Scope of work – Basic research, conceptualization, concept generation, concept
3d modeling, concept development and detailing, engineering development,
prototyping, focus group testing, manufacturer interaction and support,
manufacturing data generation.
2. Design & Development of wi-fi Internet Phone
Client’s company, a new venture were interested in developing an internet
telephony product. Since the product comes under consumer electronics segment,
they needed the aesthetics of product to talk present day consumer electronics
language. Generally, for a consumer electronic product, you need to do extensive
research about trends, user’s likings and disliking etc.. This research can be
extrapolated to design products meant for future. I mean a product matching
future trends. Since CLIENT had a limited budget, being a start up, we reduced
complex research part by analyzing, understanding present consumer electronics
products, trends etc… which has consumed less time, money but with sufficient
input.
Client’s brief – Client was looking for some simplistic design on the same lines of
IPOD. One of the important constraint was that the product should visually appear
slimmer.
Constraints – Contemporary aesthetics is the primary objective. Cost of the product,
easy to assemble, disassemble, easy for maintenance, size of the product, easy to
pack, transport, usability, enhanced functionality, branding space, easy to install, etc…

3. Research
Studying various mobile phones and personal interaction products have helped us to
confine concept direction, ways to derive simplicity in form, required interaction for the
product, desired textures, usability features etc…
Since this product will be predominantly used inside home, we concentrated less on
present fashion trends.
We did extensive research to understand product assembling, product installation,
functionality, maintenance etc..

6. Prototype and testing
MDF model – after painting
Client was pleased, that we could
achieve his goal with simple aesthetics.
Rapid prototype
The scroll part in the model was moved
to the backside (from usability point of
view), which helped in reducing overall
thickness of the product. The location
of audio jacks were also worked from
I.D and Usability point of view to save
space and make it more compact.
