Essay about College Expense
Congrats! You've been accepted to the college of your choice; now all that's left to figure out is
how you'll pay for college. Unfortunately, college costs don't end at tuition and room and board
you'll also have to pay for textbooks, meals, transportation, and a computer with working internet.
We have been told that we live in a free country, but if our country is so called "free," how come
paying for an education isn't? The most important in my case and many low income students is
trying to attend college and being able to pay without going into debt. I find myself, since 2010,
hearing the same stories of previous college graduate, who have gone into debt by the time they
reached their sophomore year of college. Excited to venture out...show more content...
The student loan debt has reached up to $1.2 trillion in federal debt; student loans are the second
highest consumer debt. A quick economics lesson, the national debt causes many consequences
when our economy isn't functioning in the level it should be, it causes our economic growth to
slow down and therefore less jobs are available and it causes interest rates to rise. According to
Chris Denhart, it's safer to receive federal loans rather than private loans. Federal student loans
are easier to pay and much rather safer, because federal loans are based on the income of the
student, they have fixed interest rates, and don't have to start paying until nine months later,
"making them a much safer loan for students to take." (1) On the contrary, with private loans that
isn't the case. "Private loans have done away with late fees, and in fine print have redefined the
right to claim default on the loan after missing a single payment," (1) what does that mean?
Simple, you can't afford to miss a payment and if you do prepare to have a bad credit. A result of
bad credit would lead to negative effects in the future as well. By having bad credit students in the
long run won't be able to invest in a house, a car, a business, etc., which would leave the economy
without any money coming in. "As a nation, we need more college graduates in order to stay
competitive in the global economy,"

Pros And Cons Of College Essay
As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college.
This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for
everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people
who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest
growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going
for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect.
Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding
your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea
for any age student.
When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year
university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue.
Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only
require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the
experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college
experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein
believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more
diversity, and

What is the Purpose of College? Essay example
A college education gives a person the opportunity to be successful in life, either financially or
morally dependent on the goals that they set for their life. They will choose a college that offer
programs for the major of their choice, where they will specialize and receive a degree. The decision
to pursue a higher education will give the opportunity to earn a better income over someone who
does not have a degree. College is more of life preparation course that will help make sure a
successful career. If a person pursues a career in engineering, physics or mathematics their
curriculum would include more liberal art preparation courses, in order for them to earn their

Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and
smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to
earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets.
President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will
out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are.
By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the
world," ("Full"). American colleges need to do a better job at improving math and science scores so
that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously
outperforming American students. Gary W. Phillips, chief scientist at the American Institutes of
Research said "In this case, the bad news trumps the good because our Asian economic competitors
are winning the race to prepare students in math and science," (Dillon). The better colleges prepare
students to edge out competitors in the world market needs to be their priority. Secondly the
purpose of a college education is to meet the student's liberal art's needs so that they can compete
and give them a well–rounded education that will enable them to earn

My Experience As A College Student Essay
Introduction I have enjoyed the opportunity to be an active student in this class. I have been
delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors
practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my
learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I
have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment.
Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process
information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very
relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key
elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will
explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and
self–actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone
could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of
college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I
attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although
I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class
assignments was horrendous. I was

My Experience Of College Freshman
Good Day Everyone I would like to share my first semester in college life and my experience. My
first semester in college. I notice about've been noticing how college freshmen are so obviously
college freshmen. I was extremely nervous about meeting people and making friends at National
College of Business and Arts. I also totally remember the excitement, anxiousness and remarkable
amount of cluelessness that comes with being a brand spankin' new college freshman. The first
semester of my freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not getting what I wanted. Not
getting things that I applied for. Not fitting into the group of people that I wanted to be friends
with. Not having any of the guys that I was interested in be interested back. Not achieving the
grades I wanted (and kind of assumed I would get). That's just a whole lot of experience...show more

