The Center for Urban Forest Research (CUFR) has developed the Stratum tool to analyze the benefits and costs of urban trees, enabling cities to understand the dollar-to-dollar benefit-cost ratio (BCR) for tree management. Findings indicate significant variations in BCR across different cities, with Bismarck reporting the highest at 3.09, emphasizing the need for cities to effectively manage and invest in their urban forests. Stratum also allows cities without comprehensive tree inventories to utilize statistical sampling for cost-effective assessments of their urban forestry assets.
