3. INTRODUCTION
The Smart Energy Meter is the future energy meter that will
help us for managing our energy use . It itself can’t save energy
but it can give us a visualization of energy that we are using at
any instant of time. This may lead us to save energy, which is the
demand of the present generation.

ADC
Simple resistors dividers are used as voltage sensors.
AC main voltage is divided down to fit the input range of ADC of
Energy measurement chip.
17. ENERGY METERING IC
• These have DSP to perform signal conditioning and
energy calculation.
• They provide active, reactive and apparent energy,
frequency measurement.

20. CONCLUSION
Smart energy meter is an advanced electric meter that identifies
consumption in more detail than a conventional meter and optionally
communicates that information via some network system back to the
distribution company and user for monitoring and billing purpose.
Smart energy meters are often combined with modern
communication technologies thus enabling cost effective mode of
meter reading. It curbs power theft, improves regulation and allows
transparency enhancement.
The core benefits of smart energy meters can be fully realized
with proper installation and timely updating of newer technologies.
