WHAT IS DEPRESSION
 Depression is a state of
low mood and aversion to
activity that can affect a
person's thoughts,
behaviour , feelings
and sense of well-being.
REASONS FOR DEPRESSION
ACADEMIC STRESS
Youths are under an enormous amount
Of pressure to succeed academically ,
Not being academically inclined can
cause a youth to be depressed . Doing
poorly in college or school can really
affect. They feel like they aren’t worth
anything , This is a big cause of youth nd
teen depression
LOVERIA
In Youths , romantic entanglement
become a much more prominent and
influential part of life. From breakups to
unrequited affection, there are a
plethora of ways in which budding love
lives can cause teens and youth to
Become depressed.
TRAUMATIC EVENTS
The death of a loved one, instances of
Abuse, sexual assault or other traumatic
events can have a very real impact on
anyone, causing them to become
depressed or overly anxious. Traumatic
event affects survivors, friends and
relatives of victim who have been
involved.
FINANCIAL STRUGGLE
You may not be a breadwinner in your
household or responsible for balancing
the budget, but that doesn’t mean that
you’re unaffected by a financial situation
within the family. Knowing that money is
tight can be a very upsetting situation,
especially if you’re worried about the
possibility of losing your home or the
standard of living you’re accustomed to.

TYPES OF DEPRESSION
Major Depression is manifested by a combination of symptoms
that interfere with the ability to work, study, sleep, eat, and enjoy
once pleasurable activities. Such a disabling episode of depression
may last over to 6 months.
Dysthymia involves long-term, chronic symptoms that do not
disable, but keep one from functioning well or from feeling good.
This type of depression is not so strong as major depression but
they last upon 2 years.
Bipolar disorder also known as manic depression, is
characterized by cycling mood changes. Episodes of depression
alternate with manic episodes, which can include impulsive
behaviour, hyperactivity, rapid speech, and little to no sleep.
Typically, the switch from one mood extreme to the other is
gradual, with each manic or depressive episode lasting for at
least several weeks or years
CONSEQUENCES OF
DEPRESSION
 Suicide. Having thoughts of death and suicide are symptoms of
depression. If depression is left untreated, these thoughts can get
worse. Sometimes, you or a friend might feel like suicide is the
only way out, the only way to escape the pain
 Addiction. Often, to alleviate the symptoms, people turn to self-medicating
with substances. The truth is that drugs and alcohol
not only worsen symptoms, but they can also increase the
chances that you get addicted to these substances. Combining
drugs and alcohol with depression is a dangerous mix, which can
increase the risk for suicide and further your depression.
 Self-injury. Another way some people try to cope with depression
is by self-injuring or inflicting pain upon themselves with methods
like cutting or burning.
 Academic performance. depression can make it very difficult to
go to class and complete assignments. That’s because depression
diminishes one’s ability to concentrate, remember things and
make decisions.
 Health Concerns. Depression can become an unhealthy cycle.
People with depression need to take good care of themselves to
feel better, but because of the symptoms, they are unable to sleep
(or sleep too much), don’t want to eat and have no interest in
exercise. Because they are unable or unwilling to do these things,
the depression worsens and health suffers.
ROAD TO RECOVERY
 Turn to trusted friends and family members. Share what
you’re going through with the people you love and trust, face
to face if possible. The people you talk to don’t have to be able
to fix you; they just need to be good listeners.
 Try to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel
like it. Often when you’re depressed, it feels more comfortable
to retreat into your shell, but being around other people will
make you feel less depressed.
 Join a support group for depression. Being with others dealing
with depression can go a long way in reducing your sense of
isolation. You can also encourage each other, give and receive
advice on how to cope, and share your experiences.
 Socialize with positive people. Notice how people who always
look on the bright side deal with challenges, even minor ones, like
not being able to find a parking space. Then consider how you
would react in the same situation. Even if you have to pretend, try
to adopt their optimism and persistence in the face of difficulty.
 Aim for proper hours of sleep. Depression typically involves
sleep problems. Whether you’re sleeping too little or too much,
your mood suffers. Get on a better sleep schedule by learning
healthy sleep habits.
CONCLUSION
Youth Depression is not a secret and will not go away, it is very
Imp. That cries to our friend do not get ignored.
Now that we are aware with the disease let us not forget the
People who suffers from it, If you see someone whom you think
might be depressed reach out a friendly hand.
If you’re unsure about the problem getting more serious help
The person find the needed attention they are lacking in it . No
One need to be left alone to battle depression. Recognise the
Signs & symptoms and you can make a difference in someones
Life.
