6. Major global health threat - diabetes
affecting most productive group aged 20 & 80
yrs. WHO dedicated this year world health day
for Diabetes. 3 decades back it was crippling
developed societies. Now developing & under
developed countries are in siege. It is not
difficult to prevent & to control even after its
onset. If you are determined with awareness
about diabetes it is very easy to handle. Lead
near normal life with proper lifestyle. Stay
super-beat diabetes is the punch slogan of
WHO.

policy is very good. There is no lite or mild
diabetes. Blood sugar control is not only the
criteria. Simultaneously check cholesterol,
triglycerides, SGOT, SGPT levels
9. Especially newly diagnosed Expert guidance
of Ayurveda, Yoga, proper lifestyle go a long
way in preventing complications of diabetes at
a later date. Religious heads please don’t
create hopes that it can be managed with
prayers & no medicines. This is dangerous and
life threatening.
Mostly middle class are afraid to accept
diabetes especially unmarried young women
feeling that they will not be accepted. Today
with proper expert counseling such myths
can be shattered.
10. In my counseling center between 2006 & 2016
counseled 82 couples who are not ready to
inform their spouse about their diabetes.
Especially newly wedded. Uncontrolled
diabetes may cause abortions in woman and
may lead to erectile dysfunction, loss of libido in
men. Can cause frequent fungal infections in
both male & female. It may cause even mental
depression in women apart from hormonal
imbalance causing many unwanted health
problems. May lead to complicated metabolic
syndrome, obesity, thyroid in women.
11. You cant control just by restricting food it may
lead to nutritional deficiency. Hypoglycemia
(low) is more dangerous than Hyperglycemia
(excess) Out door game, nutritious food, yoga,
dhyaanaa, Suryanamaskaaraas, brisk walk for
20 min/ day give amazing results in long run.
Excess workout must be avoided that may
cause low blood sugar. NO FASTING, NO
FEASTING is the fundamental. Having 4
small, nutritious meals is the key. it is
sometimes symptom less for 10 yrs don’t live
in ignorance. Family history must alert you.
12. Let food be your best medicine not the
other way. Proper meal at small intervals help
a lot never keep more than 4 hrs between 2
meals. Snacks like salads, sprouts must be in
your pocket. Eat variety of food in small
quantities like pounded rice, roti, 300 gm
cooked vegetables, 50 gm dal, 300 ml butter
milk, millets should be pat of your daily food
as snack, main course food. Citrus fruits, veg
salads, soups, little nuts are good. Green tea
with cinnamon, ginger, turmeric 2 times a day
is good for diabetics
13. Up to the age of 25 yrs you may have small
quantities of animal protein only between
Sun rise & Sun set. After 25 yrs avoid NV food
as it increases uric acid level in blood and can
alter the body metabolism that can increase
metabolic disorders like Diabetes, Thyroid and
even inflammatory process is increased causing
arthritis. Tinned, junk, oily, spice food may
compound the problems. Eat sensibly be
healthy & happy. Some drugs like steroids
can induce diabetes. Pregnancy in some may
cause gestational diabetes
14. 30 min walk, cycle, swim, out door game +
nutritious food make you to lead near normal
life. No Alcohol, no smoking. Shuttle, tennicoit,
foot ball, tennis, Kho – Kho, kabaddi are very
good for health. Even TT is good.
Avoid Hurry-Worry-Curry-Burry. Play
with children. Help family in daily chores.
Maintain good family, societal relations. Keep
mind active with puzzles, quiz programs,
learning a new language, music, visiting new
areas. Check periodically. Listen to docs win
Diabetes.
