Comparison Of Love In The Blinding Of Truth, And The...
Shakespeare stated, "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none." In all three of the myths I use love
was shown in one way or another. Pandora's Box, The Blinding of Truth, and The Mirror Myth were
similar because when they were in a bad situation, they had love and trust in their hearts, but there
was different kinds of love.
In the myth Pandora's Box a woman named Hermes gave Pandora a box, and told her not to open it.
She opens it out of curiosity when her husband Epimetheus is asleep. A multitude of brown winged
creatures fly out. She accidentally lets out all of the evil in the world. Epimetheus quickly closes the
box, but Pandora hears whispering. She opens the box one more time and finds hope in the form of a
white moth. When hope was let out, the fighting stopped and good was restored back into the world.
All of the myths have something bad happening in the beginning, and in this case it is Pandora
opening the box. Epimetheus and Pandora love each other unconditionally like husband and wife
should. The god relied Pandora to keep the box closed, but she betrayed their trust out of curiosity.

In The Mirror Myth, a little girl's mother died. Before she took her last breath, she gave her daughter
a mirror that had great sentimental value. The father remarried and the girl's stepmother hated her.
Sometimes, the girl would sit in the corner and look into the mirror. Once her stepmom saw her
whispering to herself and thought she was doing witchcraft. She went to her husband and told him
what she saw. He confronted his daughter, but she explained what was happening, and he believed
her. The stepmother was embarrassed, but she and her step daughter still made up in the end. The
girl's mother died, but that made for a new mother–daughter relationship with her stepmom. Now
the family trusted each other and there was love between

Sleeping Love And Maleficent: Movie Comparison
Comparison of the character dimensions between the 1959 Disney classic Sleeping Beauty and the
2014 remake Maleficent shows that the main differences between both movies are that of
Maleficent. The 2014 movie provides insight into her motives and promotes the expansion of her
character to blur the lines between the stereotypes of good and evil. The Fairies also change
dramatically to further highlight these differences. This is almost a parallel shift as the characters
make complete changes in both roles and personality.
In Maleficent the viewers are given a backstory of the main characters King Stefan and Maleficent.
It is through these backstories that we, as the audience, understand the reasoning and behind their
actions. Maleficent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The differences between her character in Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent are polar opposites. She is
given a kingdom with subjects who love her but she does not rule over them until her heart is broken
and she casts the curse.
The curse in Sleeping Beauty is cast on Aurora because Maleficent is jealous she did not get invited
to the celebration. The curse in Maleficent is actually upon King Stefan as Maleficent is heartbroken
because he swore to her that he loved her. The motive behind it has changed and that is why the
wording of the curse is changed. In Sleeping Beauty Aurora is cursed to die, it is the good fairy
Merryweather that alters the curse to leave Aurora in a 'Deathlike Sleep'. In Maleficent it is the
witch herself that changes her own curse when Stefan begs her to have mercy.
In the original Sleeping Beauty there is a huge emphasis on Prince Philip being the true loves kiss
that will break the curse. Prince Philip is Aurora's true love and it is only through his kiss that she
will wake. Whereas in Maleficent Aurora still stays asleep even after her 'true love kiss' from Prince
Philip. Maleficent, after proclaiming her love for the child, leans down and kisses Aurora's forehead,
this is when Aurora wakes and it is shown the depth and trueness of the love that Maleficent shows
Aurora. By changing that scene in Maleficent it takes Prince

Comparison Between 'Because He Loves Her And Girl Afraid'
The poem "Because He loves Her", by Emily Dickinson, and the song "Girl Afraid" by The Smiths
share a common topic: relationship dynamics. They discuss two different couples and show both
ends of the spectrum. In Dickinson's poem, the two are in love and the man treats his love
exceptionally well. In "Girl Afraid", the couple is in a vastly different situation. They seem listless
and completely lacking in love or feelings of intimacy. Emily Dickinson's poem seems to be from an
outsider's perspective. "We will pry and see if she is fair" gives the impression that perhaps the
narrator deems the man's paramour maybe lacking, or maybe the narrator is jealous (Dickinson 2).
This line sets the tone of the rest of the poem as a possibly bitter narrator grows to grudgingly admit
that the woman mentioned is beyond suitable. Then there is "That we are so far behind– / Her

However, the two stay together despite their issues and their mutual cry of "I'll never make that
mistake again". Emily Dickinson's "Because He loves Her" has a thriving relationship in
comparison, and the misery is that of the narrator's. In the song, the girl laments that her boyfriend
doesn't notice her despite her attempts to garner his attention. In contrast, "Not hoping for his notice
vast / But nearer to adore" means that the woman in the poem does not have to try to get her beau's
attention, and that he just adores her (Dickinson 9–10). The poem and the song both delve into the
dynamics between a romantically involved pair, and seem to have three characters. In "Because He
loves Her", the three characters are the woman, the man, and the jealous narrator. In "Girl Afraid",
the three characters are the girl, the boy, and the person they seem to be complaining to. This leads
to the ideas of both the poem and the song, and how they have similar tones, and the importance of

Sonnet 130 and My Ugly Love Contrast and Comparison Essay
Sonnet 130 and My Ugly Love Contrast and Comparison Shakespeare's sonnet 130, "My mistress'
eyes are nothing like the sun" and Pablo Neruda's "My ugly love" are popularly known to describe
beauty in a way hardly anyone would write: through the truth. It's a common fact that modern lovers
and poets speak or write of their beloved with what they and the audience would like to hear, with
kind and breathtaking words and verses. Yet, Shakespeare and Neruda, honest men as they both
were, chose to write about what love truly is, it matters most what's on the inside rather than the
outside. The theme of true beauty and love are found through Shakespeare and Neruda's uses of
imagery, structure, and tone. The imagery portrayed in both ... Show more content on

In like manner, the last verse in Neruda's sonnet, "My love: I love you for clarity, your dark" could
be interpreted to mean that the speaker loves his beloved to continue being a mystery for him in so
that he could find more beautiful qualities about her by focusing on her unattractive qualities first.
Similarly, Shakespeare's last couplet, "And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare as any she belied
with false compare" display's the speaker's love for what is real rather than how his beloved ought to
be. In brief, the imagery plays a huge part within both sonnets because it can give readers insight as
to how the speakers think. Shakespeare and Neruda's poem are obviously known to be sonnets,
however they don't both share the same structure; Shakespeare's is of course a Shakespearean sonnet
containing fourteen lines and has a particular rhyme scheme (ababcdcdefefgg), but Neruda's sonnet
doesn't follow Shakespeare's or the traditional Italian sonnet. Rather, Neruda's sonnet does indeed
contain fourteen lines, but most follows the free verse sonnet structure, since there is no rhyme
scheme. Yet, likewise, both sonnets do present a problem in the first verses and then develop
towards a solution. In the following, on Neruda's lines, "My ugly...My beauty...Ugly:...Beauty:.." the
speaker starts acknowledging his beloved that he is proud she is his for him to say "my", but as the

Comparison Of I Love Lucy And The Simpsons
A lot has changed in the years of TV, but in terms of sitcoms between the two shows I love Lucy and
the Simpson there has been a lot of change. I love Lucy is an American television sitcom that was
made in 1951 and ended in 1957. I love Lucy was an old modern television showed that was in
black and white, the picture was old and not as advanced as television today. The Simpsons is an
American animated sitcom started in 1989 and is still showing as of today. The Simpsons is a more
colorful and also animated TV show. The picture is better and it got better as the years went on. I
don't think anything has changed in terms the focus of comedy. The focus of comedy has always
been current events, things that have happened in the past and the standards

A Comparison Between The Way to Rainy Mountain and Love...
In the novels Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich and The Way to Rainy Mountain by N. Scott
Momaday, the reader gains views of Native American culture, both past and present, through two
disparate means of delivery. Both authors provide immensely rich portrayals through varying
literary devices in efforts to bring about a better understanding of problems contemporary Native
Americans face, especially regarding their own self–identity.
The story of Love Medicine revolves around a central character, June Kashpaw, and the many
threads of relationships surrounding her, both near the time of her death, and in what has gone on
before. The novel is an exploration of a family web that June was a key component of. Her character

