The Creative Decision Making in a Documentary Production
This journal inspects the importance of creative decision making in various aspects of documentary
production, examines whether those decisions help to make the film an engaging cinematic piece,
and explores the influences it might have on the society, the cinema and the subject, in relation to
my own experience in producing a 15min documentary filmHackney Pirates, and my
understandings of relevant practice from the contemporary cinema.
Introduction
Films about education for children in critical situations have been seen in cinema since the 1990s.
For example, Zhang Yimou s 1999 film Not One Less tells a story about a teenage girl Wei Minzhi
who volunteers to teach in a one room primary school and her relationships with the pupils. And ...

Slightly frustrated at first, we realised that the interviews are actually not as necessary as in ГЉtre
et Avoir on a second thought, in that the theme of ГЉtre et Avoir also includes the teacher s
devotion to his pupils, while Hackney Pirates is purely about the children s learning experience,
which satisfies the objectives of Hackney Pirates; moreover, the volunteer training session
facilitated by one of the founders as part of the narrative structure we ve planned can provide
essential information of the organisation.
The opening
ГЉtre et Avoir opens with a scene of tough labour work and living conditions in a rural farm,
followed by a montage sequence of a classroom with warm and cheerful dГ©cor. The warm interior
in contrast to the cold exterior emphasizes on the light and positive tone of the film, which
consequently helps to attract the viewers attention and keeps them engaged in the following
sequences.
Inspired by the opening sequence of ГЉtre et Avoir, we wanted to open the film with a train
passing by city landscape and finally arriving at Haggerston Overground station where Hackney
Pirates is based.
At first, the director was not sure about what exactly she was expecting from the shot, whether just
the train passing by city landscape would be enough as an introduction or we have to let it come to
a stop i.e. Haggerston in order to provide extra geographic information. We travelled many times on
the train between Shoreditch

Development of a Lab-on-a-Chip Device to Detect DNA Double...
Proposal Summary
We propose to develop a lab on a chip device for the detection of DNA double strand breaks in
situ. Current technology requires laborious manipulation of the cell sample by fixation and staining
with antibody and an optical based detection. All in all, the process may take up to several days
before results are retrieved. The development of an on site, immediate monitoring system will
greatly benefit our understanding of DNA damage causes and prevention as well assessment of
radiation risk by tracking such events instantaneously. Our proposed device is based on
individually addressable carbon nanotube (CNT) array capable of multiplexing for detection of
multiple analytes and targets from a biological sample. The impact of this device in our
information based world is manifold. Not only will the device make it accessible for the user to
track, assess and follow trends of their own DNA damage levels but also empowers the user in
making more informed lifestyle choices. Introduction
With rising urbanization, the DNA in our cells is increasingly being exposed to DNA damaging
agents such as UV light, mutagenic chemicals, reactive oxygen species generated by Ionizing
Radiation (IR) or redox cycling by heavy metal ions and radio mimetic drugs etc. DNA Double
strand breaks (DSBs) occur when reactive oxygen species react with DNA bases causing lesions
in the chromosomes and the formation of foci known as Radiation induced foci (RFI). RFI are
marked by the

Reflection About Geography
Every other year, my high school offers a College in the Schools (CIS) geography course. In this
course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an
underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to
having a tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the mapthat taught me that
procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project
that is for a college class.
In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our
quarter project: a map of the world. Our teacher, Mr.Sharstrom, assigned our class a large number
of physical features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain
ranges, seas, oceans, and deserts. Mr.Sharstrom required us to include all seven continents and a
key that showed distinctions in the different physical features of the world. The maps needed to be
to scale and show a minimum amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our
geography teacher warned us, This project will be time consuming and you will not want to wait
until the week before to start your maps.
After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on
their maps. I knew that my family was traveling to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, for Thanksgiving
break, so I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible

