Business Analytics in E-commerce
Introduction
 I am an aggressive buyer online. I usually shop thrice
a week, and i am always fascinated on how the
company always recommends things of my interest.
 Now i actually found out how. They have an analytics
team that actually with the help of cookies track what
all you do on the website.
Role of Analytics in E-Commerce
 The major objective of the E-Commerce industry is
to make user experience on their website is more
efficient and uninterrupted . Other than this they are
basically just a platform between sellers and buyers.
With high focus and precision on user experience,
analytics itself becomes a product instead of just
being business enabler. For example as i gave about
recommendations [Recommender Engines you see
on Amazon sidebar is a classic product]. Now, we can
appreciate the much broader role of analytics in E-
Commerce industry.
Various Functions for Analytics in E-
Commerce Industry
 Supply Chain Management.- This is where
tracking of the shipment, return/replacement
policies take place.
 Merchant Analytics- This is where with the help
of analytics the portal redirects you to the right page
by which the merchant grows due to sales and also
the e-commerce company.
 Recommender Systems- Like YouTube e-
commerce companies use these engines so as to help
the audience to get the right products.

 Product specific analytics- The analysts’ work on the
Satisfaction rate of customers for a product, forecast of
sales for a product etc.
 Online Marketing Analytics-The online marketing
team generally works on bidding for ads on Google or
other websites. They analyze the funnel of new prospect
customers and maximize the likelihood of a customer
clicking an ad .
 User Experience Analytics- This probably is the
biggest task for analytics in E-Commerce industry. This
part is where the entire customer retention game is
played out.The team primarily works on creating the
right architecture of the website.

I usually shop thrice a week, and i am always fascinated on how the company always recommends things of my interest.  Now i actually found out how.   • 3. Role of Analytics in E-Commerce  The major objective of the E-Commerce industry is to make user experience on their website is more efficient and uninterrupted . Other than this they are basically just a platform between sellers and buyers.