Complications of plot are sparse, but are evident in an episodic fashion, as each small episode has its
own complexion and related complication that normally resolved within itself. In this regard of
episodic plots, the technique is similar to Love Medicine.
Erdrich appears to have a series of plots, or "plots within plots" in Love Medicine, At times, it is
difficult to anticipate where a plot exists until it becomes apparent in its crisis resolution. Again,
much like Momaday's work, the plots are episodic––the different stories are interconnected and feed
into one another, but are capable of standing alone withy their own plots. Erdrich makes heavy use
of the characters themselves to advance the plot for each episode, and in inter–relation between each
episode., whereas Momaday relies more on past story as a guide to present context.
Characterization is the strength of Love Medicine. The humorous, but tragic, exploits of eccentric
characters are extremely vivid in her story, and force a constant chnage of viewpoint for the reader
as more aspects of characters are revealed. The characters in this novel are a woven pattern of
intricacy possibly far surpassing the reader's ability, and especially surpassing the characters
themselves. This may be by design, as those things unresolved and disjointed by the end of the story
can promote an incomplete and unsettled set of emotions

Essay on A Comparison of Neuromancer and We So Seldom Look...
Considering that there are many different levels of realism, I have chosen to focus on Neuromancer
by William Gibson and We so Seldom Look on Love by Barbara Gowdy. The stories explore the
boundaries of realism by using similar elements. The most obvious one is the margin between life
and death, which these two stories address. The main characters separate themselves from society's
idealistic realism. Nevertheless, where is their identity placed when living in a different realism?
How does one understand the reality of a person with a fragmented mind?
"`Linda, who told you? Who told you I would come? Who?'" (Gibson, 242)
In the passage above, case enters another reality in which he is able to interact wit the dead. A
duality forms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quotation above proves this, as she explains the process of her actions. The girl is able to clarify
on the cadaver's actions to make it seem like it acts with her. Her pushing on the male's chest while
in a sexual act does this.
The characters in these two texts dislodge themselves from society's perspective of realism. In
Gibson's Neuromancer, Case is involved in a world where he is able to interact with the dead. The
following excerpt is an example of Case entering into another world but of a contrasting realism.
"There were four sockets beneath the screen, but only one would accept the Hitachi adaptor.
He jacked in.
Nothing. Gray void.
No matrix. No grid. No cyberspace.
The deck was gone. His fingers were ...
And on the far rim of consciousness, a scurrying, a fleeting impression of something rushing toward
him, across leagues of black mirror. ...
There seemed to be a city, beyond the curve of the beach, but it was far away." (Gibson, 233)
This is a reality for him since he is able to input himself into an intricate system where are the
different worlds of realism are colliding and anything is possible. When he inputs himself, he leaves
behind the world that contains the "real" information, and enters into a world where there are
indefinite layers of the real. In Gowdy's We So Seldom Look on Love, the

Sonnet 14 And True Love Comparison Essay
When it comes to love, each person seems to have a differing opinion and definition on what
constitutes genuine love. Two of these interpretations come from Elizabeth Barrett Browning's
"Sonnet 14" and the song "Superficial Love" by Ruth Berhe. To serve as a bit of a refresher, within
the sonnet, Browning focuses on how love can never dwindle when it does not rely on temporal
reasons to stay alive. As for the song, Berhe states her desire to have something that is more than
just a superficial love with her lover. Given that both writers draw attention towards the subject of
love, it makes it easier for individuals to quickly begin the process of analyzing and comparing both
works. After all, we are constantly and instantaneously making ... Show more content on

The first one that is mentioned deals with the way she is treated:
'Cause I'm so done, not being your number one
And if you wanna keep me, then you better treat me
Like a damn princess, make that an empress (12–14)
Not only does this quote demonstrate that Berhe feels as though she is not being placed as a priority
in her lover's eyes, but it also shows how she feels like she isn't being treated in the manner that she
deserves. Another conflict that is revealed places the attention on Berhe's longing for a genuine
connection, one that isn't just felt physically, but also "in [her] heart and on [her] mind" (34). So,
even though she definitely feels as though there is something there, she wants this bond to go
beyond what is physical. Moving on, the other major difference is the tone of the information.
Simply by reading "Sonnet 14", readers can pick up on Browning's attitude which is one of
frustration. Through the constant repetition of her yearning to be loved just for love, we detect her
exasperation from having to repeat herself to get the point across in order to demonstrate how
important it is to her. On the other hand, Berhe's song has more of a cautionary tone, as she warns
her love to take certain steps to guarantee that their love is not superficial. If it is, she does not want
any part of it: "'Cause I'm not perfect, I'm flawed / And if you don't like that, get

A Comparison Of Love In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Is love a special connection or is it something more physical? Throughout many centuries the
perspective of love has always revolved around an association that the two people have in common.
William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, we see how love is diverse; Romeo talked about Rosaline.
He mentioned that he was very depressed and even offered her money to marry him. Today, love is a
crave, something that people do not take much time to think on. To elaborate, love brings a
combination of emotions. This was shown by Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet, when Romeo is in
love with Rosaline but once he sees Juliet, he falls for her. In the text it states, "What a fool he was
to think he had been in love with Rosaline! He must have been blind. He

Comparison Of Authority Figures In Romeo And Juliet And...
Comparison of Authority Figures in Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Love Stoppard's satirical
movie, Shakespeare in Love, is a play on Shakespeare's tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet.
Stoppard places Shakespeare himself into a relationship with Viola De Lesseps, that resembles the
relationship between Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard incorporates countless parallels into the film from
Shakespeare's love story, including the character development of major authority figures. The prince
and the queen, Capulet and Viola's father, and the Friar and the Priest are all figures of authority and
parallel between the two works; Stoppard gave his cast similarities to Shakespeare's characters, but
they also varied in some aspects. Stoppard's decision to both keep some and change some character
attributes of these authority figures helps contribute and develop the ending of the movie, just as
Shakespeare's character developments contributed to the outcome of his plays. In Romeo and Juliet,
the supreme authority is the Prince; he is the governing individual in Verona, Italy where the setting
takes place, just as Queen Elizabeth is shown as the highest authority in England in Shakespeare in
Love. One key difference between these leaders in the stories is that the Prince is mostly concerned
with keeping the peace, while the Queen also appreciates and respects Viola's risk and is excited by
Viola and her relationship with Shakespeare. The Queen is exhilarated by the whole ordeal. She

evaluate the situation around it. Do they have the right chemistry? Well, if a person wants a family
and the other doesn't, then no. If one likes to camp and so does the other, then yes. There is only
important question love must answer; does it change when times do? Some would say of course

In this he rights of a beautiful and powerful love that burns in him like a flame. With his silky

The pursuit of an ideal and perfect love and the way that this endeavor shapes human relationships

written respectively by Nicholas Sparks and Audrey Niffenegger. The suggestion of, not only desire
for an ideal love but also a deep–seated need for this kind of love is something that becomes very

The setting of the home is used throughout both texts. This evokes a sense of comfort and
homeliness in the reader, therefore making them proportionally more sympathetic towards the
relationships of both the central couples in question and allows them to interrelate the situations in
their own lives. Noah's 1946 plantation home is one that is full of life. His home is a refuge that is
laden with memories of Allie. In particular, 'a picture of [Allie's] dreams' is located in the central
location of the house, 'see desire in . . . every stroke' symbolizes the ever–changing nature of their
relationship, just as Allie was 'adding to it every day, changing it as our relationship changed'. Much
like Allie's painting, Henry and Clare's house in Chicago mirrors their married life, marked by ups
and downs. It has seen their characters and relationships develop, at times being a safe haven where
the house 'envelops us, watches us, contemplates us' as though it were a guardian. The house,
however, also sees Henry's frequent disappearances and Clare's endless longing, a 'love intensified
by absence'. It 'watches' the many arguments, Clare's multiple miscarriages, and eventually Henry's
death, morphing and altering with each new event. Through the setting of the nursing home, Sparks
is able to evoke the emotions of longing, distress, and pity in the reader. It is a place of sadness and
loss, with the constant reminder of an entire life, not remembered, 'she would stare at forgotten
offspring, hold paintbrushes that inspired nothing, and read love letters that brought back no joy.'
This loss symbolizes the unpredictable way is which a love and a relationship can change so
dramatically so quickly. Sparks is able to embed the idea that once a deep and ideal love is found, it
may not remain so pristine and complete after a time. This is

Comparison Essay: Love Is Like A Roller Coaster
Love is Like a Roller Coaster
Riding a roller coaster has its ups and downs. In comparison, loving someone has some of the same
characteristics. When in love with someone, one might feel a wide range of emotions, such as anger,
calmness, anxiety, tenderness, jealousy, or even despair. A roller coaster can be much compared to
love, in that when you first get on the ride, you may feel many of the same emotions. For example,
when someone first falls in love with someone there's this anxiety of knowing whether or not, that
the person you love feels the same way towards you. This can be compared to going up the hill at
the beginning of the ride. When you're going up hearing the tracks clank as the coaster up and
anxious feeling of not knowing what's the at the bottom of the hill, and the excitement it brings.
Both roller coasters and being in love have their ups and downs. When you love someone, you
would do anything for them. You could bring them on amazing dates and buy them the greatest gifts
you could afford, which would definitely make things go uphill. Then, there is the "down" side.
Loving someone can also lead to problems such as trust issues, acceptance, and honesty. Also, ...

