Life On Mars
1. Shot Composition- life on mars
When Sam approaches the police station we see a
framing, this sets the scene. Sam is framed by a scruffy
police station and cars etc around him. While this is
happening we also see a deep focus while Sam is
walking into the police station, this is chosen so the
audience can see what kind of area he is in and what the
location is like.
Inside the police station we see a shallow focus while
Sam is on the phone, this tells us that what Sam is doing
is very important and by putting everybody in the
background blurry, it focuses our attention onto Sam.
The next scene we see inside a mortuary, this scene is
framed by four walls with two windows, the only light
coming into the room is sunlight, this effects this scene
as it tells us that it is very mysterious and that it isn’t
going to be very happy place due to the amount of light
and no colour on the walls.
While Sam is in the canteen there is a shallow focus this
again makes us focus on the emotions from Sam and tells
us that he is very confused.
A deep focus is used outside the police station while Sam
and his women friend are talking this emphasises how
big the building is and how little they are compared to it.
The next shot composition used is a shallow focus, this
happens while Sam is looking into a shop window which
he used to go there as a child. This shot was used as it is
quite an important scene as Sam is remembering things
from the past.