Who Is Dionysus In The Bacchae
Euripides uses the god Dionysus in The Bacchae in order to emphasize that humans need to
embrace irrational behavior in their day to day lives. In Thebes, Dionysus finds a structured and
ordered society, with their goal simply being to work as hard as possible, while Dionysus aims to
simply live to have fun and make merry. Due to the disrespect given to him by the Thebans as a
result of their differences, Dionysusaims to take revenge and force the people to worship him by
destroying their society and recreating it in his image. Dionysus and Theban society are complete
opposites. Dionysus is considered to be the godof wine and merriment. He and his followers live
life to the fullest, epitomizing the idea of carpe diem and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite Dionysus repeatedly trying to convince King Pentheus to see logic, the constant rebuffing
at every turn eventually leads to him giving up reconciliation and condemning the king to death.
As soon as King Pentheus says bring me my arms, attendants! and stop talking, you!, there is no
more talking to be done, and one can see that at this point that the always rational King Pentheus
has repressed the irrational, represented by Dionysus, since he is quite literally calling for his
weapons to kill Dionysus and his followers. (Euripides 809). Since King Pentheus has rejected
what Dionysus has had to say and called for his armor, Dionysus is left with no choice but to
become vengeful and consequently starts to lead King Pentheus to his doom. The critic AJ
Podlecki refers to this when he says Dionysus had told Pentheus, but he did not heed the warning,
for his final assault on the Bacchae is seen as a mad expedition which he is bound to fail (Podlecki
151). Dionysus had warned Pentheus not to do anything rash, because there was no chance that he
could defeat a god in battle. However, due to the fact that Pentheus has made the decision to raise
his sword against the Bacchante, he has exhausted the patience of Dionysus and has therefore set
himself up for his

Identifiable Sick Role
Methodology
During the interaction between doctors and patients with medical situations, the identifiable sick
role is described as a social process. Doctors use usual biomedical diagnostic techniques but
depend also on their personal experience, logic and opinion in checking if the patient is
legitimately sick. So therefore legitimacy of illness is often strictly based on a doctor.
Many people report pain in the body that cannot be diagnosed by medical doctors. These reports
of unknown illness questions credibility of doctors and ultimately if the patient is legitimately
sick. These illnesses are called termed M medically U unexplained S symptoms. The following
study which was done in Denmark gives a view about modern day sociological ... Show more

Is sick role still relevant in modern times?
Data showed that if a person was categorised as Sick Role then they could be granted sick leave,
social grant and compensation. Illnesses that affected people were not constraint to a specific
period of time but rather affected almost everyone at some point in their lives. It is inevitable that
people would be sick and as such the sick role was found to still have relevance today, for it is
inevitable that it would be implemented.
Conclusion
The ultimate gatekeeper of sick role would be the doctor. They provide the necessary establishment
of social control or play the role of an ethical care giver in society, using their authority to
differentiate between normality and deviance in social systems. Therefore preserving social order
is the foundation of functionalists postulates on the specifics of illness and medical circumstance,
with medicine being the essential mechanism to govern the possibly disturbing manifestations of

Commodity Racism
I watched the first black mirror episode and then the episode 3 (episode 1 stood out the most).
One of the first things that stood out to right from the beginning was how they tried to make it a
really future type feel, these episodes were actually really hard for me to watch because of the
fact that our world could turn out to be like the episodes where no one knows the world out side
of their phone. In the first episode a few terms that stood out to me was commodity fetishism,
Hyper real, and a major one was satire.
The first term that showed the most to me was commodity fetishism which is exchange value via

distorting or exaggerating reality. pertaining to or creating a hyper reality. This was really big
when she started to look in the mirror and laugh different ways and she automatically got a
response on how people would rate her based on how her laugh and how she looked was. Another
part was when her son was on the couch playing a video game with the virtual reality headset
which made the rest of the world invisible. When his mother walked in and asked him a question
he had no clue that she asked him a question, this also relates to when they were getting tea and
how everyone was on there phone and not talking to other people they were living their world
through their phone. This is probably the most realistic term that relates the episodes to the real
life today. With the invention of the virtual reality headsets this is one thing I could see and
already seeing become a reality. Another part where you saw this in the episode was when she
meet the people going to tranquility con, those people were living in a world where they
characters not living in the real world and this is something we already see today
Satire was one of the terms that I was the most in the videos. Satire means a humorous critique this
happened a lot in the episodes where people would rate someone and whether it be a good or bad
critique they would act like they are friends and put on a fake act to look happy. This tv show is
what I feel many people fear the world is going to be like and frankly if it does turn out to be like
this I don t even think it would be a world I would want to live

