2. Heavy vehicle licence classes
There are 5 different classes of a heavy vehicle licence. Each class
has minimum requirements you must meet to upgrade your licence
to the next class. These requirements vary depending on the licence
class.
LR – Light Rigid – small buses or trucks.
MR – Medium Rigid – medium rigid trucks or
buses.
HR – Heavy Rigid – heavy rigid trucks or buses
(including articulated buses).
HC – Heavy Combination – heavy articulated
vehicles.
MC – Multi Combination – B-doubles, prime mover,
low loader dolly and low loader combinations, road
trains.
3. Excavator Training

Conduct Civil Construction Excavator Operations course
(also known as an Excavator Training Course) has been
developed for the most novice operators to the most
experienced.
Excavator training is delivered and statements of
attainment are issued by FHV Driver Training
(RTO No 91857).
• Excavator training consists of 2 days of training:
⚬ Day 1: Classroom theory
⚬ Day 2: Practical day with exercises on a real
excavator
4. Elevating work platform is the term used to describe all configurations of
EWPs being self-propelled, trailer mounted (towable) or truck mounted. This
term is not used when the work platform is an attachment such as a
“personnel basket” or “cage” fitted to plant such as a forklift. Below are
pictures of the most commonly found EWPs.
Elevating Work Platform – AS2550.10; 1.3.7
A mobile machine (device) that is intended to move persons, tools and
material to working positions and consists of at least a work platform with
controls, an extending structure and a chassis.
There are many variations of EWP but they can be placed in one of two
categories: Boom type or Scissor type.
