Why People Should Nap During The School Of Montgomery...
Most college students spend their time up all night studying, and they regret it the next morning
when they are struggling to stay awake from the lack of sleep. Along with this many students nap
during the day to make up for the loss of sleep. Many studies have found that napping can actually
improve moods, health, and academic performance. This is shown in different studies from surveys,
to testing different reactions and moods. All the way to actually providing students with a place to
nap. Napping can increase academic performance, mood, and have a positive effect on health. All of
these being reasons why people should nap. The main campus of Montgomery College, a
community college in a northern part of Washington, DC performed sample and then a study
method survey in October of 2007, where they found a correlation between the amount sleep people
get along with what time they get up and academic performance. They used a questionnaire–based
survey, getting 157 out of 170 back they found that, as stated by Eliassons in his Article, "There was
a significant difference in the timing of sleep between high and low academic performers"
(Eliasson). With that finding they were more focused on targeting sleep habits of students in
programs to increase academic performance. Along with this survey based study another university
performed something similar. A large southwestern university in October 2012 also performed a
survey based study. They got people to perform the survey

Persuasive Essay On Racism

The Racism
"I have a dream, a single dream, continue to dream. To dream of freedom, to dream of justice, to
dream of equality and hopefully no longer need to dream them." (King,1963).
The fight for freedom and equality of time before Rosa Parks defends her place in the front and
oldest of a Martin Luther King Jr. game inspired by Americans with her famous dream.
Throughout history, nations have described the guarantees and personal privileges of their citizens
and have defended them with force. However, a group of people who could not enjoy those rights
and guarantees also arrived in the country. Black Africans were transported against their will,
chained, to be sold as slaves and to work in the service of their masters, especially on the great
agricultural estates of the South.
First racial discrimination in the United States began with the introduction of African slaves to work
on the southern plantations. The first slaves arrived in America by accident. In 1607 in Jamestown,
Virginia, a corsair landed with about twenty blacks he had captured on a Spanish ship in the
Caribbean. African–American slaves were forced to work with an intensity that sometimes became
inhuman. In some states, laws known as slave codes authorize the application of terrible
punishments to undisciplined slaves. According to Virginia's slave code of 1705: "All black,
mulatto, and indigenous slaves in this domain .... If the slave

My Goals To Become An Elementary School Teacher
Trip to College It has been my dream since Elementary School to become an Elementary School
teacher. The decision to attend college has not always been an easy decision. I have many goals to
obtain my college degree. I have had many conversations about attending college. Some
conversations being very helpful and persuasive, some being very negative and nerve wrecking. The
school that I chose to attend in the end was Alabama State University. I promised myself that this
school will make me the best teacher since I chose my favorite teacher. Choosing my career, that
was not entirely easy. Back in Elementary School, I had a couple of teachers that were very good to
me. They are who began to make my mind think and wonder about if this job would make a good
career for me. It was not only my Elementary School teachers who helped convince me. There were
some middle school teachers and a couple high school teachers who persuaded me. These teachers
taught me with passion in their hearts. There was nothing but patience and love in their teaching.
They taught me the different ways you can teach and get the lesson across to your students. I have
kept their ways of teaching in mind for the days when it is time to work towards my degree.
Watching my different teachers over the years have given me different reasons to want this career.
Becoming what I wanted to be was the main goal. The goal was always to become what I wanted to
no matter what it took. Being a teacher, I knew would be a

Why Iceland Is Considered One Of The Safest Countries
On Earth there are one hundred ninety–five countries, and they are very diverse. There are hundreds,
if not thousands of religions in the world. Many countries have the same religion but there can be a
major difference between them. Religion is not the only difference between countries, including
food, laws, healthcare, cultural beliefs, weather, and the list goes on and on. There is no difference
when it comes to comparing the community in my home town, Akureyri, and Faulkner's community.
When I came to Faulkner I got a shock, and I know now why Iceland is considered one of the safest
countries in the world.
In Iceland the main religion is Christianity. The population of three hundred thirty thousand, divides
up in to, 80% Christianity and 20% that have other religion, or are atheist. According to a survey
from 2010, the average Icelander goes to church four times every year. Counting every time they go
to a funeral, wedding, confirmation and baptism. At Faulkner University I would say that at least
one–third of students here go to church every Sunday. Icelandic education system is put up so that
every child learns about Christianity. Addition to that they have to learn the foundation of main
religions in the world; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. In Iceland an ethics class is
mandatory, we learn that there is nothing that says that we are any better than the rest of the world.
Nothing says that our believes, and culture is more correct than in other countries.