Epicureanism Reflection
After class discussions, have you had any realizations or made any changes in regard to the
philosophies that influences your decisions, actions, or preferences? Has your level of conscious
choice to these philosophies changed? Why or why not?
Answer:
Before Humanities 210, my processes for decision making and preference development were based
on more mental pleasure than physical pleasure. Happiness was the ideal feeling and I would
try to feel happy as long as possible. Having wonderful relationships with family and friends,
making wise decisions, and thinking of ways to improve life were the most important goals to
achieve happiness. However, when moments of extreme happiness emerged, great sadness
followed. Although it was unclear at the time, I was following the concepts of Epicureanism.
Richard Paul Janaro and Thelma C. Altshuler, authors of The Art of Being Human: The
Humanities as a Technique for Living, say that Epicureanism believes complete happiness is a
moderate amount of pleasure with freedom from pain (338). Thus, I realized moderation of
pleasure regulates feelings of sadness. My belief in Epicureanism developed as I recalled periods of
suffering and realized I became happy as the suffering subsided. Regarding religion, my parents and
grandmother practice Buddhism, but they never forced it on me and my sisters so the religion is
not as familiar. However, learning about Buddhism was interesting as it is applicable to everyday
life. One salient

Theme Of Magic Realism In The Mistress Of Spices
In this present technologically superfast world, where the click of buttons is changing the way
people think, plan and execute their works and live their lives, virtual reality , surrealism , hyper
reality are the terms in vogue. They are so commonly used everywhere that they may not seem
fanciful any more. However, the excitement in superstitions, magic and mysticism still prevails.
India has always caught the imagination of foreigners as the land of hidden secrets it is viewed as
a hub of cosmic energy and emerging super power. The secret of Ayurvedas, the variety and depth
in art forms like dance and music are equally attractive as Kamasutra and Yoga. The co existence of

Magic realism is intermingling of reality with fantasy or imagination with the use of folk lore,
fables, and mythological stories in such a way which captures the sensation of the audience in
spite of knowing the truth. It is done to generate either a feeling of awe or wonder or merely to
escape from reality and find some freshness from monotony. The central character Tilottama

1. Describe the development of black schools in the south after the Civil War? Black people saw
educations as a way of self emancipation. Slaves knew the importance of having a education,
some of them took the risk of going to secret school, where they were able to learn how to read
and write. Black decided to set up their own schools at their own expenses. With the help of free
black men, white yankee missionaries, and school teachers the first schools were established in the
South. The inspector of the Freedmen s Bureau when to the South and found around 500 native
schools. Black parents and southtreen residents took control of the schools system. Using their
money to pay for the schools expenses.

The Freedmen s Bureau took control over the black schools in the South proving them with funds

Metaphors In Poetry
M S Essay
Hope is the thing with Feather пјЊ by Emily DickinsonпјЊ and The Path not taken пјЊ by Robert
FrostпјЊare poems that skillfully use metaphors and symbolisms to emphasize the theme of how
hope and decisions have a considerable impact on our lives. While hope allows us to conquer
difficult moments that life throws at us, decision also plays an important role in our lives, for it
determines what path we will go and determines our future.
Robert Frost created a poem about the journey of life. The diverging road in the yellow wood is
used to symbolize a person s life. It symbolizes the different paths that people will encounter in
their lives and suggest the different life people are going to have when choosing different paths. In
the poem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the use of metaphor and symbolism, the theme is easily developed. Hope is a word that
delivers an abstract meaning of what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the
best . The image of a bird perches in the soul and sings the sweetest gale both suggests how hope
is the necessary inspiration human s need in life to motivate them. Hope stays alive in human s
mind, with inspiration and motivation never stop[ping] . Although the song it sings is without
the word , the message it delivers can always be felt. Hope is also strong and undefeatable; it
sings its songs in the chilliest land and strangest sea and can only be destroyed by the sorest
storm . It experiences all circumstances and is always there to overcome problems. Aside from all
the help hope provided, its help is also unrequited, for it has never asked a crumb of me (15).
While hope helps human to overcome suffering in their lives, The Road not taken implies the theme
of the importance of making choices since the choice one makes will change one s whole life. It is
true that many regret not taking the other choice, which is the road not taken in the poem, but
humans will realize that the choice they choose determines their identity. The narrator knows
that his choice will make all the difference since the destination each road leads to will be totally
different. When facing two equally attractive choices, it is even harder to make a decision. The
narrator struggles with letting go and he even thinks about saving the road not taken for another
day. However, once a choice is made, there is no turning back. Ages and ages hence , the narrator
looks back and tells his decision with a sign and regrets his decision of taking the road less traveled