A Comparison Of Love In Shakespeare's Eleanor And Park
What is the perfect love story and does it exist? Not in the lives of Romeo and Juliet nor in the lives

imperfect examples of what love is. In these works, I will be examining the differences and
similarities between Socio–economic status, the ideal person and the family influence in both works,
as well as the modern and classical approaches to love. In the beginning of Eleanor and Park they
both read Romeo and Juliet and discover their similarities and differences with these characters.
The economic status in the novel and play differs, when we see that in Eleanor and Park where
Eleanor's home life is extremely difficult. Eleanor Douglas, her mother Sabrina, her abusive and

Richie is violent and abusive. Eleanor doesn't feel that she is safe or welcomed in her own home. On

It is universally acknowledged that the memories of a first love linger throughout a lifetime because
they are so powerful and equally unforgettable. As a result of the experiences of a first love,
breaking up can be one of the most devastating feelings in the world. In Jane Austen's last book

about Anne and Captain Wentworth is that they did not fall out of love initially or even 8 years later.

Wentworth causing her "to seek comfort of cool air for her flushed cheeks" (46). This is significant
because this is the first time in several years that a Wentworth last name has even been referenced.
In response, Anne's cheeks "flush" and she seeks "comfort" in the cold because Captain Wentworth
makes her hot and uncomfortable. Although the person being referenced is not, in fact, Captain
Wentworth but his brother, Anne, after all these years, is still affected by the mention of the
Wentworth name. Like with any first lover, seeing them in public or hearing their name can cause an
unexpected stir of emotion and intertwined memories. Because Anne never fell out of love with
Captain Wentworth and her love for him was merely hidden away and never resolved, having him in
her life again is extremely overwhelming for her.
When Captain Wentworth finally arrives in Uppercross, Anne is overcome with love and actively
tries to make sense of what has changed since she last saw him, often leading to confusion and
contradiction. Anne and her family plan to visit Captain Wentworth, however, Anne stays behind to

Comparison Of Battlefield And I Could Fall In Love
Poetry is a form of writing that can make a reader feel a collection of different emotions. Poetry has
evolved into songs and is used by many artists today to make the audience feel the message they are
trying to transmit. Nowadays, poetry and song lyrics are very similar as they are trying to convey
emotions and have an impact on their intended audience. The song, "Battlefield" by Lea Michele is
more poetic and artistic than the poem, "I Could Fall in Love" by Grace Hays, because of the use of
similes, extended metaphor, and end rhyme. Both the song, "Battlefield" and the poem, "I Could
Fall in Love," have the same theme throughout the writing. The theme of both pieces is frustration
in a relationship and how it is having an impact on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thought of one sentence continuing onto the next line creates a very specific tone and message
throughout the piece. Enjambment is used in the poem when it says, "I hope you know the effect /
that you are having on me" (Hays lines 31–32). There are several lines with enjambment in the
poem and this causes the piece of writing to have a certain flow and a different reading effect.
Another poetic device the poem uses is a very straight forward writing style. From the start of the
poem, the reader knows exactly what the author is feeling and the emotions that they speaker is
trying to convey. This is very important to the poem because there had to be something in the
writing that makes the reader want to keep reading. The article, "Is Poetry Dead," says, "These days,
poetry is institutionalized. Everyone can write it. But if you want a lot of people to read it, or at least
the Right Interested Persons, there are a few choked channels of Reputable Publications. Or you can
just spray it liberally onto the Internet and hope it sticks" (Petri 1). This quote really emphasizes that
poetry has to have something special about it that attracts people and keeps them interested. Another
poetic device used in the poem, "I Could Fall in Love," is alliteration. Although it is not used several
times, it is used when the author says "I get goose" (Hays line 18). Besides these three poetic
devices, there are not any others present in the poem which is why the song is more artistic and
poetic than the

A Comparison Of Beyond The Love Story And West Side Story
Beyond the love story People are always rewriting other people's stories – consciously or
unconsciously – cutting and trimming, pasting, rearranging, and adjusting to new times and
circumstances, sometimes adding truly creative elements and occasionally actually improving on the
original. The Tragicall Historye of Romeus and Juliet which was a narrative poem by Arthur Brooke
is considered to be William Shakespeare's base source for his famous play Romeo and Juliet
(Mabillard). West Side Story (1961) is a widely–acclaimed, melodramatic musical – a modern–day,

Essay on A Comparison of Love in Jane Eyre and Wide...
Love in Jane Eyre and Wide Sargasso Sea
In the passages presented below, both narrators are soliciting affection and love. For Jane, in Jane
Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, her mother figure, Aunt Reed, shows absolutely no affection towards her
niece. Coldly, Ms. Reed regards Jane only as a bothersome child she was left to raise. Similarly,
Antoinette, in Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea, is raised disregarded and unloved by her mother
Annette. Although shunned, Jane and Antoinette both have the passion and willingness to love.
However, it is the paths their lives took that characterizes the way they chose to deal with life's
uncertainties.

this frown and once I touched her forehead, trying to smooth it. But she pushed me away, not
roughly but calmly, coldly, without a word, as if she had decided once and for all that I was useless
to her. She wanted to sit with Pierre or walk where she pleased without being pestered, she wanted
peace and quiet. I was old enough to look after myself. 'Oh, let me alone,' she would say, 'let me
alone,' and after I knew that she talked aloud to herself I was a little afraid of her."
–Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys (p. 20)
As the first passage shows, Jane expresses to Ms. Reed, who is dying in her bed, that she had always
been willing to love her. However, her Aunt allowed her little, if any, room to express it. Bronte's
use of diction, words such as passionate (which she is), and vindictive (which she is not), helps
clarify Jane's emotions, and her Aunt's reaction to what she is so confidently revealing to her. Ms.
Reed remains emotionally cold as Jane embraces her "ice–cold and clammy hand." It is Jane's
passion that allows her to experience life to the fullest extent. At this point, when she wishes for
reconciliation, Jane realizes that her Aunt has not changed, rather that she has herself. She has
allowed herself to accept her Aunt's adamant unwillingness to love her: "living, she had ever hated
me– dying, she must hate

A Comparison of 'The Passionate Shepherd to his Love' and 'The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd'
In Elizabethan times poetry was a very important part of Elizabethan life. Elizabeth 1st adored plays
and poetry and was a major patron, meaning that in a way she encouraged sponsorship of the writers
and poets of her time, so that they were encourage to perform and write. These two poems are
examples of pastoral poetry, a form of poetry that deals with the lives of shepherds and shows a
contrast between the innocence and simplicity of rural life, compared with the artificiality of city
and court life. The pastoral dramas first appeared in the 15th and 16th century. "The Nymph's Reply

Both of these poets were admired writers of their time and their poems are still highly appreciated.
Marlowe and Ralegh knew each other and Ralegh's poem is a witty response to his friend's pastoral
verse.
In verse one of "The Passionate Shepherd to his Love", Christopher Marlowe gets straight to the
point by saying, "Come live with me". This shows just how eager the shepherd is and then there is a
pause where he goes on to say, "...and by my love". This is more of a gentle tone and softens what
has just been said. In the next line there are two uses of alliteration, "And we will all the pleasures
prove...", and the 'w's' and 'p's' add a persuasive definite feel to the verse. In the last two lines of this
stanza, Marlowe lists all the things the Nymph and the shepherd will do together, and by listing
them, he is making it seem as though there is an amazing variety of landscape to enjoy. These areas
he is listing are all dramatic, natural pleasures and have not been changed by man, nothing is
artificial. When it says, "...or steepy mountain yields", the shepherd is showing that there is an extra
sense of freedom and that together, the Nymph and himself will enjoy the natural beauties. The
Nymph's reply to Marlowe's poem is rather shocking. She stats by changing what the shepherd has
just said to what she thinks is reality. In the first line, "If all the world...", the