The Importance Of Going To Montgomery College
As long I can remember, my parents believed education was key to everything great in life. I grew
up in a small town in Girgi, Ethiopian. My father was the only electrician in the neighborhood. He
was the person that everyone would come to when they needed any electronic devices to be fixed. It
was very exciting when someone brings there broken divice to our house. I vividly remember many
nights that we spend fixing up TV's, VHS and DVD players. I used to think that it was very
interesting looking at the circuit boards wondering what any of the colorful doted do, and how can
makes up to a TV or radio. Thus, when the time comes to choose a major that I wanted pursue, it
was an easy decision for me. The first time that I had the chance to learn about it was my first two
months of college in Ethiopia, but it was short lived because my family had the opportunity to come
to America for a better life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personal Narrative: Changing My Career At Montgomery College
During the past three years at Montgomery College, I can say that I've changed my major about ten
times. At first it was from becoming an obstetrician, to midwife, pediatric nurse, social worker,
ultrasound technician, school counselor and the list goes on, but I'll stop here before I bored you. It
is now my last semester at Montgomery College and I realized after changing my major so many
times, there was one thing that every single one of these careers had in common. Working with
mothers to be and infants, I said to myself "this is my passion". As I was doing my research, I came
across the topic of "maternal and child health" and under that topic the university of Maryland at

Examples Of Bravery In To Kill A Mockingbird
True bravery is standing up for what you believe in. Does anyone else agree with that statement?
Everyone is born with true bravery but it's up to them if they will show it and a couple did. For
example Atticus Finch and Martin Luther king jr, they both stood up for what they believe in and
what was right. They never backed down they had the confidence to stand up and they did, stood tall
and brave. Atticus Finch stood up for Tom Robinson. Martin Luther King Jr stood up for black
rights. Rosa Parks, a very courageous woman in the civil rights. Tom Robinson was also a brave
person. He shows courage on the witness stand. These people showed great courage because they

Analysis Of The Book ' Malcolm Gladwell '
When thinking of successful people you automatically think about how hard people have worked to
be successful. In the Outliers book "Malcolm Gladwell" argues that we should look at the world that
surrounds successful people. For instance their culture, family, experiences, and their upbringing.
Gladwell has made an interesting argument about how people become successful. In this paper, I
will be talking about how Bradley Byrne, US Representative for Alabama became successful using
some information from Gladwell's arguments.
Gladwell wants to convince readers that different kinds of explanations of success don 't work,
people rise from nothing. It really makes a difference where and when people grew up. He says, "it

served on the Alabama State School Board. Being a chancellor of the Alabama Department of
Postsecondary Education, he served as the chief executive officer of Alabama 's two–year college
system. The system was full of many problems. It needed many changes to return to the important
mission of educating students and preparing them for the workforce.
Bradley 's efforts have been very successful. Working with a dedicated team, the two–year college
system was restored and the ongoing effort to serve students and the people of Alabama has been
refocused to its proper goals. In his role as Chancellor, Bradley also served as Chairman of the State
Workforce Planning Council. He oversaw all of Alabama 's workforce development efforts. This
gives him an understanding of the state 's ability to expand the workforce by encouraging a business
climate that creates good jobs.
In 2013 Byrne was elected to congress. In Congress, Byrne thinks of himself as an effective
legislator by successfully supporting people 's local interests. Byrne has worked really hard to

Analysis Of The March By John Lewis
The graphic novel trilogy, The March, tells a series of events that happen in John Lewis's life for the
better and for the worse. Throughout the books, he is faced with challenges that test his ability to
stay true to his beliefs. When Lewis was a child, he received his first Bible from his uncle which
was what sparked his heavy faith in God. During his spiritual journey, he began to listen to the
teachings of MLK Jr. who impacted his life greatly. Lewis became the SNCC's newest executive
coordinating committee which opened his eyes to all the violence that was really apparent at the
time. John Lewis, even from a very young age wanted to become a preacher. "I'll never forget my

He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, today. It was called the social
gospel... and I felt like he was preaching directly to me." (Lewis and Aydin 1:56). MLK Jr. sparked
John Lewis's love to fight for what's right to him personally, for example, his acceptance into Troy
State. "But if you want to go, we'll help... we'll raise the money to file those suites, and we'll support
you all the way. But you must keep in mind... your parents could lose their jobs. Your family home
could be bombed or burned." (Lewis and Aydin 1:71). He and MLK Jr. worked on many projects
together as it was in both of their interests. Lewis became very involved with non–violent protesting
and everything MLK Jr. introduced him to. Everything the two of them did was always associated
with the teachings of Christ. "His words liberated me. I thought this is it... this is the way out."
(Lewis and Aydin 1:78). MLK Jr. was in charge of a group called SNCC. In that group, he dealt with
the religious aspects of the racism in the country. John Lawson was asked to become head of the
executive coordinating committee which meant he would be even more involved in the group. "I
saw myself as a doer. I never had any thoughts of being chairman... and I was elected chairman of
SNCC." (Lewis and Aydin 2:142). He went to campaign after campaign and gathered the knowledge
that things were only getting more and more violent. "The black masses are restless, Mr. President...