Evaluate The Importance Of Numeracy
The development and proper application of an individuals mathematical ability is a complex
process that is comprised of many significant interrelating concepts that are demonstrated through
the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority s (ACARA) and its many strands
and sub strands. Numeracy most notably is vital to the development and teaching of Mathematics
and underpins many concepts including that of Number sense which is therefore also fundamental
to not only the development of mathematic, but also the success of the implementation of the
Australian curriculum.
Learners need to be cognitively and physically active in the learning of mathematics (Baturo, A ....)

Special Needs Kids Are Not Sick Or Gross
Special needs kids are not sick or gross. They only want to be accepted. They want to feel
normal. They cannot help the way they were born. People who have never dealt with special
needs children do not see what they go through on a daily basis. One out of every 10 children under
the age of 14 has some type of special need. Which includes any medical disability, chronic or life
threatening illness. The children and parents both deal with emotional battles. The parents are
more tired emotionally and physically then a parent without a special need kid.. They feel
alone, because raising a special needs kid is very challenging and takes a lot more effort. They
are scared because they do not know what the future holds. Organizations like CEIP give kids and
parents more hope. They give them something positive to look forward to. The Cumberland Early
Invention Program is a very supportive program. It is good to know there are still non profit
companies out there that are genuinely non profit . Some companies/programs claim to be non
profit but they still have their hand in the cookie jar. The other companies claim to use a certain
amount in other areas. In which, they never state exactly what other areas. The Cumberland Early
Invention Program puts 100% back into the company while individuals are volunteering 100%. So
in other words, the Cumberland Early Invention Program is actually for people that need help and
not for themselves.

Essay on NASA Budget Cuts
In July of 1958, President Eisenhower passed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which
established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as a response to the Soviet Union s
launch of Sputnik nine months earlier. That administration, now known worldwide as NASA, has
become an icon of space explorationand mankind s accomplishments. Who would have thought that
fifty years later, NASAs future would be so uncertain? Congress has recently proposed a bill that
would significantly cut funding from the NASA s Constellation program. These budget cuts are
unnecessary and are counterproductive to the original idea of the space program.
Congress authorized the Constellation program in 2005, assigning it multiple goals, such as ... Show

After the Americans had won the space race of the 60 s, space exploration plummeted on the
nation s agenda. To this day, the world s leaderships generally believe that humanity should be
focused on domestic affairs, instead of gazing of into the stars. In contrast, advocates of the
Constellation program believe the opposite: that NASA should return to the Moon, and eventually
to Mars.
One could argue that NASA is a waste of time, and that Congress s plans a good thing, but there are
many benefits to continuing the Constellation program. Although NASA will still continue
operation without it, the Constellation program, if continued, would result in major technological
advances that would eventually trickle down to the commercial level and benefit humanity as a
whole. So far, these NASA spinoffs include water purification methods, weather forecasting aids,
personal alarm systems, radiation hazard detectors, along with countless others ( Spinoff ). NASA s
programs also employ hundreds of engineers to design and test these technologies. Furthermore,
NASA s explorations dramatically increase our overall knowledge base, allowing us to make sense
of our surroundings. It is human nature to question and explore our environment. Furthermore,
another one of Constellation s goals was to establish a permanent human presence on the Moon,
and someday on Mars.

