In what ways foes your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of

3. Opening scene
• I wanted the opening scene of my music video to
be disorientating and will add aspects such as;
ambiguity and disorientation within my music
video.
• I did this because of that the conceptual idea of
my music video is that the main character is
influenced by drunken decisions and it is played
through his perspective.
• The light that is cast down the center of the
frame adds to the disorientating affect of the
music video.
• The setting that I put my character in is in his
bed, waking up and taking a sip of whiskey, this is
establishing the tone of the music video and sets
it up for the conceptual atmosphere presented in
the further video.
4. Setting/Location
• This shot establishes the setting and location of the
music video, as it presents iconography such as the red
car and the road.
• The reason I repeatedly used this shot was so that I
could introduce a feeling of being left behind to the
viewer, reflectant of the characters emotions.
• Also the colour red introduces a sense of unwariness
in my music video, this is presented in the frame due
to the colour of the car.
• I used this road instead of the road I presented in my
recce because I was not able to get to the ideal area
for this scene, as this was a back up are on which is
clear and empty for the most of the time.
5. Costumes and Props
• The guitar and the costume that my character is
wearing is meant to reflect and relate to my target
audience. The guitar shown in the video adds to the
conventions of rock that are present throughout the
video.
• Also the drum kit in the background also adds to the
blues rock genre conventions
6. Camerawork and editing
• The camerawork and editing in my music video attempted to
reflect the genre conventions of blues rock. For example, the
camerawork I tried to make the shots mostly close-ups as they
reflect the disorientation that my character experiences in this
video.
• The editing in my music video deliberately was used to emphasise
the conceptual ideas of my music video, for example, the red car
would appear in random places in a sequence. This dis-continuity
editing style that my video has influences a more abstract out look
on my video.
• Scenes on which I would use a long shot or a medium close up
were included in my video (image to the right) in order to
emphasise a feeling of being left, thus sympathizing with the male
character in my music video.
7. Style of my video
• I chose to mainly have a conceptual music video,
with performance and narrative aspects also
included within my video.
• This conceptual style of my video is shown within
the reoccurrence of themes which I have presented
in my music video. Such as the theme of being left,
this is emphasised through the car driving away
being repeated throughout the video. Also such
conceptual conventions are reflected within the
editing pace of my video, as it speeds up and then
slows down according to the song.
8. Story
• The story of my music video is following an argument
between two people. Following the argument the male
character walks out, thus ending the story. The handheld/
shaky cam is used in the scenes on which they are fighting
to reflect the frustrated feeling that the characters are
experiencing.
• The performance aspects also reflect the relationship of
my characters as they are not interacting, and the male
character has his back on the female character expressing
ignorance and a sour relationship.
9. genre
• The genre of blues rock is presented in my music video
through iconography used such as the guitar and drum
kit, clothing, cars and through the shots I chose to
include within my video.
• The guitar and the drum-kit are typical of the blues
rock genre, having performance based music videos is
also a convention of blues rock music videos, which is
why I included performance in my video.
• The close ups on the guitar string presented on the
image to the right is also reflectant of the genre of blues
rock, as musical instruments (such as the guitar) would
become the main device relating back to the genre.
10. How the artist is portrayed
My music video is a part of the blues
rock genre, this narrowed how I was
going to choose to portray the artist. As
on the picture to the right, the artist is
presented as conforming to the genre
conventions of blues rock. For example,
the drummer is head banging and the
guitarist is also headbanging. This also
reaches out to my target audience as
this includes teens and young adults.
Their costume also depicts genre
conventions of blues rock as they are
dressing in skinny jeans and a top. This
also relates my artist to the target
audience as this way of dressing is
common amongst the age group my
video is targeting.