Billy Cheeseburger
Do you want to hear a story? Oh, you're going to hear a story alright a story that you will most likely
think of your whole life. This is the story of Billy Cheeseburger.
I grew up in Southern Alabama as a slave to an extremely rude owner with my mother in the 1840s.
We tried escaping hundreds of times, but we always managed a way to get caught. Due to our
relentless efforts in trying to escape, we would get whipped extremely hard, but I didn't care as long
as I was with my momma I knew that I was safe. Then that terrible day happened our owner
informed us there was a slave auction in Montgomery Alabama, 10 miles away from our home in
Richmond, Alabama. Like any other greedy white man, our owner came to my momma and told her
that she was going to be auctioned for money. Oh how much I cried that day. That night I tried
convincing my mother to escape in the morning and go to Fort Washington which was right across
Montgomery but my momma just wouldn't budge. She said that "They will find me and try and sell
me to another owner far away from you and you know yo momma can't run fast". To make me
happy, my momma told me that she was just going to be gone for a few weeks and that she will
eventually come back and that the two of us will escape to Fort Washington.
The Decision
I went with my momma to the auction where there were a lot of white men shouting about how
much money they would spend for a certain slave. My momma was up next for auctioning she said

Rosa Parks And The Freedom Movement Essay
Segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other or thing or being
set apart. Segregation started in 1867 . Segregation is hard to deal with. At this time African
Americans did not have as much freedom as they do now. They had to basically walk around on
eggs shells because if they did not it could have got them into big trouble. They did not have any
rights they would be taken to prison for a simple thing of standing up for the right that they "were
born" with. A person who had a lot to do with the change of that time is Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was
born February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her full name Rosa Louise McCauley. Her mother a
teacher and her father was a carpenter. At the age of 2 years old she was baptized which led to her
growing up a devoted member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rosa grew up a sick
child. She used Christian hymns to comfort her. At a young age she would memorize bible verses
and quote them. "God is everything to me" Rosa grew up in the center of segregation in the south

Comparison Of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr And Wallace's Speech
It was the was the beginning of a new decade, Americans believed the 1960's were going to be the
dawn of the golden age. Many historical feats are occurring, John Steinbeck wins a noble peace
prize, Nixon and Kennedy have the first televised debate, Mohamed Ali wins a gold medal and the
Civil Rights Movement is at the precipice in America. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Governor
George C. Wallace are two prominent figures throughout the Civil Rights Movement. Individually,
they deliver historical speeches concerning civil rights, however the dialogue encompasses
completely different messages. Comparatively, the two speeches will be presented side by side using
Aristotle's, Kairos, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. The year was 1963, as the chaos of segregation was
unfolding in the Southern states, Governor Wallace and Dr. King were prepared to give their speech
on Civil Rights. Governor Wallace will be addressing his constituents in the beginning of the year,
whereas Dr. King's response will be a few months later. With that in mind, these two speeches will

Rosa Parks once said, "Each person must live their life as a model for others." On December 1,
1955, Rosa Parks was a model for everyone. She is an important figure in American History, she

up for her rights. One day when Rosa Parks came back home from work on the Cleveland Avenue

"We are not going to give them our dimes to be insulted and humiliated, said Martin Luther King Jr,

Rosa Parks was well known, so when Martin Luther King Jr heard that Mrs. Parks went to jail he
called for a meeting at his church, they were talking about how they wanted things to change but
everyone was scared. Everyone gave up except for Dr. King, he thought they could do a boycott, so
they will refuse to ride the busses until something will change.

on buses because if you're white then that means you are rich at that time, so the boycott caused the
city a lot of money because most people who ride on the buses are African Americans. African
Americans who worked for white people refused to show up for work unless they paid for their ride.
"Police cars and motorcycles followed the buses periodically after an operator reported that two rifle
pellets struck the back of his coach." (San Antonio Register, Vol. 25, No. 44) African Americans, so
they caused more problems for busses. They wanted to get back at the white people for what they