The Odysseus-Personal Narrative
Complete Cleansing An old crow perched on the uppermost battlements of the enormous black
stone castle. Its wise eyes gazed out at the surrounding scenery, giving the impression that it had
ruled the castle for eternity. In the courtyards and rooms below the wizened crow, the silence
ruled so heavily that it could almost be heard. Nothing had set foot within the gates in many,
many years. A heavy curse lay on the blackened stones of the might fortress, and no living thing
dared venture within the crow s watchful gaze. Jason stepped out of the woods and studied the
fearsome fortress, which loomed on a hill, many yards above his head. Jason wore a long dark
coat, which barely managed to conceal the hilt of a long sword hanging at his belt. His bright blue
eyes shone out from beneath his curly dark hair, and his right hand clutched nervously at the cluster

As he reached the center of the courtyard his advance was halted by the sudden appearance of the
dreaded human shapes, one in each archway leading out of the large open space. He turned

making a dash for the tower and trying to barricade himself in, but the idea flickered and died as
soon as it appeared. Completely silent, the black shadows glided quickly towards him. They
blended in perfectly with the jet black stone walls, making them difficult to see. Jason drew his
sword, nervous about his chances. Realizing that he couldn t let all twelve of them converge on
him at once, he started running towards the tower. As he d anticipated, the shapes swerved to cut
him off. The first one bore down on him swifter than the wind. Jason blocked the first blow, and
then sliced strait through the shadowy head. His blade did no harm however, and Jason was

Artevivo Gallery Analysis
Art galleries and museums are visual spaces used exclusively for an exhibition and education of
art. Galleries and museums are an essential part of our society as it promotes cultural diversity
and differences. The galleries and museums display art to present the viewer an insight into a
variety of cultures, backgrounds, and communities. On the third Friday of every month, an event
in Downtown Brownsville called Noche de Arte takes place. Noche de Arte consists of 13 local
buildings and galleries that showcase artwork to support art and artists within the community. Out
of the 13 galleries, two artworks from Artevivo Gallery struck out to me the most. Artevivo

Although La Rosa is a digital photograph, the viewer can still see that it is a mixed media piece.
While examining this exquisite piece in person, it is abstractly profound by a technique of how
everything is placed together by a collage type of form. The way the emphasis is on the flower is
quite beautiful that brings this photograph together. The variation of colors, writing, and cut outs
shows movement in the piece, yet flows around the flower. The second piece that stood out the
most to me was also another photograph by Mari Ortiz called Loving the Architecture. Architecture,
especially in the downtown area, is antique yet interesting to look at. This picture s medium
required various techniques such as color correction, sizing, cropping, viewing, and printing in a
dark room. The color of this picture defines the boldness and texture of the building in a naturalistic
way. Although printing digitally in a dark room prints the photograph in black and white, the way
the shadows captures depth and tones is absolutely

Hepzibah Pyncheon In The House Of The Seven Gable
At first glance, Hepzibah Pyncheon looks like a cruel old lady due to her nearsightedness and
heavy eyebrows. Even when she was young her features were frightening, but now with age and
grief, her appearance is even more ghastly ( Three Women in The House of the Seven Gables:
Hepzibah ). She actually has a heart of gold and is one of the nicest ladies one might ever meet.
For the last thirty years, Hepzibah has been living in the house of seven gables by herself, which
caused her brain to impregnated with the dry rot of its timbers (Hawthorne ). This has resulted in
her being withdrawn from society and developing a few strange qualities as well as sadness due
to lack of human contact. Her body now reflects the environment she is living in, the decaying
house. Even when she leaves the house with her brother, while on the train, she begins to have

Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education
Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational
services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math.
This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was
signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce
Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Title II of the WIA established the current
accountability standards for adult education programs in the United States that include state level
development of student outcome based performance standards to determine program effectiveness.
Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and
language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable;
an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high schoolequivalency
diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to
improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of
high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli,
Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). WIOA expands and encourages better coordination between the
primary federal programs that support workforce development, employment services, adult
education, and vocational rehabilitation services, and establishes

