La Luna
Here is an
image of the
boy peering at
the moon
rising.
We asked you
to think about
what he might
be saying
Here are some
of your ideas
“It’s so bright”
“That’s so
beautiful!”
“Is it ever going to
stop growing?”
”Wow! It is amazing. How is it so big?”
“Grandad, it's
beautiful”
“What is that giant
pearl? ”
‘‘This is awesome. I could gaze upon this all day’’
“It’s amazing”
“Am I dreaming?”
“What is that great ball glowing in front of me?”
“Whoah! It’s huge”
Task 1:
Write it down!
Having read the ideas
of others, decide
what your boy is
going to say.
Task 2:
On the next slide are
some words that
could be used to
describe how he
feels.
Look them up if you
are unsure.
Write down the
words you like then
use wordhippo.com
to find others
Task 2:
hypnotised
beguiled
awestruck
Task 2:
bewildered
amazed
transfixedin wonder
Task 2:
bewildered
amazed
transfixed
We can also build a
fuller picture of how
he feels by describing
his reactions
His eyes were wide
His eyes were full of
wonder
For example:
Mouth agape
(a better way of
saying his jaw
dropped)
For example:
Write a few
sentences that
include what the boy
says and how he
feels.
Task 3
Read the examples
first…
Then he saw it. The moon.
The boy looked over the edge of the boat
and whispered, "Wow! I just can't believe
it. It's just angelic. Beautiful!"
Mouth agape, he was awestruck. The
glowing silver orb beamed at him. He
beamed back.
Example 1
“Whoah! Never in my dreams have I seen
such a wonderful sight,” he slowly murmured
to himself.
Eyes full of wonder, he was transfixed by by
the majestic sight before him. Awestruck by its
beauty, his hands tightened around the edge
of the little boat.
“Why is it so huge?” he whispered.
Example 2
Your go!
It is up to you
whether you start
with the speech (as in
example 2) or
whether you start
with description (as
in example 1)
Task 3
In the second part of
the lesson, we are
going to describe the
scene.
Our readers won’t
have seen the
animation, so we will
need to describe it in
great detail.
There are lots of
things we could
think about
describing…
The moon rising
from the ocean
The size of the moon
Its colour
The clear sky and
stars above
The silence, peace
and tranquility
The calm ocean
That they are alone
in the ocean
The waves lapping
against the boat
The pool of light on
the ocean
Here are some of
your ideas and
phrases that you sent
yesterday.
…he blue glow of the
midnight sky, was
even brighter than
the moon itself…
…the boat creaked……reflecting on the
gentle ocean water…
…the sea was
glistening like a
diamond…
…the boat creaked……reflecting on the
gentle ocean water…
…the tranquil waters
rippled against the
little wooden boat. …
…a corridor of silver
light…
…bathed in silver
light…
…a majestic silver orb emerged
from the still waters…
…The stars
shimmered in the
dark of the night sky
and cast little specks
of light onto the
water…
…lit up the void …
You are writing in
the third person and
the past tense. You
are not there!
You must use your
descriptive powers to
convey the magic of
the scene.
Have a look at an
example before
writing…
Alone in the ocean, the little wooden boat rocked gently as the calm
and tranquil waters lapped around it. Silence filled the night air as
the silver orb began to emerge, rising from the depths before them.
As it rose, the dark waters began to shimmer and sparkle, silver
light dancing on the surface. The pool of light began to grow and
reach into the darkness beyond; in the sky, the stars seemed to part,
making way for the majesty of the moon.
Silhouetted against the great sphere, the tiny vessel was now bathed
in the magical light.
Your go!
Go back and look through previous slides if you need some prompts
and ideas.
Describe this magical scene.