Marches: Popular And Effective Methods Of Protest
There are many ways to protest and there are many outcomes of the protests. Marches, Sit–ins, and
Boycotts are all very effective methods of protests. There are many reasons why these methods of
protest are effective. These include the amount of people that are involved, the amount of attention
they create, and by sending the companies broke. By using these protests, the effectiveness of them
has shaped American history and the protests are still remembered today. Marches are a very
popular and effective method of protest because they attract attention and some are still remembered
today. Marches are an effective method of protest because of the amount of people they attract,
especially when they attract political attention. Martin Luther King Jr used this method of protest in
the very historic and popular march which was the March on Washington,1963, for jobs and
freedom. The image: "Civil Rights March on Washington D.C." (source 5) which is the birds eye
view shot of the march shows how effective the march was due to the crowd and the amount of
people that participated in the march which you can see in the photo. The amount of people that
participated in the march is a very important component to why this march was so effective and
popular. This is because, the more people who participate, the more attention the event will receive
and that is how the world will notice the problem and give the time to improve it which is the main
goal when people start the marches. The

Dr. King and Governor Wallace, both use strong evidence to strengthen their credibility and appeal
to Ethos. Governor Wallace attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a law degree,
which soon after he joined the US Army Air Corp. and was involved in a combat mission over
Japan. Upon returning, he became an Assistant States Attorney, and later a judge of the Third
Judicial Circuit of Alabama. George C. Wallace, campaigned for the Governor's seat in Alabama and
much to his dismay, he lost to his opponent who was a segregationist. Be that as it may, four years
later his decision was to run again, but this time he was endorsed by the Ku Klux Klan, who helped
him obtain the Governorship.
Martin Luther King Jr., was from a middle–class family with strong Baptist beliefs. Surprisingly, at
the young age of 15, he attended Morehouse College and later enter Boston University. Dr. King

The Controversy Of Race And Authority
Has one ever felt disheartened watching the news and the headlines says that there was another
minority victim in an officer related shooting? Has one ever wondered why race versus authority is
such a huge problem? Has one ever asked how did society get this far as to physically harming law
enforcement? The answer is the media has allowed it to get this far. Race relations and authority has
been a deep rooted problem since the founding of this nation. By enslaving Africans and other
ethnicities, wealthy white forced them to long hard toils under the sun. Fast forward to the middle
19th century and those enslaved have been set free yet those people are still being oppressed. Fast

Not only that, but constantly churning out stories about the incident every hour until it ceases to
matter to them anymore. The media do not realize the problems created by the haphazard ways of
this kind of reporting. In the 1950's, media could be said as being the polar opposite of today.
The 1950's were a time in which televised news sources were not as frequent and plentiful as they
are now. One particular situation that needs to be pointed out happened right in the city of
Montgomery, known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, shows just how effective media can be when
the priority is to give the news without hyperbole or exaggeration. Going to Randall Kennedy's Yale
Law article, the writer describes the climate of the south at this time period "Segregation was a way
of life determined in large part by whites who virtually monopolized state power and used that
power to subjugate blacks. (Kennedy)" This is what minorities went through in the beautiful state of
Alabama. The media effectively allowed the visual representation of what was happening in
Montgomery at the time. Of course, there were some bias because of the majority white journalists
at the time, but it was difficult to state anything other than the truth with video evidence and picture
evidence proving the reality. Media is such a privilege in

The Civil Rights Movement : The New York Times Newspaper...
In 1960 the Civil Rights Movement was beginning to gain a lot strength. Many civil rights leaders
put a full–page ad in the New York Times newspaper company. The ad was to raise money to help
civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr. There were sixty popular
Americans who signed it. The ad put in the paper was describing how " an unprecedented wave of
terror" was rising with police actions against peaceful demonstrators in Montgomery,
Alabama. The ad was mostly accurate, but a few of the charges in it were not true. An example is
that the ad said police "ringed" a college campus where many protesters were, but this charge was
completely exaggerated. The ad also read the false statement: "When the entire student body

The background to New York Times v. Sullivan is pretty complex and has a lot to it. The city of
Montgomery, Alabama, was already considered to be in civic stress when The New York
Times published an ad by the name of "Heed Their Rising Voices" on March 29, 1960. February
25, about 35 students from the Alabama State College, which was an all–black school, were buying
food in a snack bar in the basement of the Montgomery County Courthouse. They were taken into
custody and arrested. The day after the arrest Governor John Patterson, who was once the officio
chairman for the state board of education, demanded for the expulsion of the African
American students from the public college. Two days after the expulsion almost all of the 800
students that attended Alabama State marched to the state capitol to protest against Patterson's
actions with the students. While state and Montgomery police stood by, members of the Ku Klux
Klan wielding baseball bats assaulted the students of the college. The attack was unpunished even
though the Montgomery Advertiser produced and printed pictures of the incident, with several
clearly identified members. (Urofsky pg. 2)