And it's an experience that I offer to current college freshmen to learn from. But, even more
valuable than my lessons learned, is your own experience. I want to lock down and be completely
focused on school and get the grades I want. College is way more enjoyable when you are getting
good grades. At one point during my first semester my grades weren't too good, and I wasn't
enjoying college. I was always stressed out and worrying constantly. Every time I went to sleep I
would worry, and it really affected me. Now, I started the semester off strong and I'm really
enjoying college and I have no worries in the back of my mind Everyone has a different
adjustment to college. Maybe you're the one who can and will hit the ground running. Or maybe
you're like me, and you just need to learn to be patient. So, even if you feel like you're not getting
what you want out of college, just realize that it is an experience for you to learn and grow from.

Compare and Contrast Essay
Community College vs. Universities
Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the
hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College
or a University. Although Universities and CommunityCollege serve the same purpose, each has its
differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and
student life. Community College are the most common type of two–year College that prepares you
to continue your education, are often an affordable and convenient option. Universities you can earn
Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees which is more expensive. At a University, you can...show

Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a
community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the
same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice,
students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community
college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be
able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer
to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can
pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from
teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask
questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community
colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from
high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a
University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the
majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees
included. Both university and community colleges sponsor

Before entering English 1301, I had my doubts about what this class was going to consist of.
Considering this is a college level English class, and a subject I struggled in, my worries were not at
ease. Throughout the year, my understanding and comprehension of the writing process, as well as
how to write different varieties of writing, have strengthened. After partaking in this course, I am
confident I have met the student learning outcomes. After completing my first college level English
class, I would be expected to meet four student learning outcomes. One of those being I could use
rhetorical devices to strengthen my essays. Coming into this course, I did not have a grasp over this

I have improved my grammar through feedback from my instructor, and workshops I participated in.
There is a significant difference between my writing conventions from the beginning of the year to
my present writing conventions. In my second essay, The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life, I have
noticed many writing convention errors. In this essay I said, "Also with the lack of technology, they
were influenced to be more adventurous and get out of the house and explore things on their own"
(The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life) This sentence is a prime example of faulty sentence structure; it
lacks punctuation in the right places. My third essay, Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors, has less
errors and shows improvement on these writing conventions. Improvement can be seen in the
sentence, " Euthanasia should not be legal because it is not morally correct, undermines medical
research, and denies patients the final stage of growth"(Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors). This
shows development on sentence structure, punctuation, and helps gives my essay a polished look.
Without this, errors I may have previously made would be even more

College Admissions Essay: My Passion
When people would say "My hobby is this," or "My passion is that," I would wonder how he or
she found an activity that they could completely devote themselves to. I always thought that I would
immediately know what my passion or hobby was when I encountered it. For me, it happened to be
music. My passion for music, however, didn't come immediately; music wasn't something that I said
to myself, "This is it. I've found my passion in life." The piano wasn't like that at all.
When I started to play the piano, you could say that I wasn't its biggest fan. In fact, I hated it. I
remember my eyes swimming across the page, lost in a sea of little black dots. I mumbled endless
mnemonic tricks to try to read the notes. Every single part of your body is engaged to make that
piano sing; your fingers must move independently; your hands, arms, shoulders, and back must
supply the weight to depress the keys; your feet must push the pedals, and...show more content...

Without my parents pushing and forcing me to continue my musical studies, I wouldn't have
continued playing. And then, when I was about eight or nine, something started to happen. I
didn't have to use a stopwatch to make sure I had practiced enough. I could start to read the notes
without using any memorization tools, and, I actually began to enjoy my practice. Now, at
fifteen, nobody has to force me to practice anymore. Out of my own accord, I take several hours
out of every day to pursue this art that I've been chasing for ten years. I enjoy it, I live in it, and it
has become an inseparable part of me. This art has taken me places and introduced me to people I
would never have met without music. I have made lifelong friends and connections, and talk
regularly to college professors, all because of our mutual connection to