Comparison Of Penelope In The Odyssey, 'Penelope, And...
by Homer ,Odysseus, the ruler of Ithaca left behind his wife and son in order to fight in the Trojan
war. During his twenty year long adventure of returning home he encountered many obstacles which
then led to him being unfaithful to his wife, Penelope. Penelope on the other hand ,despite being
surrounded by suitors remained faithful to her husband. Penelope is the better spouse in the
relationship as she uses her devotion and cleverness to fend off suitors and wait for Odysseus'
return.
Penelope is devoted to her husband because she did not have an affair like Odysseus. " She certainly
must have warmed her husband's heart by doing this and by singing the praises of her lost
Odysseus," ( p. 646 2nd paragraph). Homer uses words that Penelope's feelings about the loss of
Odysseus, therefore proving her devotion to Odysseus. Odysseus on the other hand was carried
away by lust and he forgot about his own family. "After many seasons of feasting and other
pleasure, Odysseus and his men beg Circe to help them return home,"(p. 675). It was only after
odysseus's men begged him to leave that he gave going home another thought. the fact that odysseus
completely forgot about his home and family shows that he isn't very devoted to them.
Penelope's sly clever side is revealed with her astuteness in delaying tactics. As she plans ways to
get rid of the suitors, the clever notion of marrying again when she completes a shroud that she
plans to never complete buys her time: "So every day wove on the great loom, but every night by
torchlight I unwove" (pg. 697) She plans to weave a shroud during the day and then unweaves it
each night. This simple trick has bought her three years. Furthermore, she also holds an archery
contest in which the suitors will have to string Odysseus's bow and shoot through twelve axes: "You
found no justification for yourselves – none except your lust to marry me. Stand up then: we now
declare a contest for that prize" (pg. 699). Penelope's decision to marry whomever wins the archery
contest results from her awareness that only her husband can win it. Penelope never refuses to marry
outright. Instead, she puts off her decision and leads them on with promises that she will choose a

Comparison Of Scrubs, Friends, And Love
The TV sitcoms of Scrubs, Friends, and Love all evolve around single young adults. By comparing
the three, one can come to understand how love is shown through TV in the United States.
Throughout the episodes, it becomes apparent on why the couples are together. In Scrubs, it is easy
to see that Carla and Turk make each other happy. Dr. Perry Cox and Jordan are together because
that is where they are comfortable. In Friends, Monica and Richard are together because it makes
them happy. Ross and Rachel were bound to be together since the beginning. They are extremely
happy when they finally are. The same goes for Mickey and Gus in Love. The way that love is
portrayed through these shows is that people should be with someone who makes them happy. ...

In each show, there was some sort of sexual action between the characters. This is very common
now in TV shows and movies, as it "makes a good story." In all three episodes, it was implied that at
least one of the couples engaged in some sort of sexual activity. In Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Geller are
still attracted to each other. This helps show that one should always be attracted to the person who
they claim to love. There should also always be romance, as in Turk and Carla's case in Scrubs.
They engage in a sexual act, as does Gus and Mickey in Love. In Scrubs, it is apparent that work
comes first. As Turk and Carla are having issues, Turk still has to go to the hospital when he is
paged. However, throughout the episodes, it is apparent that love is about compromise. In Friends,
Ross was against tattoos, but was fine after Rachel got one. In Love, Mickey wasn't a big fan of
magic, but went to the castle with Gus anyways. Also, in Scrubs, Carla decides that the pressure to
be romantic shouldn't all be on Turk. It is one of the things that is observed throughout not just these
shows, but many shows that are on TV today. It does teach good lessons in some

Comparison Of Final Love Note And Louise Gluck's Mock Orange
The Importance of Language in Clare Rossini's Final Love Note and Louise Gluck's Mock Orange
Love is such an abstract concept for the human mind to figure out. Along with the love of a mother
for her child, there are many types of sensual love or brotherly love; friendship is frequently
described as a type of love, as well. This abstraction can also be distorted and made to fit into
categories that would normally be associated with negativity and abuse not "love." Think of why a
woman will continually go back to an abusive spouse with the irrational reason that "he loves me."

The word "wanton" is the first of three words that she uses in this poem that dramatically affect the
tone of the poem. The Oxford English Dictionary defines "wanton" as being unruly, rebellious, and
unmanageable. This definition is followed by another that has a relatively different meaning which
is to describe someone or something that is dainty, fastidious, and playful. To place these definitions
inside the poem, the reader can come out with two separate meanings to these first lines. One could
take the first, which would mean that this relationship is peaceful and manageable. It is not out of
control. By the second definition, however, the relationship is also not dainty, fastidious, or playful.
To apply these definitions to the surface meaning of the poem makes sense, because a tree could not
be playful or out of control. However, if a reader were to apply it to an intimate relationship, the
relationship seems to have lost its luster. Perhaps, the participants are no longer as exciting as they
once were. Rossini describes the tree's silence during the winter and continues with vivid imagery of
"the slugs ate the yellow hearts/ Right out of my lilies, while you, elm, died on" (lines 11–12). This
line gives an extremely emotional visualization of having your heart eaten out, figuratively, by
someone that you love.
Rossini's word choice in the next to last paragraph gives an even stronger impression that she is
using the tree as a

The Phenomenon of Love in Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest
We know from the very opening scene of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet's love will end in
tragedy. We may wonder why Miranda and Ferdinand in The Tempest do not end up with the
same fate as Romeo and Juliet. Both couples are from opposing political families. Both couples
are enraptured with their lovers. Why then does Romeo and Juliet end with their death's and the
Tempest end with Miranda and Ferdinand's marriage plan? In this paper I will argue that
according to Shakespeare reason needs to guide the souls of lovers to avoid tragedy and find
bliss. I will do this by examining and comparing William Shakespeare's plays; Romeo and Juliet ...

In both cases we can see the passions of love between the
lovers clouding their reason.
In both plays Shakespeare has a councillor, or mentor, for each couple. In Romeo and Juliet
this mentor is Friar Laurence and in The Tempest it is Prospero. Because of the nature of the
phenomenon of love, it seems Shakespeare feels that both young couples need this mentor as a
source of reason and advice to help guide them through their passions. Both mentors warn the
couples against letting passion guide their souls. Both mentors do seem genuinely concerned
with the pairing and the good of the lovers and those connected to them. Most importantly the
mentors try to act as reason for the lovers while the are caught up in desire. These mentors are
one way that reason ought to guide the souls of lovers.
Love ending in tragedy
The play in which love ends in tragedy is Romeo and Juliet. After Romeo and Juliet's first
meeting at the dinner, we see how driven by passion Romeo is. After leaving the Capulet's
home, he is so taken with Juliet he must return. He climbs the Capulet's wall and sneaks up to
Juliet's balcony. There the two lovers exchange their passionate declaration of love for each
other. We only hear a slight hesitation from Juliet when she says "[this contract tonight] is too
rash, too unadvised, too sudden" but she ignores this thought

'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' by Robert Browning and Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 by

The two Robert Browning poems, 'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' were written in the
infamous Victorian Era whereas the two Shakespearean Sonnets were written in the Elizabethan Era.

Likewise, the Victorian Era poet, Christina Rossetti credited with poems like 'I wish I could
remember,' a feminist poem that was written from a woman's point of view, a poem which used the
Italian Sonnet form. Christina Rossetti has used both the English Sonnet and the Italian Sonnet, and
this may be reflective of her background; she was born in England, but her father was Italian, so
Italy, its language and customs had a strong influence on her life and her creativeness.
Sonnet 18 doesn't really show any signs of the blazon, whereas Sonnet 130 shows strong signs of
the reversal of the blazon conventions. It turns the positives into hard–hitting real negatives, such as
how his mistress is not a goddess, but in fact a real woman. This brings a new light to the reader
about the poem, and the poem takes on a fresh perspective. The convention used is the similarly the
opposite of the blazon convention in Chapter Four of the Song of Solomon, a love poem from the
Bible, possibly the first recorded example of the blazon convention; its around 3,000 years old,
The two Browning poems, 'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' were written to convey to the
reader how women were treated in that era; as possession, as assets. Both of these poems can be
read from different points of view and they also both are what is
known as dramatic monologue. Both of the Robert Browning poems are written in the first person,

Children all around the world struggle with honoring and loving their parents and additionally other
people. Most children yearn to love, honor, and grow a relationship with their mother and father, but
one or both of their parents may be absent from their lives. The words love and honor is inscribed
throughout the bible and is displayed in the fifth of Ten Commandments. Love and honor are two
different words that have entirely two different meanings. When God asks for parents to be loved by
the children, His desires is for the child to show unconditional love. Whereas, honor is a way of

