Studying in India is a great
decision. But when you
arrive, it is a whole new
world to discover and thus I
would suggest you follow few
things which will help you in
settle smoothly in your new
city and focus more on your
" studying ". they are quick,
easy and simple to
understand and follow.
10 Amazing Do’s and Don’ts
when Studying in India:
Quick, Simple and Easy
Do’s before you arrive in India
1)Do Research on your City: When you have selected a particular University
from India and got admission first thing to do is check the city which the
University is situated in and do a basic research about the climate, general
surrounding etc. Since India is a diverse country and has all types of
climatic conditions from snow to desert you need to know which city you
would be living in to pack your basics accordingly.
2)Download helpful APP’s in your phone before arriving in India:Update
your phone and download few helpful apps before you leave your home. We
would be coming up with a separate blog post for the list of apps but few are
mentioned below:
 WhatsApp/ Viber (For calling back home)
 maps.me (offline maps) which can help you even when you don't have the
network on your phone
 Uber / Ola for taxi services
 Times news app
 Just Dial for local directory
Don'ts before you arrive in India
3) Pack your bag practically: Pack your bags according to your location if you are going
to live in northern India it is cold pack accordingly if in the south it is hot pack
accordingly even do some research on weather since India has 3 seasons pack
accordingly.
 Don’t overload yourself with Body wash, shampoos, conditioners more than a weeks
requirement since in every city of India all international and local brands are available at
your disposal.
 Don’t pack heavy winter jackets though it may look great and different but India is not
freezing cold as it is in the US or Europe or other parts of the world.
 Don’t carry appliances to India they are useless since there is the difference in voltage
and types of plugs.
4) Don’t forget to make a budget: You cannot make a full proof budget before arriving in
India, but if you have an approx budget you can have a clear plan where you need to
spend and where you need not according to your budget and help you curtail you from
buying unnecessary things.
Do’s When you arrive in India
4) Keep yourself welcoming and open: Indian culture is quite different from
the whole world there are a lot of differences in way of living, food etc. Don’t
judge and compare your new place with your hometown you may get
discomfort because everyone likes his or here hometown. Try to explore the
city and get acquainted with locals.
5) Do Make your final budget: When you arrive in India once you are settled
in a week or two make your final whole year budget, so you can plan many
things like your weekend parties, traveling nearby etc.
6) Do try local food: Indian food is world famous for its curries and variety,
and where can you try better than in India itself. You can definitely love local
food and even try the street food which will also not burden your pocket. Try
to adapt local food as your staple food since it will be cheaper and pocket-
friendly.
Don'ts When you arrive in India
7) Don’t make Phone / Laptop your life: Try to explore your new city don't try to keep yourself updated
all the time about your hometown by chatting with your friend back in your country or visiting social
media sites. Instead, try to explore the city on your own or make local friends from your college or
university who are local and ask them to show you their city. Who can be a better guide than your local
friend to help you explore the city?
8) Don’t chat long hour’s on Phone: Again don't chat too long with your family and friends back in your
country, I don't mean not at all but not for hours and hours every day, that may make you homesick
and you will get distracted from your main aim of studying.
9) Don’t overdo anything and everything: Don’t overdo partying, traveling which you may get tempted
to since you have come to a different place but overriding it will distract from your main purpose of
being in India .i.e. Study in India.
10) Don’t leave your belongings unattended: Keeping your belongings unattended especially things
like your Mobile phone, your wallet, and other valuables will attract theft. Theft is not common
everywhere but that does not mean you keep your belongings carelessly and then blame others for
your misfortune.
