Abstract :
This paper tries to describe the traditional mechanism for
conflict settlement Aljoudia as a keeper of social peace in
Darfur, then investigate the reasons behind preventing it from
playing its appropriate role in the recent times where conflicts
restart even after reconciliations. The study focused mainly on
interviews with Ajaweeds (Joudia members) of El-fasher. The
study concluded to the results that the death of wise elderly
Ajaweeds, the disrespect by new generations and the
government interventions made of it a weak institution. But, due
to the vast areas where people live in scattered communities, and
the great differences in tribal and societal traditions and customs,
Joudia remains an important institution.