Why I Want To Attend Montgomery College
Growing up, I did not have a dream job in mind. Whenever someone asked me what I aspired to be,

Civil Rights Movement is at the precipice in America. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Governor
George C. Wallace are two prominent figures throughout the Civil Rights Movement. Individually,

Likewise, Dr. King stood in a place of great significance. Here, in front of the statue of President
Lincoln, is where he will present his infamous "I Have a Dream" speech and it is evident of the great
significance it represents. It was in 1863 that President Lincoln fought to abolish slavery and by
coincidence, one hundred years later, Dr. King will be addressing more than 200,000 demonstrators
fighting the same fight. On this day Dr. King will articulately responds to Governor Wallace's
speech that had taken place seven months prior. As the prominent Dr. King put it, "Now is the time
to make justice a reality for all of God's children" (archives.gov). In other words, Dr. King is stating,
that equality and fair justice should not be based on, ethnicity, color, or status, but in essence we are
all created equal and ought to live harmoniously. Throughout these two speeches, Dr. King and
Governor Wallace, both use strong evidence to strengthen their credibility and appeal to Ethos.
Comparatively, both men are well educated, from the South and are well respected within their
community. Governor Wallace was born a farmer's son in the year 1919. Though he received a law
degree from the University of Alabama, he joined the military and was involved in a combat mission
over Japan. Upon returning, he became an Assistant States Attorney, and later a judge of the Third

Black Seamstress : Rosa Parks And The Civil Rights Movement
By refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama, city bus in 1955, black
seamstress Rosa Parks (1913–2005) helped initiate the civil rights movement in the United States.
The leaders of the local black community organized a bus boycott that began the day Parks was
convicted of violating the segregation laws but are her effects held up today? I say yes Rosa Parks
would be happy in the way things changes because of the peaceful protest and the way the ¨whites¨
act.
Rosa McCauley was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on February 4, 1913. She moved with her parents,
James and Leona, to Pine Level, Alabama, at the age 2 to reside with Leona's parents.Rosa moved to
Montgomery, Alabama, at age 11 and eventually attended high school there, a laboratory school at
the Alabama State Teachers' College for Negroes. She left at 16, in 11th grade because she needed to
care for her grandmother and, shortly thereafter, her chronically ill mother. ¨In 1932, at 19, she
married Raymond Parks, a self–educated man 10 years her senior who worked as a barber and was a
long–time member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He
supported Rosa in her efforts to earn her high–school diploma, which she ultimately did the
following year.¨(Newsmakers) even at a young age of 19 she supported african American rights and
dedicated her life to education and caring for people but nothing prepared her for what was going to

The Rebellious Life Of Rosa Parks
I. Jim Crow was a big issue during Rosa Parks' life.
A. What were Jim Crow Laws? 1. Jim Crow Laws are define by the Dictionary.Reference As the
"practice or policy of segregating or discriminating against blacks, against public places, public
vehicles, or employment." 2. Now what was exactly bad about the Laws in the first place? How
could you imagine what life was like for African American people during the early 20th Century
during Rosa Parks' time?
B. Why were the laws wrong?
1. According to an article on the site U–S–History.com, Jim Crow Laws were made to have
"separate but equal" treatment to blacks. Though the treatment was not equal in anyway. They were
treated inferior in many ways.

Rosa Parks help bring together the movement and helped concentrate it as well.
1. The last document about the arrest records also speaks on what happened shortly after her arrest.
Now it says "Mrs. Parks was active in the local National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP), serving as secretary to E.D. Nixon, president of the Montgomery
chapter." Now because of her position in the NAACP, the arrest was heard by most of the members.
It also states Martin Luther King Jr came to join in with the movement as well.
2. Now Martin Luther King later on became one of the most important figures of the Civil Rights
Movement and originally he came to help after hearing Parks was arrested. Rosa Parks had an
interview telling how the public response was. She stated "It was put in the paper that I had been
arrested." She then spoke on the fact that once people found out the leader of the NAACP E.D.

said was to, 4 days after her arrest, "stay off in large numbers and did not ride the bus" That then

American Revolution Research Paper

American Revolution: Aaron Burr
Aaron Burr contributed to the American Revolution by being George Washington's aide in the
Continental Army. He graduated from the New Jersey College, or what is now known as Princeton
University, at age 17 and used his intelligence to help Washington in the war. Also, he joined the
Continental Army in 1775 and soon had distinguished himself during the Patriot attack on Quebec.
He is credited with trying to evacuate the body of General Richard Montgomery who was killed in
action. Later after the war, he defeated Alexander Hamilton's father–in–law in a race for Senate,
which made Alexander angry and caused him to turn on him. He also served as a state attorney in
1790, lost against Jefferson in a race for vice presidency due to Alexander's actions in 1796, and
eventually returned to the New York Assembly.
Aaron was one of the most brilliant graduates to come from New Jersey College, or what is now
known as Princeton University. He at first went to college for theology at the age 13, but then later
changed his career to studying law as he got older. He then joined the Continental Army as an

