A brief review of what I have done

2. Among all the projects that I have conducted, the
‘Aerodynamical flow control applied in Formula One’ was
absolutely my favorite one. In this project, I accomplished a
literature review of the principles of flow control
components, analyzed and summarized the action
principles of classic flow control components in the design
history of Formula One cars, and verified the Venturi Effect
by utilizing those abundant resources in our Mechanics
Experiment Centre. This initiated research completed by
me, an undergraduate student at that time, filled the
academic blank in China which fully testified my academic
research capacity, passion for research, and potential for
future studies and career life.

3. ‘The Design and Manufacture of 3D Printing Micro
Flight Vehicle’ was definitely a sensationalized project
I have done. I was the designer of this aircraft and
took responsibilities for the analysis of aerodynamic
performance. I calculated the lift-drag coefficient by
using simulation software such as Profilli and Tunnel.
Meanwhile, I also did FEA of the structure by Patran
and Nastran. After half a year’s co-effort, our team
successfully created the first 3D Printing Micro Flight
Vehicle in China. The invention was reported by
domestic mainstream media like Global Times.
Furthermore, it was a great honor to be invited to the
programme of Shanghai TV to demonstrate my
production.

4. ‘Aerodynamic Characteristics of
Trailing Edge Mini Flap on Airfoil’
was my graduation design project
in which I created a new kind of
Mini-TED. Using CFD method
through modeling in Profili and
AutoCAD, meshing in ICEM and
numerical simulation in Fluent, I
proved that such a flap of 1%
chord scale pasted on the trailing
edge of an airfoil significantly
improve the aerodynamic
performance under certain
circumstance. Additionally, this
invention has advantage in light-
weight and low-drag over
traditional lift-enhancing devices
due to its easy-realized simple
structure, which potentially
enables it to be a good
compromise.

5. The ‘Insect flight vehicle’
was an interesting project
that aroused much attention
because we use different
kinds of insects as the
power unit, including flies,
cicadas and bees. I
participated in the design
and making of the flight
vehicle. However, due to my
continuous efforts, I was
selected as the cover figure
of the official website of
Tongji University. In addition,
I took great pride in the fact
that I was spoken highly of
by the official microblog of
my university as ‘The ground
will record the footprints of
those who are consistently
making great efforts.’

6. I think karting gives me the opportunity to
explore more about race car including vehicle
dynamics and the engine. In karting, I come
across barriers and challenges every moment
to calmly look at the whole situation and make
decisions immediately. I got 24th in National
UKCA University Kart Racing among more than
2000 participants. My high school classmates
are my super-fans and they always support me
at the trackside, which I really appreciate.

7. After graduating from
high school, I realized that
drawing is a basic skill in
car design, so I started
learning sketch in order to
express some ideas on
cars. I spent much time
improving the level of my
sketch, as a result of
which I became basically
qualified to draw cars. I
really enjoyed that period
of time witnessing the
great progress I had made
from a beginner. However,
I was equipped with
another useful skill which
is beneficial to my future
career life.

8. I acted as the director of aerodynamic
department of Formula Student Team DIAN
Racing of Tongji University, taking responsibility
for the design of the diffuser and aerodynamical
optimization . I tried to reword the regulation by
transferring double diffuser design conbined with
cooling fans of the power unit to our car to create
great ground effect, which unfortunately did not
show significant effect due to our manufacturing
accuracy of the carbon fiber. However, the
attempt itself was an opportunity for me to
challenge myself and display some of my brilliant
ideas on aerodynamics.

9. I won the first prize twice in the 3rd and 4th sessions of applied
mechanics innovation competition organized by Tongji University in
2013 and 2014 respectively. It was the top university-level science
and engineering competition in which a large number of students
tried their best to demonstrate their abilities and ideas on
mechanics in order to build heavy load-bearing structures. However,
there was never anyone who won back-to-back titles in this
competition. For me, it was a great affirmation of my mechanics
foundation and a huge encouragement which stimulated me to
further efforts.

10. I am interested in fund and foreign exchange
investment. I took part in the ‘Jinqi Cup’ gold and
foreign exchange trading simulation contest held in
2013 and I ranked 5th in a single week among all
the 400 participates. However, I think trading not
only strengthened my financial consciousness but,
more importantly, it trained my logical and
analytical ability. Such ability in financial data
analysis has much in common with motorsport.

11. I was an officer at the Department of Literature and
Art in Students’ Union of Tongji University. I hosted
a variety of relevant activities including graduation
party, singing contest, campus concert. I served as
the chief tuner of almost every activity. However,
such working experience added color to my college
life and became my special happy recollection.
From that, my cooperative ability was enhanced
which is important in my future team work. I really
cherish the memory of contributing myself to the
construction of campus culture in my fresh year.

12. The 5th Talents’ Quality Development
Class was held by Department of Human
Resources in Student Union of Tongji
University. I was selected into the class
as an excellent talent of student union
at Tongji University and
received professional management
training held by an HR organization
outside school. We held the Ten Best
Singers Competition in Student Union of
Tongji University and I acted as the
assistant director. The rehearsal was
chaired by me and I was in charge of the
stage implementation in the actual
performance. It was absolutely a
precious experience that developed my
leadership . At the end of this training, I
wrote a report on the relationship
between efficiency and the number of
team members in the process of
cooperation which gained acceptance of
the trainer.

13. In February 2015, I took up a financial internship in
Allied Victory Gold & Silver Investment Limited,
which equipped me with rich skills in financial
operation. The manager was deeply impressed by
my high learning capacity so that I was then being
trained to be a part-time broker of the company. It
is absolutely challenging and laborious to explore
things outside my professional field, but I really
enjoy the feeling when seizing moments to achieve
more knowledge. I always believe that those with
comprehensive skills in different fields will be more
important and popular in the future.