Neocolonialism in Jamaica Essay
Neocolonialism in Jamaica: History, practices, and resistance
The imposition of structural adjustment programs in the Third World since the 1970s has been
characterized as a war against the poor, a process of [neo] recolonization (Turner, 1994: 37). This
statement is particularly applicable to the country of Jamaica. The island has been susceptible to a
variety of neocolonial acts including the presence of multinational corporations, structural
adjustment programs, and loan organizations that have sucked Jamaica s economy dry. This
neocolonial presence has devastated the population in more ways than one. It is apparent that
neocolonialism has had and continues to have a large impact on society as a whole in Jamaica. This

Profound development began in 1660 when, after a five year struggle against the Spanish
crown, the British won power. There was a significant rise in population under British control.
Their system allowed the colony to prosper as they gave new European settlers land to cultivate
sugar cane and cocoa. The European planter has been described as a machine for making money
(Waters, 1985: 22). The purpose of this colonial economic system was to provide raw materials
and goods for the Mother Country. In addition, a general consumer market was developed to send
wealth to Europe and allow for capital accumulation, all for the benefit of the colonizers.
Slavery represents an important part of Jamaican history and the cultivated dominant atmosphere.
For one, plantations highly depended on slave labor to maximize profit margins. Between 1655 and
1808 one million slaves were forcefully brought to Jamaica (Waters, 1985: 21 23). Persaud (2001:
72) suggests, the plantation system, the totality of institutional arrangements surrounding the
production and marketing of plantation crops, has seriously affected society in Jamaica . In other
words, the slave mode of production was a crucial factor in the establishment of Jamaica s structural
society. Jamaica s class structure today reflects its history as a colonial plantation society and its
beginnings of industrial development

Mobile Ad Hoc Network ( Manet )

Health Disparities are unjust and unequal quality of health or health care outcomes which most
often occurs as a result of margin in educational level, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and
demographics. Indeed, equality in health care is far from perfect in America, there are a number
of socio ecological factors educational level, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and demographics
which commonly cause disparities between the healthcare qualities of different peoples, nations,
cultures, and other classifications. In the case of my focus area of HIV, despite deterrence efforts,

Life After Stroke Essay
Life after stroke
Stroke affects everybody differently, and it is difficult to say how much of a recovery is possible.
Many stroke survivors experience the most dramatic recovery during their stay in hospital in the
weeks after their stroke.
But many stroke survivors continue to improve over a longer time, sometimes over a number of
years. Their recovery is in fact a long period of rehabilitation, as they learn to deal with the effects
the stroke has had on them.
Rehabilitation is about getting back to normal life and living as independent a life as possible. It
involves taking an active approach to ensuring that life goes on for people who have had a stroke.

It is normal to feel angry, desperate, anxious or depressed after a stroke. You may feel worried
about work, money and relationships, and the tiredness caused by stroke can make things worse.
Your GP can refer you to a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist to help you understand and cope

Even today with police brutality all these riots, and violent behavior is not going to bring change

Underachievement Of Black Males Essay
According to Marian Wright Edelman, Education is a precondition to survival in America Today.
Unfortunately, a good quality education that will ensure a successful and economically stable
future for our children today is not available to all children, especially young Black males.
According to Jenkins (2006) in the needs assessment for African AmericanMen of Arizona State
University (AAMASU) program, the university noted that Black males experience a high level of
underachievement in the higher education arena, over involvement in the criminal system, and
high rates of unemployment, poverty, and dying via homicide (Arizona State University, 2004). All
too often African American males have been caught in a web of stereotyped notions of raceand
gender that place them at considerable disadvantages in schools and ultimately society (Howard,
2008). According to Hooks (2004) more than any other group of men in our society black males
are perceived as lacking intellectual skills. The 1900 census reports that 57% of black males
were illiterate. Now as we move onward in the twenty first century, black males make up a huge
percentage of those who are illiterate (Hooks, 2004). Society will looks at our young black men
and label them as lazy, uneducated, underachievers, and highly involved in the criminal justice
system, however at the same time, it overlooks how they got there. According to Jenkins (2006)
this has not always been the case. Prior to the segregation of schools, young

