1) The Asian lion or Indian lion is a subspecies of lion found primarily in India. 2) It has the scientific name Panthera leo leo and is listed as Endangered by the IUCN Red List. 3) The Asian lion historically occurred across eastern Turkey, Iran, Iraq and India but is now only found in the Gir Forest region of India, with the population having grown to around 650 individuals.
