2. Music
For the background music we would have ‘Tiptoe through the Tulips’ as it has a very
chilling quality about it, and will then make a great contrast to the dark atmosphere of
the thriller opening as it is so upbeat. It also has a child-like air about it, so it is very suitable
for our opening.
There will also be a lot of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds in order to increase the
tension- an essential element of a thriller. These sounds shall include girl children crying,
screaming and shouting and men laughing. The reason that girls are the children and
men are the adults is because in our questionnaire 20/30 said they’d like to see a male
adult as the antagonist and a female teen was the most popular choice to be the
protagonist. These are also parallel sounds as they shall create suspense, therefore
complementing what the viewer shall see. Ambient sounds will be used increase the
atmosphere further, making it seem even more real. No dialogue to be used as it distracts
the viewer and decreases the authenticity.
When the filming is done outside, we shall have selective sounds of the wind to make it
seem more creepy.
3. Lighting
When inside there shall be all darker lighting in order to create a
spooky, intense atmosphere and go with the film. However, when outside
it shall be the natural lighting to make a contrast to the darker lighting.