People who grow up fatherless have a hard time grasping the concept of life and ultimately God.
Usually children grow and have low self–worth and feels as if they are undeserving. In Prager's
article he points out how God commands people to do many things, but love is not one of them.
However, by God people are demanded to show love and honor others. To a woman, a father teaches
her how to be respected and feel like a queen. However without the proper nurturing from the father
the girl partakes in "the wrong men and to be promiscuous at an early age" (Prager). If a girl was
taught how to value herself by her father, then she would not involve herself in in ungodly things
and she would have learned to honor herself. Having no guidance or a father figure to set an
example causes a girl or woman not to distinguish right from wrong and she set her own standards.
Thus, a female cannot engage herself in attributes that are positive and honoring towards herself and
others. However, not all fatherless woman partake in the wrong doings that Prager mentions in his
article. While it is hard for people who grow up missing a parent, there are still ways for them to
learn to love, honor, and comfort others. Thus, it is import for other adults in children's lives to edify
them on honoring and loving others and

Teenage love is possible, but isn't very likely. Romeo and Juliet are teens in a play that are said to
experience true love and die for each other, but were they really ever in love? It is not possible for
teens to fall in love because teens fall in love too quickly, are very immature, and they are naive.
Love takes time. You do not fall in love when first meeting someone. The definition of love is "an
intense feeling of deep affection." In the story of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo falls in love with Juliet
the second he sees her. He also forgets about the woman he was just in love with when he said "..her
beauty is too rich to be touched, too heavenly for this earth!" (1.1.166). This means that Romeo

A Comparison Of Love In The Birthmark And Feathertop By...
Love is a mysterious feeling that varies for each relationship. Some relationships have a very deep
love, where the only thing that matters is personality. In these relationships, the people have a strong
emotional bond because it doesn't matter what visual flaws the person has; the connection keeps
them close. A surface deep relationship lacks this connection, and will not last. Once someone in a
surface deep relationship finds a simple flaw, they will not be able to overcome that flaw and the
relationship will deteriorate. Nathaniel Hawthorne had a beautiful wife named Sophia, and he loved
her dearly. In Hawthorne's first journal entry, he wrote that Sophia was the only sunshine in the

A Comparison Of Love In Great Expectations
The Lovely and the Loveless
People as well as writers often mistake infatuation with love. As a result, "love at first sight" is a
common trope in film and literature. Love is something that takes time and effort; people must
choose to put in the care and understanding into a relationship for it to be considered love. While the
two are similar, infatuation is attraction to someone based on their appearance; love is mutual
affection and the act of looking beyond someone's problems and flaws. In Great Expectations by
Charles Dickens, the main characters all indulge in infatuation, but never love. Because Pip and
Estella's lives are built off of appearances rather than character, they cannot form healthy
relationships and thus cannot experience true love.
Because Pip is obsessed with Estella's beauty and treats her as an object, he can never love her while
he is forcing himself to love someone who will only hurt him. To illustrate, when Pip is out walking
by the piers with Joe, he begins to think of Miss Havisham, an eccentric, miserable old woman, and
Estella, a beautiful but cold hearted girl, pondering to himself, "It was pleasant and quiet... whenever
I watched the vessels standing out to sea with their white sails spread, I somehow thought of Miss
Havisham and Estella; whenever the light struck aslant, afar off, upon a cloud or sail or green hill or
waterline, it was just the same" (124; ch 15). This reveals how Pip is no longer able to think about
beautiful objects without thinking of Estella. He is connecting symbols of purity and peacefulness to
the ever chaotic and manipulative Miss Havisham and Estella. Because he idealizes them and puts
them on a pedestal, he is unable to care about them as equals or as human beings. In addition, while
Pip is waiting with Joe by the door for Mrs. Joe to come home, he "looked at the stars, and
considered how awful it would be for a man to turn his face up to them as he froze to death, and see
no help or pity in all the glittering multitude" (59; ch 7); this illustrates how Pip views the stars the
same way he views Estella: as cold and pitiless. While they are beautiful, they are completely out of
reach. And despite the fact that stars, by nature, are fiery and warm,

tries to resist his force. However in Marie de France's lay "Lanval", she talks about a knight that
possessed great qualities such as beauty and courage, this caused him to be envied by many. If it had
not been for his misfortune he would not live a sad and lonely life. No one offered to assist this
worthy knight because he was born far away and spent all of his inheritance.
The similarities that connects these works in both "Lanval" and Wife of Bath's Tale are that both
men are knights to King Arthur. In "Lanval" the noble knight decides to falls for a fairly beautiful ...

In "Lanval" although he has no fortune he finds love with a fairy and chooses to be with her rather
than the other ladies in his strange land. During his tale he is put on trial for being faithful to his
lover and denying the queens lustfulness. And in the "Wife of Bathe Tale" the knight rapes a maiden
and sent on quest to find out what woman want, after discovering his answer from an old hag he is
set free of his charges. He then has to marry the hag because he is set free and at the end she turns
into a beautiful young lady. This is ironic because of the crime he commits the tale ends with him
having a happy ever after. This is a major deference seen in the consequences given to both men for
their crimes committed. In a real life scenario the knight consequences should have been harsher
instead he is rewarded with a beautiful young lady. If the hag had remained old and ugly that would
be fair punishment. As for Lanval he was falsely accused for denying his queen, but at the end he
was freed and went off with his fair lady into a possible happy

A Comparison Of Love In Hero And Claudio In Much Ado About...
Do you believe that two people who just met can really "fall in love"? In the book Much Ado About
Nothing by William Shakespeare, the two main characters, Hero and Claudio, are thought to be in
love. Claudio and Hero are not actually in love because they just met, with no prior knowledge of
each other, and were easily able to move on after their marriage failed.
To start, at the beginning of the story Claudio and Hero had just met, yet they already seemed to
start catch feelings for one another. Claudio says, "... All prompting me how fair young Hero is,
saying I lik'd her ere I went to wars" (Shakespeare 15). I believe that this is more of a representation
of lust versus true love. They have only recently met so they haven't even had any

Comparison Of Love Poetry: Essay
Comparison Of Love Poetry:
Rememberby Christina Rossetti, How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth
Barrett Browning and When We Two Parted by Lord Byron
The three poems, Remember by Christina Rossetti; How Do I love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett
Browning and When We Two Parted by Lord Byron, each explore love and loss in their own unique
ways. Remember is, as expected from the title, a solemn lament which is a farewell sonnet to her
treasured one. How Do I Love Thee? is again a sonnet of love but is of a love that is present and
hopefully will remain forever. The third poem that will be examined is When We Two Parted which
tells of a lost secret love that has left a scar on Lord Byron's life.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning's impressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also happens in
First Love by John Clare where this rhyming structure stresses the fact that they were not as one
rather just the one. When We Two Parted is particularly interesting as Lord Byron is frequently
described as a womaniser yet he seems to express regret at the incident as, for once, it appears to
have harmed him more than the other involved.
The last poem to be studied in detail is Remember by Christina
Rossetti. This is a patriarchal sonnet like How Do I Love Thee? but tells a different story.
Remember is a sombre dirge acting as a departing message for Christina Rossetti's loved one. Also
the separation between the octet and the sestet is much more evident in this, the first segment of
eight lines is a reminder of the good times and how much she will be missed. But the second section
of six lines acts as a messenger to tell that the time has come to move on. To live their life without
the one soon deceased. We also know that this poem is genuinely heartfelt as
Christina Rossetti had a recurring illness which was diagnosed sometimes as angina and sometimes
as tuberculosis before finally dying of cancer on December 29th 1894.
How Do I Love Thee? is thought by many to be the epitome of the love poem and I don't think
anyone can disagree when reading the descriptions of faultless love. 'I love thee to the depth and
breadth and height my soul can reach'. This is, perhaps, the best description of true love, showing

The Comparison of Two Love Poems
The poem "How Do I Love Thee", by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and "What Lips My Lips Have
Kissed", by Edna Vincent Millay are both well–known poems that both have themes of love. (LIT,
Kirszner & Mandell, Pg. 490). In both poems the poet helps the reader experience a lot of emotion
with the use of certain words. There are speakers in both poems. In Mrs. Browning's poem, the
speaker is undefined, leaving open that the speaker could be a he or she. Millay's poem which is
written in first person, the speaker is more defined leading the reader to believe it is a she who is
talking about love in the past tense. Both poems are sonnets written with fourteen lines, and written
in Italian style. When comparing these poems we will be looking at the use of rhyme scheme and
metaphors and how they were used to express emotions in these two sonnet poems.
One of the most used love poems would have to be, "How Do I Love Thee?" by Elizabeth Barrett
Browning. It has been recited at many weddings for people who use it to announce their love for
each other. And if a person were to ask someone if they had ever heard of this poem they would
most likely get an answer of yes. In Mrs. Browning's poem she uses the repeating of the same
words, "I Love Thee", over and over, which gives the poem its rhythm. But yet she still uses the
rhyming scheme at the end of sentences that rhyme like these two sentences, "I love thee to the
depth and breadth and height/My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight".

