3. CYBERBULLYING
 Definition:The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by
sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.
 For example:
 Mean text or email messages
 Posting pictures with intent to embarrass a person
 Posting information or messages online to spread rumors or gossip

4. CYBERBULLYING
 As technology advances, our electronic devices have
become an important part of every day life…
Internet searches for answering questions, googling information, checking email,
social media sites, video games, snapchat, instant messaging, typing homework,
researching topics,YouTube sensations, Facebook, Instagram…
 There are now countless ways of using technology, and cyberbullying continues to
be a problem on the rise.

5. CYBERBULLYING
 Be aware that the school can get involved with bullying cases online or with any
type of bullying. If the problem is causing a disruption at school, even if it
happened off campus, the school can intervene.
 It is a safe school violation. Do NOT think, at any time, it is appropriate to
threaten, harass, humiliate, or harm others on social media or through
technology.
 It can be considered criminal. Even at your age, you can be charged with a crime if
the cyber bullying includes realistic threats or harm.

 What should you do if you are being cyber bullied?

7. WHAT CANYOU DO?
 If you are the victim of cyber bullying, here are some things you can do:
 1. Don’t respond back to the bullying (don’t give them a reaction or get yourself in trouble for
an emotionally charged reaction).
 2. If it comes from an anonymous person or number, block it.You don’t need to get more
exposure to those types of messages.
 3. Keep the post, picture, text, etc. Evidence to prove the threat or harassment against you.
 4. If it was done on a social media site, REPORT IT!They have the discretion to remove posts
and even close accounts if people have violated their policies.
 5. Report this to your parents or a trusted adult.You can talk with the resource officer at school,
counselor, principal, teacher, etc.

8. BE SMART…
 Be very selective about what you put on social media.You don’t want to put
something out there that others can use against you. A good rule of thumb is…
whatever you say or post… make sure you’d be comfortable if your parents saw it.
 Make a choice right now, that you will not involve yourself in bullying behaviors.
 Be aware that cyber bullying can be considered a crime.
 You can also be charged for a crime for being involved in sexting –
 Whether you are sending pictures of yourself, or on the receiving end of getting it from
another person, sending/receiving sexually explicit materials is illegal.
All of you are minors and it is against the law. Don’t ever get pressured
by anyone to send something you shouldn’t.

9. BULLYING PREVENTION…
Let’s all do a better job of preventing any type of bullying. Don’t let it happen. Stick
up for your peers. Any kind of bullying is unacceptable.When someone stands up
for another person, it is an immediate cue to the bully to STOP! It is an immediate
sense that the bullying will not be supported or allowed by others.
Don’t stand by. Don’t be a part of bullying.

10. IT DOES CONCERNYOU!
 Here’s what you can do:
 Ignore the bully as much as you can.
 Walk with others in a group so you are not alone.
 Tell the bully to STOP. Let them know you don’t like what they are doing and they need
to stop.
 Stand up for yourself andANYONE being bullied.
 Report it to a trusted adult.There are many people who can talk to you about what to
do and who to talk to. Officer Malan, Mrs. Roane, Mrs.VandenBosch, any of your
teachers.

11. BE A LITTLE MORE KIND!
 What influence can you be on other people?
 Let’s all be a little more kind. Do something nice for others. Give compliments.
Offer to sit with someone new. Introduce yourself to the new student. Go the
extra mile to make someone’s day. Smile.Treat others with respect. Pay it
forward. Be a ray of sunshine in the world.
