Vertical Lines
-lines that are right angle and or perpendicular to a plane.
Horizontal Lines
-lines that are parallel to a horizon
Angular Lines
-lines that have sharp edges.
Curved Lines
-lines that do not have angles.
Slanting or Diagonal
-lines that intersects two point in sloping way.
Jagged Lines
-lines that are serrated or toothed.
Art
-represented by symbols, signs, and pictures using various
shapes, forms, texture, lines, and colors.
Line as an Element of Art
There are many different manifestations of line.
Lines may be curved, with a smooth flowing rhythm; or
they may be straight, with sharp, dynamic angles.
Lines may be clearly defined or vague and diffused; they
may be simple and direct; or they may show great detail
and ornamentation.
The quality of line may be delicate and refined; or it may
be broad, showing strength and solidity.
LINES are simple symbols that create other
kinds of symbols. The strokes and style of
drawing lines give variations of perception.
Looking keenly at lines drawn in different
styles, one will find out that there are features
and characteristics that can help to everybody.
When properly and artistically used, lines will
give certain features.
KINDS OF LINES:
1. Vertical lines- are lines that are right angle and
or perpendicular to a plane. They carry the eyes
upward and create a soaring feeling.
2. Horizontal lines- are lines that are parallel to the horizon. They.
lead the eyes from left to right or vice versa. It connotes rest,
quietness, peace, relaxation, and serenity. The longer they are,
the more they extend to infinity.
3. Angular lines- are lines that have sharp edges. They can be
long or short.
4. Curved lines- are lines that do not have angles. They are
graceful and show life and energy.
5. Slanting or Diagonal- are lines that intersects to point in
sloping way. These suggest action or movement instability, loss of
control and independence, therefore, powerlessness.
6. Jagged lines- are lines that are serrated or toothed. These are
harsh and unpleasant, connoting confusion and disturbance.
6 different kinds of lines:
1. Vertical lines,
2. Horizontal lines,
3. Angular lines,
4. Curved lines,
5. Slanting or Diagonal, and
6. Jagged lines