Personal Growth in College Essay
So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better
person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting
work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high
school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be
successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult.
First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many
different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I say I have to get study habits. I high
school I never studied, because everything came so easy to me and I could just...show more content...
That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're
on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when
it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to
wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus.
Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school;
you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying
for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College
is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second
year I understand what I have to do to finish school. I understand more and more why education is
a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change your game
plan to get where you want to be in life.
In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed
person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in
college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make
the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Don't let college change you for
the worst, take advantage of

Why I Chose When Attending A Small College
Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but
also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the
career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big
colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend
West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I
come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. West Hills
Coalinga has the same opportunities all colleges have, but not only that, you can save yourself
many personal and financial expenses as well. Going to a college in a big city is going to be
overpriced because in a big city everything is really expensive including housing, but if I were to

feel as though I did not belong like I would in the big city. I would feel more comfortable attending a
small college coming directly from a small high school. A lot of people say that you have better
opportunities going to a big college than going to a small college, but I believe attending a small

Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather
it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in
life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college
necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus
before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views
from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they

garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going
to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after
they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so
much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in
a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off
all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of
time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes
that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education
requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel
is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a

College Admissions Essay: The LGBT Community
College Essay Throughout my life I have experienced many things that have molded me into the
person I am today, but the one I find most profound involves my coming out as a member of the
LGBT+ community. As a child I suffered tremendously with confusion, self hatred, and
misunderstanding about my own sexuality. Growing up queer in a small town is never an easy
thing. I went through years of denial, and hid all of my thoughts about what I thought could be. I
was so muddled in an all too common train of thought that my first conclusion was that I was
incapable of loving another human being. Having never experienced honest crushes or any
emotional or physical attraction to the opposite sex, I was very frightened for my ability to one day
have a family. This thought put me into a mode of paranoia and panic. I began to search any place
I could for any other possibility, hoping for some form of medication or therapy to ail me of what
I thought was a mental illness. After only a few minutes at the computer, I realized there was
nothing wrong with my mind, or capability to love. I am just gay. After this realization, I was still

My College Experience
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and
explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior
year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard
people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully
understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at

My Journey to College
I first came to the university during spring break of my junior year of high school. At the time I
was just visiting the three main universities in Arizona so that I would be able to make an educated
decision as to where I wanted to get my college education. There were many events showing me the
way to this university and little did I know that these events would come upon me and that they
would show me the doors to the place where I was truly meant to be.

me seeing as how I had never moved in my life and how this would be my new home for the next

After being accepted my mom and I made another visit up to NAU so that I could see the
university with different eyes, eyes that new this was where the journey of my life was heading
next. We arrived at NAU and I was very excited to be on campus once again but with a completely
new perspective. I met with an HRM advisor and talked a little more about the program. At that
time I learned all about their study abroad program. From that information I decide that I wanted
not to just be a hotel and restaurant major but that I wanted to be a full International Hospitality
major. This was going to be a little more work than my original plan but I would get to study abroad
and experience so much culture.
After my meeting with the HRM advisor we headed over to the dorms to check them out. I ended
up walking past Sechrist Hall first and was approached by an NAU student who seemed to be

My Experience In A College Class
"Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs.
Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college
course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills
was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but
this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences,
but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The
reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about
how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay
approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing
insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make
myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the
yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to
improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to
dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I
took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and
realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I

