Museum development in
Kazakhstan
Author: PhD Ibrayev E.E.
Priority directions of development a
modern museum
 managing museum activities in
accordance with the requirements
of the time and era;
 focusing on the needs of the
modern consumer of museum
services,
 understanding the changes in the
target audience,
 as well as looking for
opportunities to attract other
social groups and communities;
 search for new forms of exposition
activities involving non-standard,
creative solutions;
 use of modern information
and communication
technologies; creation of a
network of inter-museum
interaction,
 search for additional non-
governmental
 funding from funds,
 participation in competitions
 , provision of non-traditional
services for museum
activities
 Most museums have ceased
be closed academic
institutions, they present
today a hospitable, inspiring
and an attractive public
space, where attention is
focused on the directions,
forms and methods of
contact with a potential and
real audience, as well as on
determining the
development strategy of the
museum activities.
 For example, a traditional
tour changes for through the
introduction of non-
traditional methods -
theatricalization, game,
dialogical communication,
etc.
 Such an excursion provides
an opportunity not only to
inform, it helps to get
involved in the dialogue of
cultures, to feel the
characteristic features of the
museum's historical and
cultural environment.
 In this sense, the
"communication" of the
museum with the
visitor assumes the
establishment of
mutual business,
emotional or friendly
contacts on the basis of
common interests
related to the topic or
content of collections
 the museum exposition is increasingly being built according
to dramatic laws, based on a conceptual approach or scenario
required not only for scientific presentation of museum
items, but also to create a holistic artistic image. Moreover,
the exhibits can be detached from the usual context,
discovering new meanings and metaphors.
Museum Karlag,
Dolinka village,
Karaganda region
 The second direction is
associated with the
expansion of the museum
space thanks to the
creation of performances,
art events, theatrical
performances on its
territory. Performances
most often held in art
museums and galleries.
 An example of the most a
bright and impressive action
can be "Night at the
Museum", uniting state,
municipal and private
museums in a program that
usually lasts until two to
three o'clock in the morning,
in which you can see non-
museum events-concerts of
popular artists, multimedia
and traditional
performances, theatrical
performances, etc.
Important to remember!
These forms of work should diversify the types of cooperation
with visitors, but not replace the main types of work in museums.
The main areas of museum activity
are cultural,
educational, research
activities, acquisition of
museum collections,
exposition, publishing,
restoration, security
work.
By profile, museums are
divided into the following
types:
art, historical, literary, natural
science, archaeological,
scientific and technical, local
history, industry and complex.
 The essence of the museum
service, is to meet the real and
potential needs of museum
visitors by communicating to
them the results of the
professional activities of
museum workers: materialized
(museum exposition; exhibition
catalog; souvenir products;
advertising booklet, poster of
events) and non-materialized
(museum excursion, theatrical
performance, presentation of an
exposition, publication, project)
Museums in the Republic of
Kazakhstan face the following
problems:
1. low level of state management
in the field of protection and
preservation of cultural sites,
2. in promoting the cultural and
recreational brand of national
heritage;
3. imperfection of the legislative
framework in the field of
museum affairs,
4. insufficient exhibition space,
5. lack of a reliable system of
accounting and storage of
museum funds,
6. inadequate level of protection of
museum exhibits, insufficient
level of personnel and
information support.
7. low salaries of museum
workers,
8. insufficient number of
professionally trained
specialists;
9. museums are not pivotal
centers for the development
of research activities,
10. the basis for the development
of tourism clusters and
important objects for
attracting international
attention;
11. the work of museum
marketing is not developed,
due to which the attendance
of Kazakhstani museums is at
a low level.