Theme Of The Devil s Arithmetic
Guns. Pain. Blood. Tears. Regret. These words represent a mass genocide. These words represent
the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a mass genocide of the European Jewish people caused by
Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. The destruction of the Jews began in Germany and eventually hatred
towards Jews was spread all over the world. Over 6 million Jewsdied in the Holocaustand
constantly people were injured. The central idea of the Holocaust was that it had a negative impact
on most people who were involved. The theme of the Holocaust is all people should be treated
fairly and humanely. During the Holocaust, Jews were treated unfairly and the genocide had a
negative impact on the people involved.
The Devil s Arithmetic portrays the theme and central idea of the Holocaust.
In The Devil s Arithmetic, a technique used is foreshadowing. Hannah, the main character says, I
m tired of remembering. I don t want to (Yolen 3). This illuminates how the book prepares to let
Hannah know how important it is to remember the Holocaust and how important it was to
remember all who had died. It is important to think about how unfair the Jewish people were
treated and how their whole lives were negatively affected. Another technique used was putting a
fictional character, Grandpa Will, who had gone slightly mad from being a part of the camps and
the Holocaust in the story to show how bad the genocide affects its victims. The book reads, Then
suddenly he d grabbed at her, screaming in Yiddish

The State Of The Wichita State University
Kansas has been ranked 17th in the nation for proportion of students taking on debt. Along with the
already high average, Kansas legislature has continued to make cuts on the budget of universities in
the state. With the cuts, universities in Kansas are forced to find income to replace the
deplenishing government funds. Previous attempts to solve this problem have been made, such as
raising tuition and the cost of programs. Students and parents alike are affected and concerned over
the rapidly increasing cost of this hometown school. Students come to Wichita State University for
not only the in state tuition but also to get a quality degree. With tuition on a rise due to Kansas
Legislature continuing to cut general funds to Wichita State University, the school must search

Nosferatu Essay
Response 1 Nosferatu
My experience watching a feature length silent film was very interesting, to say the least. I found it
amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many
similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling
elements character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to
produce such a complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience
to be very typical of someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with
curiosity on how this film would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams
and jump scares that horror movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic
job of telling the story with the limitations of being able to use sound. I will be very interested in

measured the fiber again to see if there was any muscle concentration after adding the solution. Our
hypothesis was not supported, because the fiber size did not change.
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to learn if any of the three solutions used for the experiment would
cause the fiber to have a muscle contraction and if there wasn t any muscle contraction, understand
why the solution didn t cause a muscle contraction.

(Table 1) ATP alone causes myosin to break the cross bridge and allow the myosin to reattach to
the actin causing a muscle contraction, since the solution we used had ATP; I believed that that was
enough to cause the fiber contraction. I thought that we had done our experiment in correctly
because there was no muscle contraction. I believed that it was due to the amount of solution we
added to the fiber. We re did the experiment and added four drops of the solution but there was no
muscle contraction as

This is because the company is only authorized a certain amount of personnel to begin with so in
order for the organization to get the best bang for its buck some of the lower level job positions
were combined with higher level positions and employees in the lower positions received
promotions. This change helped to offset the cost of hiring new talent to fill those upper level
positions and the laying off of lower level employees in positions the company no longer found
useful. Throughout this process the human resources department along with other department
managers were responsible for ensuring that the new job descriptions accurately portrayed the work
the needed to be done and that employees had the proper certifications to perform the tasks required
in the new position.
This leads me to the topic of staffing. Staffing within The Group is a becoming somewhat of a
concern especially since several employees are expected to retire in the next year. There are
rumors of a change in the company s overall mission. Instead of working to maintain and repair the
current equipment inventory, the company may shift to more of a support role for new companies
that want to store and repair equipment themselves at The Group . The change in mission will
result in a need for the completion of job analyses to help prevent employee from leaving the

