1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (2) (2) (1) (1) (1)My magazine has many elements that are similar to real music magazines. For example there is a banner above the title, this obeys the conventions of real magazines. (2)My magazine is called ‘Noise’ which is follows the semantic field of music. I decided to call my magazine ‘N’ for short as it was catchy and easy to remember. ‘Q’ magazine has also done this. (3) Although Q’s target audience is on average older than mine so they’re fonts are more refined and elegant like ‘Times New Roman’ whereas I have used fonts like ‘Sylfaen’ and ‘System’. (4) I have also used a circle to highlight one of the features of the magazine, this follows the conventions of real music magazines like ‘Q’ and ‘NME’. (5) My music genre is quite ‘Indie’ this is suggested through my artists featured in my magazine like, ‘Pixie Lott’ ‘Florence and The Machine’ and ‘Snow Patrol’. I believe that I follow the conventions of an Indie music magazine because I have featured the correct artists that follow this genre. (4) (3) (5) (4) This was taken from ‘NME’ magazine. (3)
Question one continued.. (6) I also included a banner at the bottom of my magazine which contained more artists that were featured in my magazine. This also follows the common conventions of music magazines as ‘NME’ also shows. (7) I included images of other artists featured in my magazine which is another convention of music magazines. Above the image I added a headline and tagline to explain to the readers what the image was about. Another example of this being used is in the magazine ‘NME’.
Question one continued.. (8) In many music magazines they stick to a ‘three/four colour’ rule in order to keep the magazine looking professional and not too busy. I have used red, white and black and have stuck to these colours throughout my front cover. Q has used red, white, grey and black and has stuck to those colours throughout. I believe by sticking to this rule the magazines look very professional and classy. In both magazines the background is a fading grey, this allows the artists to stand out and will attract the readers attention. It also makes the magazine look less boring as the background is not simply a plain white. Both artists are wearing black which makes them seem classy and also blends in well with the banners and colours used. However in my magazine I have used a microphone as a prop as it follows the semantic field of music. It emphasises and highlights on the fact that Brooke Kelly is a singer.