Comparison Of Love In The Blinding Of Truth, And The...

  • 1. Comparison Of Love In The Blinding Of Truth, And The... Shakespeare stated, "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none." In all three of the myths I use love was shown in one way or another. Pandora's Box, The Blinding of Truth, and The Mirror Myth were similar because when they were in a bad situation, they had love and trust in their hearts, but there was different kinds of love. In the myth Pandora's Box a woman named Hermes gave Pandora a box, and told her not to open it. She opens it out of curiosity when her husband Epimetheus is asleep. A multitude of brown winged creatures fly out. She accidentally lets out all of the evil in the world. Epimetheus quickly closes the box, but Pandora hears whispering. She opens the box one more time and finds hope in the form of a white moth. When hope was let out, the fighting stopped and good was restored back into the world. All of the myths have something bad happening in the beginning, and in this case it is Pandora opening the box. Epimetheus and Pandora love each other unconditionally like husband and wife should. The god relied Pandora to keep the box closed, but she betrayed their trust out of curiosity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Mirror Myth, a little girl's mother died. Before she took her last breath, she gave her daughter a mirror that had great sentimental value. The father remarried and the girl's stepmother hated her. Sometimes, the girl would sit in the corner and look into the mirror. Once her stepmom saw her whispering to herself and thought she was doing witchcraft. She went to her husband and told him what she saw. He confronted his daughter, but she explained what was happening, and he believed her. The stepmother was embarrassed, but she and her step daughter still made up in the end. The girl's mother died, but that made for a new mother–daughter relationship with her stepmom. • 3. Sleeping Love And Maleficent: Movie Comparison Comparison of the character dimensions between the 1959 Disney classic Sleeping Beauty and the 2014 remake Maleficent shows that the main differences between both movies are that of Maleficent. The 2014 movie provides insight into her motives and promotes the expansion of her character to blur the lines between the stereotypes of good and evil. The Fairies also change dramatically to further highlight these differences. This is almost a parallel shift as the characters make complete changes in both roles and personality. In Maleficent the viewers are given a backstory of the main characters King Stefan and Maleficent. It is through these backstories that we, as the audience, understand the reasoning and behind their actions. Maleficent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The differences between her character in Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent are polar opposites. She is given a kingdom with subjects who love her but she does not rule over them until her heart is broken and she casts the curse. The curse in Sleeping Beauty is cast on Aurora because Maleficent is jealous she did not get invited to the celebration. The curse in Maleficent is actually upon King Stefan as Maleficent is heartbroken because he swore to her that he loved her. The motive behind it has changed and that is why the wording of the curse is changed. In Sleeping Beauty Aurora is cursed to die, it is the good fairy Merryweather that alters the curse to leave Aurora in a 'Deathlike Sleep'. In Maleficent it is the witch herself that changes her own curse when Stefan begs her to have mercy. In the original Sleeping Beauty there is a huge emphasis on Prince Philip being the true loves kiss that will break the curse. Prince Philip is Aurora's true love and it is only through his kiss that she will wake. Whereas in Maleficent Aurora still stays asleep even after her 'true love kiss' from Prince Philip. Maleficent, after proclaiming her love for the child, leans down and kisses Aurora's forehead, this is when Aurora wakes and it is shown the depth and trueness of the love that Maleficent shows Aurora. By changing that scene in Maleficent it takes Prince ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Comparison Between 'Because He Loves Her And Girl Afraid' The poem "Because He loves Her", by Emily Dickinson, and the song "Girl Afraid" by The Smiths share a common topic: relationship dynamics. They discuss two different couples and show both ends of the spectrum. In Dickinson's poem, the two are in love and the man treats his love exceptionally well. In "Girl Afraid", the couple is in a vastly different situation. They seem listless and completely lacking in love or feelings of intimacy. Emily Dickinson's poem seems to be from an outsider's perspective. "We will pry and see if she is fair" gives the impression that perhaps the narrator deems the man's paramour maybe lacking, or maybe the narrator is jealous (Dickinson 2). This line sets the tone of the rest of the poem as a possibly bitter narrator grows to grudgingly admit that the woman mentioned is beyond suitable. Then there is "That we are so far behind– / Her Distances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the two stay together despite their issues and their mutual cry of "I'll never make that mistake again". Emily Dickinson's "Because He loves Her" has a thriving relationship in comparison, and the misery is that of the narrator's. In the song, the girl laments that her boyfriend doesn't notice her despite her attempts to garner his attention. In contrast, "Not hoping for his notice vast / But nearer to adore" means that the woman in the poem does not have to try to get her beau's attention, and that he just adores her (Dickinson 9–10). The poem and the song both delve into the dynamics between a romantically involved pair, and seem to have three characters. In "Because He loves Her", the three characters are the woman, the man, and the jealous narrator. In "Girl Afraid", the three characters are the girl, the boy, and the person they seem to be complaining to. This leads to the ideas of both the poem and the song, and how they have similar tones, and the importance of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sonnet 130 and My Ugly Love Contrast and Comparison Essay Sonnet 130 and My Ugly Love Contrast and Comparison Shakespeare's sonnet 130, "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun" and Pablo Neruda's "My ugly love" are popularly known to describe beauty in a way hardly anyone would write: through the truth. It's a common fact that modern lovers and poets speak or write of their beloved with what they and the audience would like to hear, with kind and breathtaking words and verses. Yet, Shakespeare and Neruda, honest men as they both were, chose to write about what love truly is, it matters most what's on the inside rather than the outside. The theme of true beauty and love are found through Shakespeare and Neruda's uses of imagery, structure, and tone. The imagery portrayed in both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In like manner, the last verse in Neruda's sonnet, "My love: I love you for clarity, your dark" could be interpreted to mean that the speaker loves his beloved to continue being a mystery for him in so that he could find more beautiful qualities about her by focusing on her unattractive qualities first. Similarly, Shakespeare's last couplet, "And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare as any she belied with false compare" display's the speaker's love for what is real rather than how his beloved ought to be. In brief, the imagery plays a huge part within both sonnets because it can give readers insight as to how the speakers think. Shakespeare and Neruda's poem are obviously known to be sonnets, however they don't both share the same structure; Shakespeare's is of course a Shakespearean sonnet containing fourteen lines and has a particular rhyme scheme (ababcdcdefefgg), but Neruda's sonnet doesn't follow Shakespeare's or the traditional Italian sonnet. Rather, Neruda's sonnet does indeed contain fourteen lines, but most follows the free verse sonnet structure, since there is no rhyme scheme. Yet, likewise, both sonnets do present a problem in the first verses and then develop towards a solution. In the following, on Neruda's lines, "My ugly...My beauty...Ugly:...Beauty:.." the speaker starts acknowledging his beloved that he is proud she is his for him to say "my", but as the ... I love Lucy is an American television sitcom that was made in 1951 and ended in 1957. I love Lucy was an old modern television showed that was in black and white, the picture was old and not as advanced as television today. The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom started in 1989 and is still showing as of today. The Simpsons is a more colorful and also animated TV show. Scott Momaday, the reader gains views of Native American culture, both past and present, through two disparate means of delivery. Both authors provide immensely rich portrayals through varying literary devices in efforts to bring about a better understanding of problems contemporary Native Americans face, especially regarding their own self–identity. The story of Love Medicine revolves around a central character, June Kashpaw, and the many threads of relationships surrounding her, both near the time of her death, and in what has gone on before. Erdrich appears to have a series of plots, or "plots within plots" in Love Medicine, At times, it is difficult to anticipate where a plot exists until it becomes apparent in its crisis resolution. Again, much like Momaday's work, the plots are episodic––the different stories are interconnected and feed into one another, but are capable of standing alone withy their own plots. Erdrich makes heavy use of the characters themselves to advance the plot for each episode, and in inter–relation between each episode., whereas Momaday relies more on past story as a guide to present context. Characterization is the strength of Love Medicine. The humorous, but tragic, exploits of eccentric characters are extremely vivid in her story, and force a constant chnage of viewpoint for the reader as more aspects of characters are revealed. The characters in this novel are a woven pattern of intricacy possibly far surpassing the reader's ability, and especially surpassing the characters themselves. This may be by design, as those things unresolved and disjointed by the end of the story can promote an incomplete and unsettled set of emotions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Considering that there are many different levels of realism, I have chosen to focus on Neuromancer by William Gibson and We so Seldom Look on Love by Barbara Gowdy. The stories explore the boundaries of realism by using similar elements. The most obvious one is the margin between life and death, which these two stories address. The main characters separate themselves from society's idealistic realism. Nevertheless, where is their identity placed when living in a different realism? How does one understand the reality of a person with a fragmented mind? "`Linda, who told you? Who told you I would come? Who?'" • 20. Sonnet 14 And True Love Comparison Essay When it comes to love, each person seems to have a differing opinion and definition on what constitutes genuine love. Two of these interpretations come from Elizabeth Barrett Browning's "Sonnet 14" and the song "Superficial Love" by Ruth Berhe. To serve as a bit of a refresher, within the sonnet, Browning focuses on how love can never dwindle when it does not rely on temporal reasons to stay alive. As for the song, Berhe states her desire to have something that is more than just a superficial love with her lover. Given that both writers draw attention towards the subject of love, it makes it easier for individuals to quickly begin the process of analyzing and comparing both works. After all, we are constantly and instantaneously making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first one that is mentioned deals with the way she