To whom it may concern,
It is my pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for employment or academic studies. I, Anna
Bryan RN Team Lead, worked with Charles from Aug 2011- May 2013, then supervised him from Sept
2014-July 2016. Charles' role as a staff nurse is defined by Ascension Health as "[providing] direct
nu rsing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare
organization."
His strengths include being safety minded, patient oriented, thorough, willing to trying new experiences,
and a great team player. He did sometimes appropriately struggle with time management due to
thoroughness, but this never jeopardized patient safety.
His contributions to our unit and the health system are numerous:
• Volunteered to be unit representative on the Nursing Research Council (2012-2016) and Nursing
Documentation Council (Oct 2015-June 2016). Both positions involved monthly meetings,
participating in council activities, and communicating as well as supporting council efforts at the
unit level.
o For instance, for the Nursing Research Council, he partnered with a fellow nurse to
develop and present a focused literature review on checklists, which earned the
excellence award at the yearly State of the Science Poster Fair 2015.
• Selected to be Nurse Preceptor (teacher) (summer 2015 - summer 2016). This involved
orienting two experienced nurses and two new graduate nurses.
• Helped in the transition of our unit from cardiac care to kidney transplantation kidney
transplant, which involved him shadowing an outpatient kidney transplant clinic; learning new
medications, procedures, and protocols. Moreover, Charles was one of the first nurses on our
unit to care for these complex patients and was chosen specifically for this task.
• Agreed to be Relief Charge Nurse (several times). Duties included making patient assignments,
providing guidance to staff, communicating with house supervisor, and assessing inventory of
supplies.
Charles has also:
• Received 12 documented recognitions for excellent conduct and performance from phvsicians,
fellow staff, and managers as well as 3 documented patient recognitions highlighting wonderful
care received from Charles.

• Successfully applied for and completed 6-month weekend option contract (2012) which involved
committing to work every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for six months. Of the approximately 78
shifts, he was absent only once (6 absences allowed), he was offered to continue the contract,
but declined the offer.
• Served as a Basic life Support CPRInstructor (2010 - present) with over 10 classes taught
• Applied, was accepted, and completed two-year St. John Nursing Scholarship work agreement in
(2013).
• Successfully balanced employment and academic obligations during spring 2016 by working part
time (24hours/week) and taking 15 undergraduate hours, eventually earning a 4.0 for the
semester.
In closing, I would like to reiterate my support for Charles. He is intelligent, self-motivated, and always
learning. I am confident he would be successful in all future employment or education endeavors. Please
feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
Anna Bryan, RN Team Lead
