2. INTRODUCTION
• Electrical meter is a device that measures the amount of electrical energy consumed by a
residence
• In utility distribution system, electricity metering plays an important role, as it measures the
electricity consumption of users and generates bill, which is a source of revenue.
• the conventional electromechanical meters are being replaced by new electronic meters to
improve accuracy in meter reading. Still, the Ghana power distribution sector faces a serious
problem of low revenue collection for the actual electric energy supplied owing to energy
thefts through bypass from digital meter.

3. PROBLEM STATEMENT
• The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) loses GH¢3.2 billion revenue to power theft, as reveled
by Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Energy.
• A more reliable solution is needed to ensure efficient and cost-effective inspections so that meter
theft can be detected and resolved in a more timely and effective manner.
• Detection Methods:
- Human Inspection is an ineffective and unreliable means of detecting illigal connections,
meter tempering, and meter bypassing.
4. AIM
It is our aim to design a theft dectection system consisting of Arduino microcontroller, Limit switch,
Global System for Mobile communication(GSM module) that will detects meter thefts and send alerts
to the electricity company.
5. OBJECTIVES
The following objectives will be achieved:
• To detect the theft of electrical energy using a microcontroller.
• To construct a GSM communication system to send theft and illegal connection alerts

7. METHODOLOGY
To enhance the robustness of the meter theft
dection system,the system starts by
interracting with the environment by collecting
data, interpretes the data to detect if the meter
has been tempered with. if it detects that the
meter has been tempered. the microcontroller
issue commands to the GSM to send alerts

Initialize Sensors
Read Sensor Data
Detect Meter tempering
Issue Command to GSM
8. METHODOLOGY
To after decting that the meter has been
tempered. the microcontroller issues a
command to the GSM connected. The GSM
send the alert containg the meter id (meter
number) to the electricity company
SENDING ALERTS

Detect Meter Tempering
Get Meter ID
Send Alert
End Process
10. COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM
COMPONENTS USED:
Arduino Microcontroller Jmper Cables Junction Box
BreadBoard Batteries GSM module
For implementing the
software program
For easy connections between
different components without
the need for soldering
to connect components
on a breadboard For housing of wires
and components
For sending alerts of
meter tempering
For supplying power

14. A theft detection system consisting of Arduino microcontroller, Limit switch, Global System for
Mobile Communication(GSM module). The Limit switch detects meter tempering and sends alert to
the Electiricity Company which will contain the meter number for easy tracking and identiification
• After testing the the system was able to detect meter tempering and send alerts
• This project will go a long way to help the Electricity company in Ghana to crack down on power
theft. this will inturn reduce revenue losses for utilities by detecting and preventing power theft.
• This project grid reliability by contributing in solving problems such as overloaded transformers
and voltage imbalances
PROPOSE SYSTEM RESULT
16. • It is our vision to create a more efficient and cost-effective theft detection system
for the Electricity company in Ghana
• Through effective detection, power theft can be reduced drastically in the the
country
CONCLUSION
Future Work
• Add a billing system to enable costomer to pay their areas
