movement and laid the groundwork
for progressive student movements on many campuses. Students demonstrated successfully in support of Civil Rights, opposition to the war in
Vietnam, institutional divestment of South Africa holdings, and establishing African American Studies academic departments and curriculums on

A Sorority Is A Subculture Or A Segment Of Society 's...
All around the world sororities are a subculture or "a segment of society's population" on most college campuses (Macionis 64). These sororities
have their own language, norms, beliefs, and values. Most college campuses have many charters or different sororities to choose from when a
student wants to pledge a sorority. On the Saint Francis University campus, there are seven sororities that a female student can belong to. Each
sorority has a different philanthropy which is a foundation that the sorority stands behind. For example Delta Phi Epsilon stands behind the
Educational Foundation, this foundation helps women get the education that they deserve. Sororities are known for creating a bond between
girls that last a life time. The sororities have their own language, they use words like pledge, bid, big, little, active, lavaliere, letters, and philanthropy.
A pledge is a person who accepts a bid, and a bid is an invitation to a specific chapter at their school (Nakagoshi 1). When a female student wants to
pledge a sorority they interview for a bid and the sorority decides if they want to have the new student pledge or not. If the pledge gets the bid then the
student gets a big, a big is an older girl who has been part of the sorority for a year of more, and the big is like a big sister they are supposed to care of
their "little" or new pledge (Nakagoshi 1). An active is a member of the sorority that has been part of the sorority for a few years. When a sister is

Although cycling is not the popular choice among people, there is no doubt that it offers more health benefits than other modes of transportations. An
assessment done by the American College Health Association reported that roughly 53% of students were not engaging in the daily recommended
amount of exercise (Bopp 359). To add to that, something that always comes to mind when thinking about college and health is the infamous Freshmen
15. In the midst of their busy lives with classes, friends, and extra–curricular activities, many students, particularly freshmen, are unable to find the time
to work out. EZ Bike is a great way to help students incorporate a little more physical activity in their day while obtaining utility to get to places faster.
A university survey shows that roughly one–third of USC students did not even exercise for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes any day of week
("Healthy). By using a bike to ride around campus, students could easily obtain 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day without even having to go to the
gym.
It is true that the implementation of a bike–share program will not completely solve the problem of college obesity or the Freshmen 15, but at the
least, it can increase levels of physical activity and promote fitness. By physically having EZ Bike and its stations on USC's campus, it serves as a
