Flame arrestors, (also spelled flame arrester), are a critical safety devices and a
component in the safe operation of vapor control systems. Flame arrestors are
passive devices with no moving parts. They prevent the propagation of flame from
the exposed side of the unit to the protected side by the use of metal matrix
creating a torturous path called a flame cell or element. All flame arrestors
operate on the same principle: removing heat from the flame as it attempts to
travel through narrow passages with walls of metal or other heat-conductive
material.
阻火器(也是火焰阻火器)是蒸汽控制系统的安全运行的一个关键的安全装置和组成部分。阻
火器是无运动部件的无源设备。通过使用金属基质,有效的防止火焰传播到受保护侧,该金属

Generally, a flame arrestor is an advanced technology, which is fitted to an
opening enclosure that permits gases or vapors to flow under normal operating
conditions. These are really helpful to avoid fire or any explosion, accident at your
workplace. This is because when a flammable gas mixed with air or oxygen, there
is the huge possibility of an explosion, which may cause a serious damage.
通俗的讲,阻火器有点高科技,被安装在任何输送流动的气体或液体的设备端口。这个阻火器
对于工作环境中,意外发生的火灾和爆炸的预防作用非常好。由于它能有效的过滤掉明火,否

To avoid such problem Flame Arrestor was invented. Its-main function is to
prevent a flame entering or leaving a pipe. In the absence of this product, your
workplace is in heavy risk of catastrophic damage to equipment, loss of
production, the risk of the life of the operator and potentially large litigation costs.
为了减少火灾和爆炸,人们发明了阻火器。主要作用就是阻止火焰进出管道。如果你的工作环

HOW FLAME ARRESTORS WORK?
阻火器如何工作?
Flame arrestors are passive devices with no moving parts. They prevent the
propagation of flame from the exposed side of the unit to the protected side by the
use of wound crimped metal ribbon type flame cell element. This construction
produces a matrix of uniform openings that are carefully constructed to quench
the flame by absorbing the heat of the flame. This provides an extinguishing
barrier to the ignited vapour mixture.
阻火器本身不需要外在动力源,且没有活动件。阻火原理是让火焰穿过卷曲盘绕的金属网,该
结构孔隙均与分布,有效的吸收火焰中的热量,从而熄灭明火。相当于为燃烧的蒸汽混合气设
立了一道安全防护网。
Under normal operating conditions the flame arrestor permits a relatively free flow
of gas or vapour through the piping system. If the mixture is ignited and the flame
begins to travel back through the piping, the arrestor will prohibit the flame from
moving back to the gas source.
通常情况下,管道系统中的阻火器中可以自由通过气体和液体。如果混合其中产生火花,阻火
器就会成为整个管道系统的救星,有效的阻止火花四处蔓延,造成巨大损失。
In-line flame arrestors have specifically designed heat transfer characteristics for
slow moving flames and low to medium pressure fronts (low to medium pressure
deflagration). But flames moving at higher velocity and carrying higher pressure
fronts (high pressure deflagration and detonations) can pass through a standard
in-line flame arrestor. That is why it is critical that Piping Exposed side Protected
side Flame arrestor element absorbs and quenches flame front Flame stabilised on
arrestor element the proper flame arrestor be installed to meet the requirements
of both the application, operating conditions and the flame state to which the
arrestor will be exposed.
管内阻火器设计式就充分的考虑到了中低压管道中发生的火焰缓慢前行式热传导性能。同时对
于高压造成的火焰高速蔓延,应采用符合相应标准的管内阻火器。这就是为什么我们建议,针
对不同的行业和工况条件,以及火焰情况,来选择合适的阻火器从而有效的吸收火焰热量,达
到阻燃阻爆的作用。
What is MESG (Maximum Experimental Safe Gap) ?
最大实验安全间隙是?
Measurement of the maximum gap between two equatorial flanges on a metal
sphere that will prevent a flame from being transmitted from the sphere to the
surrounding flammable mixture. MESG is dependent on gas composition.
最大实验安全间隙就是指在规定的实验条件下,一个壳体充有一定浓度的被实验气体与空气的
混合物,点燃后,通过一定长度的结合面,均不能引燃壳体爆炸性气体混合物的外壳结合面之
间的最大间隙。最大安全间隙根据不通气体成分不同而不同。
What about the SELECTION CRITERIA?
阻火器选择的一般要求?
Flame propagation poses significant dangers to systems and personnel in
industries worldwide. Careful consideration must be taken to determine whether
to use a Flame Arrestor or a Detonation Flame Arrestor.
火灾损失惨重,对全世界工业系统和人员,都要谨慎处理。应根据实际情况选择合适的阻火器
或是防爆轰阻火器。
There are 3 basic determinations when evaluating the intended application:
选择那种,有 3 个基本决定因素:
First, end-of-line devices are designed mainly to stop atmospheric deflagrations.
The selection of in-line flame arrestors depends on the distance between the
identified ignition source.determine the location of all potential ignition sources
(i.e. flare, vacuum pump, blower, burner, lightning strike, static discharge, etc).
首先,管端阻火器设计初衷是为了防止发生大气爆燃。管内阻火器的选用取决于各个潜在火源
点之间的距离(如:火炬,真空泵,鼓风机,燃烧器,易遭受雷击处和容易产生静电放电现象
的位置)
Secondly the explosive atmosphere should be checked in order to classify the
explosive gas according to MESG.
其次要明确易爆气体工况,从而根据易爆气体确定最大安全间隙参数。
In the end, application limits have to be considered, such as, operating
temperature, operating pressure as well as concentration of oxygen.
最后还要考虑到适用范围因素,如,工作温度,工作压力和氧浓度。
All of these variables affect the performance of the flame arrestor and can also
affect the dynamics of flame propagation.
所有这些因素都影响阻火器的选择,从而影响着火焰传播。

Flame arrestors needs to be used in all branches where burnable liquids and gases
are stored and transported.

End-of-line devices are used for storing of pressure-less liquids, inline devices for
pipe transportation systems.

for the protection of storage systems or liquids.

Is it flame arrester or flame arrestor?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary there is no 'correct' spelling as both versions are
valid. Within the deflagration and detonation research and manufacturing community the
spelling 'arrester' is more prevalent, although according to Google the spelling 'arrestor' is
the more commonly used search term.