College Level Reflection Paper
While registering for a college–level course, last year, I questioned how difficult the class would be.
I had taken a course the previous semester that had covered the basics in business and economy, yet
this would be the first course in English–a topic that I had been told, on many occasions, that I
excelled in. Because of this, I came into this year's English class confident and sure that I would
receive top marks easily. Unfortunately, it was not so. I struggled through several of the assignments
given to me, yet I learned several new techniques and gained insight in what a college–level essay
truly consists of. Because of this class, I learned of the importance of transitions between points, the
importance of reducing wordiness in sentences, and the importance of explaining information and
quotations fully.
Over the course of this class, my essays have changed and improved in the way of transitions. At the
beginning of the semester, I wrote an introductory reflective essay that covered how I felt about
reading or writing. While I enjoyed researching and thinking over the topic thoroughly, the actual
act of writing it went poorly, according to the feedback I received from my teacher. The paper was
riddled with pencil marks describing issues, the most prevalent of these being transitions between
points and paragraphs. I had been previously taught to write a sentence at the end of a paragraph
explaining all that I covered in it, to sum it up. Unfortunately, academic,

daunting, with huge possibilities as to the kind of person that I want to be when I graduate.
College is known as a transformation period in the life of a young adult, and I hope to take full
advantage of this time. By setting expectations and goals for myself, hopefully I can be
successful as I seek out the person that God wants me to be. I have set up, and outlined,
academic, spiritual, and personal goals to achieve my first semester here at college. For this
semester, I have set a high expectation for myself academically. Specifically, I would like to be
able to maintain all A's, and therefore a 4.0 GPA. If I am able to do this, and possibly continue it
on through all eight semesters of my college career, I will be a more competitive applicant for PA
school, or med school, or whatever post undergraduate schooling that my future entails. Not only
would achieving this goal be beneficial to my future career, I hope to honor Christ by working
hard in everything that I do, and this is one way that I can do that. This goal is measurable
because I can regularly check my grades to make sure that I am staying on track with each class
to attain this goal. I believe that getting all A's is also achievable is I remained focused and
driven, delegating ahead of time the study time that I will need to be successful in each of my
classes. For each hour that I spend in a class, I will plan on spending at least three hours outside of
class with the covered material to be successful. This can be realistic if I am careful to make sure
that I don't commit myself too heavily to extracurricular activities. While I will be checking my
grades weekly, half–way through the semester I will evaluate my study strategies, and whether they
were successful or need to be changed to stay on target. Ultimately, I would like to see myself
meet this goal at the end of the semester and carry the habits that I have learned to the rest of my
college career. Spiritually, I know that this time is quintessential in the establishing of my faith and
walk with Christ. My goal is to set habits and practices for myself that will help me grow spiritually.

