2. Back Ground
This Issue goes back almost 2 decades or more in Cambodia
Genocide
Abusive Generals were in charge or keeping order in the regime
3. Who is this about?
This is about the Pm of Cambodia Hun Sen
4. What is this about?
Pm Hun Sen is defiant and states the the countries sovereignty should not be diminished
by other countries and that they must be strong in the face of the newly imposed tariffs and
sanctions the EU states they will place on cambodia in 12 months unless cambodia dose
something about their human rights violations.
5. The issue with this.
Iff the EU hits Cambodia with the new sanctions it will hurt the textile industry
Textiles, footwear, and garments = 40%of Cambodia's GDP (Sugar could also be hit)
Also almost 800,000 jobs are dependent on this field of work and if less is sold then less
money is made to pay the workers, or supply them with jobs
6. To Summarize...
The Eu is threatening Cambodia with sanctions and tariffs if cambodia doesn't
clean up its act with human rights. Pm Hun Sen is defiant and says his country's
sovereignty is more important than the human rights, and his country must be strong in the
face of trade sanctions and tariffs. These Trade punishments could be hazardous to
cambodian trade or clothings, and cost some people there jobs.
7. Thought Provoking Question...
How would you react if your country's sovereignty was encroached on by an outside party
for something you caused?
