2. NightCrawler Poster(2014)
◦ The colours are very monotone and dark but the car stands out
possibly suggesting high significance to the movie. The red could
connote perhaps blood and death which is to come in the film.
◦ The character stands alone on the poster showing that he is the main
protagonist and fits in with the movie title as he most likely works
alone. However, there are lots of lights in the background to take away
all the attention from the character.
◦ The font is also written in sans serif which gives a softer look and in
yellow as if it were lights. This fits in with the tag line about lights and
brightness. There are also street lights which ties in with the tag line
and it sets the scene and the time of the movie (in a city at night).
◦ The poster contains the elements of thriller as it is mysterious and has
a cryptic message which makes it intriguing.
3. Gone Girl Poster (2014)
◦ The writing is written in sans serif. There are already thriller
conventions with the tag line which has a cliff-hanger suggesting
elements of mystery and suspense.
◦ There is also a semantic field of death as there are clouds and eyes
of a female in the background as if she is watching over him like
she's in heaven.
◦ The mans body is slightly disorientated which could imply his life
is also disorientated and he is lost as he is looking for something.
◦ The colours fade from light at the bottom to dark at the top and
uses simplistic colours.
4. Now you see me trailer
The Trailer contained approximately 28 blackouts.
It contained a number of close ups and some long shots
which helped to set the scene.
The music was very fast paced from the start right through
to the end and kept up with the number of jump cut
editing. There was also slight use of faded editing.
A lot of the plot was given away and it didn’t contain a lot
of elements of mystery.
5. The Equilizer
◦ This trailer had more slow and intense music which sped
up more towards the end. There were a number of
blackout of about 30 which created more suspense and
tension.
◦ There was a lot of fade editing and close ups which helped
increase the intensity. There was also a lot of dark lighting
which created a more serious and tense atmosphere.