Educates readers about Civil Rights movement events from the past, and the effects of social media
in today's time. Technology has evolved over the years, giving birth to social media. Social media is
wonderful for a lot of things, but is social media an effective resource for activism? In the article,
Gladwell starts off by telling the story about four friends. Their names were David Richmond,
Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, and Joseph McNeil. The four friends were freshmen of North

waitress replied "we don't serve negroes here". This statement started a civil rights movement. The
four students could of just left and found somewhere else to have lunch, but instead they returned on
the next day with Twenty–seven men and four women. They began to protest and preform a sit–in at

the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force for the white people. In the March

opposition and met with conflict, they continued their protests. The books and the movie displayed
conflict throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers
were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged
towards them, making this day known as "Bloody Sunday", March 7, 1965. When asked for his
comments in the movie by the press after the brutal attack on the marchers, King says "While
rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear

faced conflict as well, this time between Martin Luther King Jr, and the marchers themselves.

In the city many places are narrow and you have to build up. So to fit more cars into a small space
there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several
hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the
parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly. The driver would exit
the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A computer system then lifts the
car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their parking card into
a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the
driver can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to
break and steal your car. An additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for
students to park in parking garages in downtown Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by
the College to pick up students from the garage and at the end of the day the shuttle could bring the
students back to their cars. No solution goes without having its issues, whether it is structural,

Why People Should Nap During The School Of Montgomery...

