1. PREPARING FOR A LESSON OBSERVATION
How would you as a teacher trainer introduce the peer lesson observation?
I think I should explain to the teachers that it is very important to be observed in our own classes
because the observer can feedback and it help us to improve our work. To observe the class I think
I need to be prepared with the points to qualify that previously were agreed between the trainee and
me. Then I take a place where I can observe, trying to be unobserved for the class.
Which observation tasks could be interesting for your trainees? Write down some
ideas.
The way he has the control in the class; the activities he use to catch the attention of the students;
the form to explain the theme and the activities or home works for the class.
How would you prepare your visit with the trainee? Which information do you need
beforethe observation?
I would talk with the teacher to know if it is possible to visit his/her class and mention him/her some
points I could evaluate and what is the objective of this. For this, I need some information like: the
level he/she is teaching, the school where he/she is working, and even the group size and the age
of the students.
How long should the lesson observation last?
I think 15 or 20 minutes is enough time to observe different situations and attitudes.
How would you write down your feedback? Create a feedback sheet which you could
use for your future lesson observations.
Teacher’s name
Level
Vocabulary level
Participation of the group
Activities about the theme
Material available (computers, audio,
flashcards, etc.)
Good points of the trainee
How would you manage the feedback-discussion? Write down the most important
rules.
After focus in the class, I can explain to the teacher the points I think he could work on and add the
positive things he has to motivate his future work.
What happens if the trainee fails? What advice would you give him/her?
I think that everybody fails and I don´t need to be so rude, just going directly to the observations
and having a good way to say them.
What can the trainee do, if he does not accept the feedback of the trainer?
First I hear his points why not, and then I could to explain him that this is my opinion and he knows
if he takes it or let it go. Finally he must to consider that I am the trainer and I´m going to qualify
him.
Is a second visit possible? With the same trainer?
Yes to check the evolution of the trainee.