College Costs Essay: How to Pay for Higher Education Without Debt

  • 1. Essay about College Expense Congrats! You've been accepted to the college of your choice; now all that's left to figure out is how you'll pay for college. Unfortunately, college costs don't end at tuition and room and board you'll also have to pay for textbooks, meals, transportation, and a computer with working internet. We have been told that we live in a free country, but if our country is so called "free," how come paying for an education isn't? The most important in my case and many low income students is trying to attend college and being able to pay without going into debt. I find myself, since 2010, hearing the same stories of previous college graduate, who have gone into debt by the time they reached their sophomore year of college. Excited to venture out...show more content... The student loan debt has reached up to $1.2 trillion in federal debt; student loans are the second highest consumer debt. A quick economics lesson, the national debt causes many consequences when our economy isn't functioning in the level it should be, it causes our economic growth to slow down and therefore less jobs are available and it causes interest rates to rise. According to Chris Denhart, it's safer to receive federal loans rather than private loans. Federal student loans are easier to pay and much rather safer, because federal loans are based on the income of the student, they have fixed interest rates, and don't have to start paying until nine months later, "making them a much safer loan for students to take." (1) On the contrary, with private loans that isn't the case. "Private loans have done away with late fees, and in fine print have redefined the right to claim default on the loan after missing a single payment," (1) what does that mean? Simple, you can't afford to miss a payment and if you do prepare to have a bad credit. A result of bad credit would lead to negative effects in the future as well. By having bad credit students in the long run won't be able to invest in a house, a car, a business, etc., which would leave the economy without any money coming in. "As a nation, we need more college graduates in order to stay competitive in the global economy," Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Pros And Cons Of College Essay As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college. This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect. Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea for any age student. When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue. Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more diversity, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. What is the Purpose of College? Essay example A college education gives a person the opportunity to be successful in life, either financially or morally dependent on the goals that they set for their life. They will choose a college that offer programs for the major of their choice, where they will specialize and receive a degree. The decision to pursue a higher education will give the opportunity to earn a better income over someone who does not have a degree. College is more of life preparation course that will help make sure a successful career. If a person pursues a career in engineering, physics or mathematics their curriculum would include more liberal art preparation courses, in order for them to earn their degree, so someone pursuing a degree in these types of careers are...show more content... Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets. President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are. By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the world," ("Full"). American colleges need to do a better job at improving math and science scores so that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously outperforming American students. Gary W. Phillips, chief scientist at the American Institutes of Research said "In this case, the bad news trumps the good because our Asian economic competitors are winning the race to prepare students in math and science," (Dillon). The better colleges prepare students to edge out competitors in the world market needs to be their priority. Secondly the purpose of a college education is to meet the student's liberal art's needs so that they can compete and give them a well–rounded education that will enable them to earn Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Experience As A College Student Essay Introduction I have enjoyed the opportunity to be an active student in this class. I have been delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment. Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and self–actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class assignments was horrendous. I was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. My Experience Of College Freshman Good Day Everyone I would like to share my first semester in college life and my experience. My first semester in college. I notice about've been noticing how college freshmen are so obviously college freshmen. I was extremely nervous about meeting people and making friends at National College of Business and Arts. I also totally remember the excitement, anxiousness and remarkable amount of cluelessness that comes with being a brand spankin' new college freshman. The first semester of my freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not getting what I wanted. Not getting things that I applied for. Not fitting into the group of people that I wanted to be friends with. Not having any of the guys that I was interested in be interested back. Not achieving the grades I wanted (and kind of assumed I would get). That's just a whole lot of experience...show more content... And it's an experience that I offer to current college freshmen to learn from. But, even more valuable than my lessons learned, is your own experience. I want to lock down and be completely focused on school and get the grades I want. College is way more enjoyable when you are getting good grades. At one point during my first semester my grades weren't too good, and I wasn't enjoying college. I was always stressed out and worrying constantly. Every time I went to sleep I would worry, and it really affected me. Now, I started the semester off strong and I'm really enjoying college and I have no worries in the back of my mind Everyone has a different adjustment to college. Maybe you're the one who can and will hit the ground running. Or maybe you're like me, and you just need to learn to be patient. So, even if you feel like you're not getting what you want out of college, just realize that it is an experience for you to learn and grow from. Because this is just the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Community College vs University Essay examples Compare and Contrast Essay Community College vs. Universities Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College or a University. Although Universities and CommunityCollege serve the same purpose, each has its differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and student life. Community College are the most common type of two–year College that prepares you to continue your education, are often an affordable and convenient option. Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree. Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees included. Considering this is a college level English class, and a subject I struggled in, my worries were not at ease. Throughout the year, my understanding and comprehension of the writing process, as well as how to write different varieties of writing, have strengthened. After partaking in this course, I am confident I have met the student learning outcomes. After completing my first college level English class, I would be expected to meet four student learning outcomes. One of those being I could use rhetorical devices to strengthen my essays. Coming into this course, I did not have a grasp over this subject and knew it was something I could improve on....show more content... I have improved my grammar through feedback from my instructor, and workshops I participated in. There is a significant difference between my writing conventions from the beginning of the year to my present writing conventions. In my second essay, The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life, I have noticed many writing convention errors. In this essay I said, "Also with the lack of technology, they were influenced to be more adventurous and get out of the house and explore things on their own" (The Drastic Evolution of Teen Life) This sentence is a prime example of faulty sentence structure; it lacks punctuation in the right places. My third essay, Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors, has less errors and shows improvement on these writing conventions. Improvement can be seen in the sentence, " Euthanasia should not be legal because it is not morally correct, undermines medical research, and denies patients the final stage of growth"(Euthanasia: Condemned by Doctors). This shows development on sentence structure, punctuation, and helps gives my essay a polished look. Without this, errors I may have previously made would be even more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. College Admissions Essay: My Passion When people would say "My hobby is this," or "My passion is that," I would wonder how he or she found an activity that they could completely devote themselves to. I always thought that I would immediately know what my passion or hobby was when I encountered it. For me, it happened to be music. My passion for music, however, didn't come immediately; music wasn't something that I said to myself, "This is it. I've found my passion in life." The piano wasn't like that at all. When I started to play the piano, you could say that I wasn't its biggest fan. In fact, I hated it. I remember my eyes swimming across the page, lost in a sea of little black dots. I mumbled endless mnemonic tricks to try to read the notes. Every single part of your body is engaged to make that piano sing; your fingers must move independently; your hands, arms, shoulders, and back must supply the weight to depress the keys; your feet must push the pedals, and...show more content... Without my parents pushing and forcing me to continue my musical studies, I wouldn't have continued playing. And then, when I was about eight or nine, something started to happen. I didn't have to use a stopwatch to make sure I had practiced enough. I could start to read the notes without using any memorization tools, and, I actually began to enjoy my practice. Now, at fifteen, nobody has to force me to practice anymore. Out of my own accord, I take several hours out of every day to pursue this art that I've been chasing for ten years. I enjoy it, I live in it, and it has become an inseparable part of me. This art has taken me places and introduced me to people I would never have met without music. • 9. Personal Growth in College Essay So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult. First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I say I have to get study habits. I high school I never studied, because everything came so easy to me and I could just...show more content... That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus. Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school; you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second year I understand what I have to do to finish school. I understand more and more why education is a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change your game plan to get where you want to be in life. In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Why I Chose When Attending A Small College Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. West Hills Coalinga has the same opportunities all colleges have, but not only that, you can save yourself many personal and financial expenses as well. A lot of people say that you have better opportunities going to a big college than going to a small college, but I believe attending a small town college is better at least for me. • 13. Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the have to go to college because, "it...show more content... They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. • 14. College Admissions Essay: The LGBT Community College Essay Throughout my life I have experienced many things that have molded me into the person I am today, but the one I find most profound involves my coming out as a member of the LGBT+ community. As a child I suffered tremendously with confusion, self hatred, and misunderstanding about my own sexuality. Growing up queer in a small town is never an easy thing. I went through years of denial, and hid all of my thoughts about what I thought could be. I was so muddled in an all too common train of thought that my first conclusion was that I was incapable of loving another human being. Having never experienced honest crushes or any emotional or physical attraction to the opposite sex, I was very frightened for my ability to one day have a family. This thought put me into a mode of paranoia and panic. I began to search any place I could for any other possibility, hoping for some form of medication or therapy to ail me of what I thought was a mental illness. After only a few minutes at the computer, I realized there was nothing wrong with my mind, or capability to love. I am just gay. After this realization, I was still confused and upset as to why I am the way that I am. I questioned if that was actually the solution or if it was just me...show more content... About 3 months after