  • 1. Why People Should Nap During The School Of Montgomery... Most college students spend their time up all night studying, and they regret it the next morning when they are struggling to stay awake from the lack of sleep. Along with this many students nap during the day to make up for the loss of sleep. Many studies have found that napping can actually improve moods, health, and academic performance. This is shown in different studies from surveys, to testing different reactions and moods. All the way to actually providing students with a place to nap. Napping can increase academic performance, mood, and have a positive effect on health. All of these being reasons why people should nap. The main campus of Montgomery College, a community college in a northern part of Washington, DC performed sample and then a study method survey in October of 2007, where they found a correlation between the amount sleep people get along with what time they get up and academic performance. They used a questionnaire–based survey, getting 157 out of 170 back they found that, as stated by Eliassons in his Article, "There was a significant difference in the timing of sleep between high and low academic performers" (Eliasson). With that finding they were more focused on targeting sleep habits of students in programs to increase academic performance. Along with this survey based study another university performed something similar. A large southwestern university in October 2012 also performed a survey based study. They got people to perform the survey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Racism Gabriel Ramirez Teacher E. Saires Class ELA Grade 6 October 25, 2017 The Racism "I have a dream, a single dream, continue to dream. To dream of freedom, to dream of justice, to dream of equality and hopefully no longer need to dream them." (King,1963). The fight for freedom and equality of time before Rosa Parks defends her place in the front and oldest of a Martin Luther King Jr. game inspired by Americans with her famous dream. Throughout history, nations have described the guarantees and personal privileges of their citizens and have defended them with force. However, a group of people who could not enjoy those rights and guarantees also arrived in the country. Black Africans were transported against their will, chained, to be sold as slaves and to work in the service of their masters, especially on the great agricultural estates of the South. First racial discrimination in the United States began with the introduction of African slaves to work on the southern plantations. The first slaves arrived in America by accident. In 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia, a corsair landed with about twenty blacks he had captured on a Spanish ship in the Caribbean. African–American slaves were forced to work with an intensity that sometimes became inhuman. In some states, laws known as slave codes authorize the application of terrible punishments to undisciplined slaves. The decision to attend college has not always been an easy decision. I have many goals to obtain my college degree. I have had many conversations about attending college. Some conversations being very helpful and persuasive, some being very negative and nerve wrecking. The school that I chose to attend in the end was Alabama State University. I promised myself that this school will make me the best teacher since I chose my favorite teacher. Choosing my career, that was not entirely easy. Back in Elementary School, I had a couple of teachers that were very good to me. They are who began to make my mind think and wonder about if this job would make a good career for me. It was not only my Elementary School teachers who helped convince me. There were some middle school teachers and a couple high school teachers who persuaded me. These teachers taught me with passion in their hearts. There was nothing but patience and love in their teaching. They taught me the different ways you can teach and get the lesson across to your students. I have kept their ways of teaching in mind for the days when it is time to work towards my degree. Watching my different teachers over the years have given me different reasons to want this career. Becoming what I wanted to be was the main goal. The goal was always to become what I wanted to no matter what it took. Being a teacher, I knew would be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Why Iceland Is Considered One Of The Safest Countries On Earth there are one hundred ninety–five countries, and they are very diverse. There are hundreds, if not thousands of religions in the world. Many countries have the same religion but there can be a major difference between them. Religion is not the only difference between countries, including food, laws, healthcare, cultural beliefs, weather, and the list goes on and on. There is no difference when it comes to comparing the community in my home town, Akureyri, and Faulkner's community. When I came to Faulkner I got a shock, and I know now why Iceland is considered one of the safest countries in the world. In Iceland the main religion is Christianity. The population of three hundred thirty thousand, divides up in to, 80% Christianity and 20% that have other religion, or are atheist. According to a survey from 2010, the average Icelander goes to church four times every year. Counting every time they go to a funeral, wedding, confirmation and baptism. At Faulkner University I would say that at least one–third of students here go to church every Sunday. Icelandic education system is put up so that every child learns about Christianity. Addition to that they have to learn the foundation of main religions in the world; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. In Iceland an ethics class is mandatory, we learn that there is nothing that says that we are any better than the rest of the world. Nothing says that our believes, and culture is more correct than in other countries. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, when the time comes to choose a major that I wanted pursue, it was an easy decision for me. • 21. Analysis Of The March By John Lewis The graphic novel trilogy, The March, tells a series of events that happen in John Lewis's life for the better and for the worse. Throughout the books, he is faced with challenges that test his ability to stay true to his beliefs. When Lewis was a child, he received his first Bible from his uncle which was what sparked his heavy faith in God. During his spiritual journey, he began to listen to the teachings of MLK Jr. who impacted his life greatly. Lewis became the SNCC's newest executive coordinating committee which opened his eyes to all the violence that was really apparent at the time. John Lewis, even from a very young age wanted to become a preacher. "I'll never forget my mother reading aloud to me the first words in that book... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, today. It was called the social gospel... and I felt like he was preaching directly to me." (Lewis and Aydin 1:56). MLK Jr. sparked John Lewis's love to fight for what's right to him personally, for example, his acceptance into Troy State. "But if you want to go, we'll help... we'll raise the money to file those suites, and we'll support you all the way. But you must keep in mind... your parents could lose their jobs. Your family home could be bombed or burned." (Lewis and Aydin 1:71). He and MLK Jr. worked on many projects together as it was in both of their interests. Lewis became very involved with non–violent protesting and everything MLK Jr. introduced him to. Everything the two of them did was always associated with the teachings of Christ. "His words liberated me. I thought this is it... this is the way out." (Lewis and Aydin 1:78). MLK Jr. was in charge of a group called SNCC. In that group, he dealt with the religious aspects of the racism in the country. John Lawson was asked to become head of the executive coordinating committee which meant he would be even more involved in the group. "I saw myself as a doer. I never had any thoughts of being chairman... and I was elected chairman of SNCC." (Lewis and Aydin 2:142). This is the story of Billy Cheeseburger. I grew up in Southern Alabama as a slave to an extremely rude owner with my mother in the 1840s. We tried escaping hundreds of times, but we always managed a way to get caught. Due to our relentless efforts in trying to escape, we would get whipped extremely hard, but I didn't care