is treated: 'Cause I'm so done, not being your number one And if you wanna keep me, then you better treat me Like a damn princess, make that an empress (12–14) Not only does this quote demonstrate that Berhe feels as though she is not being placed as a priority in her lover's eyes, but it also shows how she feels like she isn't being treated in the manner that she deserves. Another conflict that is revealed places the attention on Berhe's longing for a genuine connection, one that isn't just felt physically, but also "in [her] heart and on [her] mind" (34). So, even though she definitely feels as though there is something there, she wants this bond to go beyond what is physical. Moving on, the other major difference is the tone of the information. Simply by reading "Sonnet 14", readers can pick up on Browning's attitude which is one of frustration. Through the constant repetition of her yearning to be loved just for love, we detect her exasperation from having to repeat herself to get the point across in order to demonstrate how important it is to her. On the other hand, Berhe's song has more of a cautionary tone, as she warns her love to take certain steps to guarantee that their love is not superficial. If it is, she does not want any part of it: "'Cause I'm not perfect, I'm flawed / And if you don't like that, get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparison of Authority Figures in Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Love Stoppard's satirical movie, Shakespeare in Love, is a play on Shakespeare's tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard places Shakespeare himself into a relationship with Viola De Lesseps, that resembles the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard incorporates countless parallels into the film from Shakespeare's love story, including the character development of major authority figures. The prince and the queen, Capulet and Viola's father, and the Friar and the Priest are all figures of authority and parallel between the two works; Stoppard gave his cast similarities to Shakespeare's characters, but they also varied in some aspects. Stoppard's decision to both keep some and change some character attributes of these authority figures helps contribute and develop the ending of the movie, just as Shakespeare's character developments contributed to the outcome of his plays. In Romeo and Juliet, the supreme authority is the Prince; he is the governing individual in Verona, Italy where the setting takes place, just as Queen Elizabeth is shown as the highest authority in England in Shakespeare in Love. One key difference between these leaders in the stories is that the Prince is mostly concerned with keeping the peace, while the Queen also appreciates and respects Viola's risk and is excited by Viola and her relationship with Shakespeare. The pursuit of an ideal and perfect love and the way that this endeavor shapes human relationships is a defining connection between the characters of The Notebook and The Time Traveler's Wife, written respectively by Nicholas Sparks and Audrey Niffenegger. The suggestion of, not only desire for an ideal love but also a deep–seated need for this kind of love is something that becomes very familiar to the reader in The Notebook, as it is witnessed by the fate–like reconnection between Noah and Allie. In particular, 'a picture of [Allie's] dreams' is located in the central location of the house, 'see desire in . . . every stroke' symbolizes the ever–changing nature of their relationship, just as Allie was 'adding to it every day, changing it as our relationship changed'. Much like Allie's painting, Henry and Clare's house in Chicago mirrors their married life, marked by ups and downs. It has seen their characters and relationships develop, at times being a safe haven where the house 'envelops us, watches us, contemplates us' as though it were a guardian. The house, however, also sees Henry's frequent disappearances and Clare's endless longing, a 'love intensified by absence'. It 'watches' the many arguments, Clare's multiple miscarriages, and eventually Henry's death, morphing and altering with each new event. Through the setting of the nursing home, Sparks is able to evoke the emotions of longing, distress, and pity in the reader. It is a place of sadness and loss, with the constant reminder of an entire life, not remembered, 'she would stare at forgotten offspring, hold paintbrushes that inspired nothing, and read love letters that brought back no joy.' There are several lines with enjambment in the poem and this causes the piece of writing to have a certain flow and a different reading effect. Another poetic device the poem uses is a very straight forward writing style. From the start of the poem, the reader knows exactly what the author is feeling and the emotions that they speaker is trying to convey. This is very important to the poem because there had to be something in the writing that makes the reader want to keep reading. Marlowe and Ralegh knew each other and Ralegh's poem is a witty response to his friend's pastoral verse. In verse one of "The Passionate Shepherd to his Love", Christopher Marlowe gets straight to the point by saying, "Come live with me". This shows just how eager the shepherd is and then there is a pause where he goes on to say, "...and by my love". This is more of a gentle tone and softens what has just been said. In the next line there are two uses of alliteration, "And we will all the pleasures prove...", and the 'w's' and 'p's' add a persuasive definite feel to the verse. It was only after odysseus's men begged him to leave that he gave going home another thought. the fact that odysseus completely forgot about his home and family shows that he isn't very devoted to them. Penelope's sly clever side is revealed with her astuteness in delaying tactics. As she plans ways to get rid of the suitors, the clever notion of marrying again when she completes a shroud that she plans to never complete buys her time: "So every day wove on the great loom, but every night by torchlight I unwove" (pg. 697) She plans to weave a shroud during the day and then unweaves it each night. This simple trick has bought her three years. Furthermore, she also holds an archery contest in which the suitors will have to string Odysseus's bow and shoot through twelve axes: "You found no justification for yourselves – none except your lust to marry me. Stand up then: we now declare a contest for that prize" (pg. 699). Penelope's decision to marry whomever wins the archery contest results from her awareness that only her husband can win it. Penelope never refuses to marry outright. Instead, she puts off her decision and leads them on with promises that she will choose a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Comparison Of Scrubs, Friends, And Love The TV sitcoms of Scrubs, Friends, and Love all evolve around single young adults. By comparing the three, one can come to understand how love is shown through TV in the United States. Throughout the episodes, it becomes apparent on why the couples are together. In Scrubs, it is easy to see that Carla and Turk make each other happy. Dr. Perry Cox and Jordan are together because that is where they are comfortable. In Friends, Monica and Richard are together because it makes them happy. Ross and Rachel were bound to be together since the beginning. They are extremely happy when they finally are. The same goes for Mickey and Gus in Love. The way that love is portrayed through these shows is that people should be with someone who makes them happy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In each show, there was some sort of sexual action between the characters. This is very common now in TV shows and movies, as it "makes a good story." In all three episodes, it was implied that at least one of the couples engaged in some sort of sexual activity. In Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Geller are still attracted to each other. This helps show that one should always be attracted to the person who they claim to love. There should also always be romance, as in Turk and Carla's case in Scrubs. They engage in a sexual act, as does Gus and Mickey in Love. In Scrubs, it is apparent that work comes first. As Turk and Carla are having issues, Turk still has to go to the hospital when he is paged. However, throughout the episodes, it is apparent that love is about compromise. In Friends, Ross was against tattoos, but was fine after Rachel got one. In Love, Mickey wasn't a big fan of magic, but went to the castle with Gus anyways. Also, in Scrubs, Carla decides that the pressure to be romantic shouldn't all be on Turk. Comparison Of Final Love Note And Louise Gluck's Mock Orange The Importance of Language in Clare Rossini's Final Love Note and Louise Gluck's Mock Orange Love is such an abstract concept for the human mind to figure out. Along with the love of a mother for her child, there are many types of sensual love or brotherly love; friendship is frequently described as a type of love, as well. This abstraction can also be distorted and made to fit into categories that would normally be associated with negativity and abuse not "love." The word "wanton" is the first of three words that she uses in this poem that dramatically affect the tone of the poem. The Oxford English Dictionary defines "wanton" as being unruly, rebellious, and unmanageable. This definition is followed by another that has a relatively different meaning which is to describe someone or something that is dainty, fastidious, and playful. To place these definitions inside the poem, the reader can come out with two separate meanings to these first lines. One could take the first, which would mean that this relationship is peaceful and manageable. It is not out of control. By the second definition, however, the relationship is also not dainty, fastidious, or playful. To apply these definitions to the surface meaning of the poem makes sense, because a tree could not be playful or out of control. However, if a reader were to apply it to an intimate relationship, the relationship seems to have lost its luster. Perhaps, the participants are no longer as exciting as they once were. Rossini describes the tree's silence during the winter and continues with vivid imagery of "the slugs ate the yellow hearts/ Right out of my lilies, while you, elm, died on" (lines 11–12). This line gives an extremely emotional visualization of having your heart eaten out, figuratively, by someone that you love. The Phenomenon of Love in Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest We know from the very opening scene of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet's love will end in tragedy. We may wonder why Miranda and Ferdinand in The Tempest do not end up with the same fate as Romeo and Juliet. Both couples are from opposing political families. Both couples are enraptured with their lovers. Why then does Romeo and Juliet end with their death's and the Tempest end with Miranda and Ferdinand's marriage plan? In this paper I will argue that according to Shakespeare reason needs to guide the souls of lovers to avoid tragedy and find bliss. I will do this by examining and comparing William Shakespeare's plays; Romeo and Juliet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both cases we can see the passions of love between the lovers clouding their reason. In both plays Shakespeare has a councillor, or mentor, for each couple. In Romeo and Juliet this mentor is Friar Laurence and in The Tempest it is Prospero. Because of the nature of the phenomenon of love, it seems Shakespeare feels that both young couples need this mentor as a source of reason and advice to help guide them through their passions. Both mentors warn the couples against letting passion guide their souls. Both mentors do seem genuinely concerned with the pairing and the good of the lovers and those connected to them. Most importantly the mentors try to act as reason for the lovers while the are caught up in desire. These mentors are one way that reason ought to guide the souls of lovers.