being freed of such horrible denial, I entered my first, and hopefully only, homosexual relationship. While I was ecstatic about this and ready to scream it out to the world, my mom was not. I came out to my mother about 4 months after being in this new relationship, and she was distraught. She still loved me, but was heartbroken by the fact that I didn't turn out to be the daughter she expected. I had hidden my true self from her for years, and she was angry. That first night of her knowing was horrible. I stayed with my grandmother, who i had come out to months before, and just prayed she would calm down Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. My College Experience Essay examples My College Experience Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content... I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. My Journey to College Essay My Journey to College I first came to the university during spring break of my junior year of high school. At the time I was just visiting the three main universities in Arizona so that I would be able to make an educated decision as to where I wanted to get my college education. There were many events showing me the way to this university and little did I know that these events would come upon me and that they would show me the doors to the place where I was truly meant to be. I had a small thought in mind of becoming a chef or something else in the hospitality field. My mom had heard about NAU's hospitality college and informed me that it was within the top ten. During our visit to NAU we met with and...show more content... I then had the dilemma of deciding which dorm I wanted to apply for. This was a large decision for me seeing as how I had never moved in my life and how this would be my new home for the next year. I chose Rielly Hall which was the best I could do by looking at pictures online. After being accepted my mom and I made another visit up to NAU so that I could see the university with different eyes, eyes that new this was where the journey of my life was heading next. We arrived at NAU and I was very excited to be on campus once again but with a completely new perspective. I met with an HRM advisor and talked a little more about the program. At that time I learned all about their study abroad program. From that information I decide that I wanted not to just be a hotel and restaurant major but that I wanted to be a full International Hospitality major. This was going to be a little more work than my original plan but I would get to study abroad and experience so much culture. After my meeting with the HRM advisor we headed over to the dorms to check them out. I ended up walking past Sechrist Hall first and was approached by an NAU student who seemed to be about a Junior and was an RA on one of the floors. As he approached me he said "Would you like me to show you around the building". Even Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. My Experience In A College Class "Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. College Level Reflection Paper While registering for a college–level course, last year, I questioned how difficult the class would be. I had taken a course the previous semester that had covered the basics in business and economy, yet this would be the first course in English–a topic that I had been told, on many occasions, that I excelled in. Because of this, I came into this year's English class confident and sure that I would receive top marks easily. Unfortunately, it was not so. I struggled through several of the assignments given to me, yet I learned several new techniques and gained insight in what a college–level essay truly consists of. Because of this class, I learned of the importance of transitions between points, the importance of reducing wordiness in sentences, and the importance of explaining information and quotations fully. Over the course of this class, my essays have changed and improved in the way of transitions. At the beginning of the semester, I wrote an introductory reflective essay that covered how I felt about reading or writing. While I enjoyed researching and thinking over the topic thoroughly, the actual act of writing it went poorly, according to the feedback I received from my teacher. The paper was riddled with pencil marks describing issues, the most prevalent of these being transitions between points and paragraphs. I had been previously taught to write a sentence at the end of a paragraph explaining all that I covered in it, to sum it up. Unfortunately, academic, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Expectations And Expectations In College Expectations and Goals As a new freshman, the next four years of my life can seem extremely daunting, with huge possibilities as to the kind of person that I want to be when I graduate. College is known as a transformation period in the life of a young adult, and I hope to take full advantage of this time. By setting expectations and goals for myself, hopefully I can be successful as I seek out the person that God wants me to be. I have set up, and outlined, academic, spiritual, and personal goals to achieve my first semester here at college. For this semester, I have set a high expectation for myself academically. Specifically, I would like to be able to maintain all A's, and therefore a 4.0 GPA. If I am able to do this, and possibly continue it on through all eight semesters of my college career, I will be a more competitive applicant for PA school, or med school, or whatever post undergraduate schooling that my future entails. Not only would achieving this goal be beneficial to my future career, I hope to honor Christ by working hard in everything that I do, and this is one way that I can do that. This goal is measurable because I can regularly check my grades to make sure that I am staying on track with each class to attain this goal. I believe that getting all A's is also achievable is I remained focused and driven, delegating ahead of time the study time that I will need to be successful in each of my classes. For each hour that I spend in a class, I will plan on spending at least three hours outside of class with the covered material to be successful. This can be realistic if I am careful to make sure that I don't commit myself too heavily to extracurricular activities. While I will be checking my grades weekly, half–way through the semester I will evaluate my study strategies, and whether they were successful or need to be changed to stay on target. Ultimately, I would like to see myself meet this goal at the end of the semester and carry the habits that I have learned to the rest of my college career. Spiritually, I know that this time is quintessential in the establishing of my faith and walk with Christ. My goal is to set habits and practices for myself that will help me grow spiritually.
