Ribbon Blender
Vortex offers standard duty ribbon blenders in standard size from 50L to 10000L.
Pictured is a 1000L stainless steel model, including Siemens motor, safety limit
switch, control panel, variable frequency drive, and knife gate discharge valve.
The dust-tight cover includes a charging port with safety grating, and the U-
shaped trough.
These ribbon blenders are used for mixing powders, grains, pellets, flakes and
other dry blends. Small amounts of liquid may be sprayed throughout the batch
during the blending cycle, ensuring uniform distribution. Wet applications such as
pastes, slurries, and suspensions can also be prepared in these blends. The
versatile blending mechanism is delivered by a horizontal agitator with
characteristic inner and outer helical ribbons precisely pitched to move materials
in a well-balanced axial and radial flow pattern.
Pictured ribbon blenders meet sanitary standards and blends up to 600L of
powders, pastes, or slurries. The model is constructed of #304 stainless steel
with continuous welds having 0,25-in. radii polished to 300 frit, a #4(-32 Ra)
interior surface finish, and external removable seals.
The blender’s 2:1 length-to-diameter ratio distributes ingredients uniformly
during loading, blending, and discharge. It forces a split double-helical agitator
through stationary material, producing homogeneous blends in typically 5 to 6

minutes. Tight tolerances of 1/16 to 1/32 in. between ribbon blades and the
vessel wall minimize residual product in the trough following discharge, reducing
material waste and cleaning time.
The unit is equipped as standard with a hinged and gasketed cover with safety
interlocks, and available to
pharmaceutical and dairy standards, with continuous welds finished up to 300
grit and #6 or electropolished interior surface finishes.
Other options include a dust hood inlet with removable grating for ease of
loading, spray lines for liquid additions, multiple discharges, special drive
arrangements, and CIP manifolds.