The poems and sonnets I have chosen to compare are 'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' by Robert Browning and Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare The two Robert Browning poems, 'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' were written in the infamous Victorian Era whereas the two Shakespearean Sonnets were written in the Elizabethan Era. Likewise, the Victorian Era poet, Christina Rossetti credited with poems like 'I wish I could remember,' a feminist poem that was written from a woman's point of view, a poem which used the Italian Sonnet form. Christina Rossetti has used both the English Sonnet and the Italian Sonnet, and this may be reflective of her background; she was born in England, but her father was Italian, so Italy, its language and customs had a strong influence on her life and her creativeness. Sonnet 18 doesn't really show any signs of the blazon, whereas Sonnet 130 shows strong signs of the reversal of the blazon conventions. It turns the positives into hard–hitting real negatives, such as how his mistress is not a goddess, but in fact a real woman. This brings a new light to the reader about the poem, and the poem takes on a fresh perspective. The convention used is the similarly the opposite of the blazon convention in Chapter Four of the Song of Solomon, a love poem from the Bible, possibly the first recorded example of the blazon convention; its around 3,000 years old, The two Browning poems, 'Porphyria's Lover' and 'My Last Duchess' were written to convey to the reader how women were treated in that era; as possession, as assets. Most children yearn to love, honor, and grow a relationship with their mother and father, but one or both of their parents may be absent from their lives. The words love and honor is inscribed throughout the bible and is displayed in the fifth of Ten Commandments. Love and honor are two different words that have entirely two different meanings. To a woman, a father teaches her how to be respected and feel like a queen. However without the proper nurturing from the father the girl partakes in "the wrong men and to be promiscuous at an early age" (Prager). If a girl was taught how to value herself by her father, then she would not involve herself in in ungodly things and she would have learned to honor herself. Having no guidance or a father figure to set an example causes a girl or woman not to distinguish right from wrong and she set her own standards. Thus, a female cannot engage herself in attributes that are positive and honoring towards herself and others. However, not all fatherless woman partake in the wrong doings that Prager mentions in his article. It is not possible for teens to fall in love because teens fall in love too quickly, are very immature, and they are naive. Love takes time. You do not fall in love when first meeting someone. The definition of love is "an intense feeling of deep affection." In the story of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo falls in love with Juliet the second he sees her. He also forgets about the woman he was just in love with when he said "..her beauty is too rich to be touched, too heavenly for this earth!" (1.1.166). • 65. A Comparison Of Love In The Birthmark And Feathertop By... Love is a mysterious feeling that varies for each relationship. Some relationships have a very deep love, where the only thing that matters is personality. In these relationships, the people have a strong emotional bond because it doesn't matter what visual flaws the person has; the connection keeps them close. A surface deep relationship lacks this connection, and will not last. Once someone in a surface deep relationship finds a simple flaw, they will not be able to overcome that flaw and the relationship will deteriorate. Nathaniel Hawthorne had a beautiful wife named Sophia, and he loved her dearly. In Hawthorne's first journal entry, he wrote that Sophia was the only sunshine in the world. • 67. A Comparison Of Love In Great Expectations The Lovely and the Loveless People as well as writers often mistake infatuation with love. As a result, "love at first sight" is a common trope in film and literature. Love is something that takes time and effort; people must choose to put in the care and understanding into a relationship for it to be considered love. While the two are similar, infatuation is attraction to someone based on their appearance; love is mutual affection and the act of looking beyond someone's problems and flaws. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, the main characters all indulge in infatuation, but never love. Because Pip and Estella's lives are built off of appearances rather than character, they cannot form healthy relationships and thus cannot experience true love. Because Pip is obsessed with Estella's beauty and treats her as an object, he can never love her while he is forcing himself to love someone who will only hurt him. To illustrate, when Pip is out walking by the piers with Joe, he begins to think of Miss Havisham, an eccentric, miserable old woman, and Estella, a beautiful but cold hearted girl, pondering to himself, "It was pleasant and quiet... whenever I watched the vessels standing out to sea with their white sails spread, I somehow thought of Miss Havisham and Estella; whenever the light struck aslant, afar off, upon a cloud or sail or green hill or waterline, it was just the same" (124; ch 15). This reveals how Pip is no longer able to think about beautiful objects without thinking of Estella. He is connecting symbols of purity and peacefulness to the ever chaotic and manipulative Miss Havisham and Estella. Because he idealizes them and puts them on a pedestal, he is unable to care about them as equals or as human beings. In addition, while Pip is waiting with Joe by the door for Mrs. Joe to come home, he "looked at the stars, and considered how awful it would be for a man to turn his face up to them as he froze to death, and see no help or pity in all the glittering multitude" (59; ch 7); this illustrates how Pip views the stars the same way he views Estella: as cold and pitiless. While they are beautiful, they are completely out of reach. And despite the fact that stars, by nature, are fiery and warm, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Do I Love Thee? is again a sonnet of love but is of a love that is present and hopefully will remain forever. The last poem to be studied in detail is Remember by Christina Rossetti. This is a patriarchal sonnet like How Do I Love Thee? but tells a different story. Remember is a sombre dirge acting as a departing message for Christina Rossetti's loved one. Also the separation between the octet and the sestet is much more evident in this, the first segment of eight lines is a reminder of the good times and how much she will be missed. But the second section of six lines acts as a messenger to tell that the time has come to move on. To live their life without the one soon deceased. We also know that this poem is genuinely heartfelt as Christina Rossetti had a recurring illness which was diagnosed sometimes as angina and sometimes as tuberculosis before finally dying of cancer on December 29th 1894. How Do I Love Thee? is thought by many to be the epitome of the love poem and I don't think anyone can disagree when reading the descriptions of faultless love. • 79. The Comparison of Two Love Poems The poem "How Do I Love Thee", by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and "What Lips My Lips Have Kissed", by Edna Vincent Millay are both well–known poems that both have themes of love. (LIT, Kirszner & Mandell, Pg. 490). In both poems the poet helps the reader experience a lot of emotion with the use of certain words. There are speakers in both poems. In Mrs. Browning's poem, the speaker is undefined, leaving open that the speaker could be a he or she. Millay's poem which is written in first person, the speaker is more defined leading the reader to believe it is a she who is talking about love in the past tense. Both poems are sonnets written with fourteen lines, and written in Italian style. When comparing these poems we will be looking at the use of rhyme scheme and metaphors and how they were used to express emotions in these two sonnet poems. One of the most used love poems would have to be, "How Do I Love Thee?" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. It has been recited at many weddings for people who use it to announce their love for each other. And if a person were to ask someone if they had ever heard of this poem they would most likely get an answer of yes. In Mrs. Browning's poem she uses the repeating of the same words, "I Love Thee", over and over, which gives the poem its rhythm.