as long as I was with my momma I knew that I was safe. Then that terrible day happened our owner informed us there was a slave auction in Montgomery Alabama, 10 miles away from our home in Richmond, Alabama. Like any other greedy white man, our owner came to my momma and told her that she was going to be auctioned for money. Oh how much I cried that day. That night I tried convincing my mother to escape in the morning and go to Fort Washington which was right across Montgomery but my momma just wouldn't budge. She said that "They will find me and try and sell me to another owner far away from you and you know yo momma can't run fast". To make me happy, my momma told me that she was just going to be gone for a few weeks and that she will eventually come back and that the two of us will escape to Fort Washington. The Decision I went with my momma to the auction where there were a lot of white men shouting about how much money they would spend for a certain slave. • 25. Rosa Parks And The Freedom Movement Essay Segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other or thing or being set apart. Segregation started in 1867 . Segregation is hard to deal with. At this time African Americans did not have as much freedom as they do now. They had to basically walk around on eggs shells because if they did not it could have got them into big trouble. They did not have any rights they would be taken to prison for a simple thing of standing up for the right that they "were born" with. A person who had a lot to do with the change of that time is Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was born February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her full name Rosa Louise McCauley. Her mother a teacher and her father was a carpenter. At the age of 2 years old she was baptized which led to her growing up a devoted member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rosa grew up a sick child. She used Christian hymns to comfort her. At a young age she would memorize bible verses and quote them. Many historical feats are occurring, John Steinbeck wins a noble peace prize, Nixon and Kennedy have the first televised debate, Mohamed Ali wins a gold medal and the Civil Rights Movement is at the precipice in America. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Governor George C. Wallace are two prominent figures throughout the Civil Rights Movement. Individually, they deliver historical speeches concerning civil rights, however the dialogue encompasses completely different messages. Comparatively, the two speeches will be presented side by side using Aristotle's, Kairos, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. The year was 1963, as the chaos of segregation was unfolding in the Southern states, Governor Wallace and Dr. King were prepared to give their speech on Civil Rights. Governor Wallace will be addressing his constituents in the beginning of the year, whereas Dr. King's response will be a few months later. With that in mind, these two speeches will be analyzed using the appropriate and pivotal moment they were delivered, also known as Kairos. January 1963, Governor Wallace is proudly standing where the President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis took his oath of office. Everyone gave up except for Dr. King, he thought they could do a boycott, so they will refuse to ride the busses until something will change. The 1950's were a time in which televised news sources were not as frequent and plentiful as they are now. One particular situation that needs to be pointed out happened right in the city of Montgomery, known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, shows just how effective media can be when the priority is to give the news without hyperbole or exaggeration. Going to Randall Kennedy's Yale Law article, the writer describes the climate of the south at this time period "Segregation was a way of life determined in large part by whites who virtually monopolized state power and used that power to subjugate blacks. (Kennedy)" This is what minorities went through in the beautiful state of Alabama. The media effectively allowed the visual representation of what was happening in Montgomery at the time. • 72. Selma Book Vs Book Essay The conflicts met between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people of the South were incredibly gruesome. While peace and equality for African Americans was the driving force of the protests, violence and inhuman resistance was the force for the white people. In the March Trilogy Books, written by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, and in the movie Selma, written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, we are given a glimpse of these troubling times during the 1960's. The tone was very dark, harsh, and violent. Because voting rights and equality were important to them, the mass of marchers continued their protests despite the beatings and cruelty they faced. Although there were horrendous acts made against the African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Where a crowd of resisters were waiting for them. Even though the marchers faced violent opposition and met with conflict, they continued their protests. The books and the movie displayed conflict throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged towards them, making this day known as "Bloody Sunday", March 7, 1965. When asked for his comments in the movie by the press after the brutal attack on the marchers, King says "While rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless, for we all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. I am appealing to men and women of God and goodwill everywhere, white, black and otherwise. If you believe all are created equal, come to Selma. Join us. Join our march against injustice and inhumanity. We need you to stand with us". The second attempt to cross the bridge on March 9, 1965 brought clergy, men, and women from all over to join. But faced conflict as well, this time between Martin Luther King Jr, and the marchers themselves. However, there was a major difference regarding this attempt to cross, between the books and the movie. In the books, the marchers were met on the bridge by a Federal Official who ... • 76. Montgomery College Student Parking Problem From my perspective as a Montgomery College student, the current parking situation has become a problem that needs to be addressed. On the west campus there is only one parking garage and there are not enough spaces for all of the students to park. Some students spend a lot of time circling around looking for a parking space. There is street parking, but students feel that they should not have to pay for parking. In order to get a parking spot, I have to arrive at around 8:00 AM even if my class isn't even until late morning. When I get to the parking garage at around 11:00 AM most of the spaces are filled, and the change – over of students has yet to occur. Students drive all the way to the top of the garage just to find that there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the city many places are narrow and you have to build up. So to fit more cars into a small space there are lifts. One kind of lift is called the Robotic Parking System. It enables parking from several hundred cars to several thousand in half the amount of space. A person would drive their car into the parking terminal, and sensors would ensure that the car was placed correctly. The driver would exit the vehicle, lock the doors and take a parking card from the kiosk. A computer system then lifts the car and places it on a shelving system. When one is ready to leave they place their parking card into a kiosk and the system locates their car and brings it down. The screen then displays where the driver can pick up their car. This also insures safe parking since it is impossible for someone to break and steal your car. An additional option that is probably the least expensive would be for students to park in parking garages in downtown Silver Spring. Shuttles buses could be provided by the College to pick up students from the garage and at the end of the day the shuttle could bring the students back to their cars. No solution goes without having its issues, whether it is structural, financial or aesthetic. Some of the solutions to expand the parking are more reasonable, while some will cost a pretty penny. Whichever proposal the college decides to go with will benefit the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
