2. Early Latin American politics The Spanish Military took over Latin America and thrived with powerful force in order to overtake land and communities. Iberians had long inhabited a frontier zone where differing cultures interacted. Muslims invaded and conquered in Latin America as well.
3. Politics The Caribbean experience was a model for Spanish actions in Latin America. Columbus and his successors established colonies. Catholicism was highly influenced in the Latin American world, and cathedrals and missionaries were built.

5. Exploitation of the Indians Enslavement of Indians, except in warfare, was prohibited by the middle of the sixteenth century. The harshness of encomiendas contributed to Indian population decline.