Negative Effects Of Fast Fashion Industry
unionized, and they do not receive minimum pay. They have no benefits, and many say that these
workers have too little income to want to contribute to social security (WIEGO). The workers have
to work in unsuitable conditions, damaging their health and safety, but fast fashion also has an
advantage on the lives of citizens or garment workers.
Despite the various negative impacts that the fast fashion industry is causing for developing
countries, garment work is a significant part of many third world countries. Working in garment
production at home can allow women to earn an income and help with children and at home
(WIEGO). Many countries such as Bangladesh, India, Cambodia and Bangkok, the fast fashion
manufacturing makes up most of the countries export earnings. According to Mobarak, a professor
of economics at Yale, garment factory jobs bring about meaningful development for women. Instead
of banning imports from Bangladesh, as has been suggested, we should instead work to improve
safety. Cultures and villages surrounding the garment and textile industry have also seen decreases
of early marriage and childbirth, which allows more women to gain an education and work.
Many women and girls who live near a garment factory are 28% less likely to be married and
29% less likely to have given birth than those living in villages farther away from a factory
(Mobarak). Delays in early marriage and childbirth arise from more younger girls pursuing an
education to obtain skills needed to get a garment factory job. These factories may create a more
meaningful life for women near factories. However, the manufacturing of clothing has impacted the
cities, villages and the environment nearby.
Fast fashion and the clothing industry have made its way to become the second greatest polluting
industry in the world. Uzbekistan, which is one of the leading producers of cotton, has lost one of
the primary sources of water for the production of cotton and has spread toxins and carcinogens into
the air, impacting neighboring communities (Michels). Dying practices for clothing have majorly
contaminated rivers and water sources as well. One dangerous chemical, nonylphenol ethoxylate,
which has been banned in the EU, can still be

Analyzing A Copy For The Means Of Producing A Deliverable...
Introduction
When analyzing a copy for the means of producing a deliverable audit report, there are a few details
that must be considered first. One of the important aspects to increase risk awareness and improve
upon the current operations. To convey this thru the reporting, it is important to know the
organizations reporting practices; when and to who do they report the finding to? Once the auditor
has this information, they need to determine the objective for the audit. Knowing this information
will help to determine the approach to take. Next a structure will need to be developed; how will
the audit report be communicated? This is a vital step when conveying potentially intricate detail, it
must be clear to the receiver. The auditor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cruising In The Caribbean Essay
1.0TERMS OF REFERENCE
Cruising in the Caribbean has grown rapidly in popularity over recent years, and whilst this is an
advantage from a tourism aspect, it has also brought escalated concerns for many territories in this
region. According to Nagel, G. (1999) tourism in the Caribbean had increased from 5 million to
10.6 million in the space of ten years. Since this had been found in 1996, this number has now
raised to 25 million in the past year. Growing demand for cruise travel means economic
development, environmental degeneration, growth in tourism and pollution are now effected more
predominantly. This report will investigate all impacts effecting the Caribbeanand what could be
done to alter those effects that are having a negative impact.
2.0PROCEDURE
2.1Research on the growth of the Caribbean due to cruising
2.2Analysis of the impacts cruising has on the environment and economy
2.3Research on concern about pollution and what is being done by cruise lines to prevent further
damage
3.0FINDINGS
3.1Growth of the Caribbean due to the cruise industry.
3.1.1Public investment has had a great impact on the history of Caribbean growth. The region has
over time developed its tourism products, emphasising natural aspects like sun and sand, whilst
also developing its potential for cruise tourism. Mentioned by Brida, J.G. and Zapata, S. (2010) the
number of arrivals in the Caribbean have increased from 3 million to more than 25 million between
1980 and 2007.

Breaking Toothpick Experiment
The focus of this experiment to determine how breaking toothpicks/pop beads over time relates to
enzymes building up or breaking down substrates. It was then hypothesized that if the method of
breaking toothpicks changes, then the amount of toothpicks broken will decrease as it gets harder.
This hypothesis was supported by the data because it proves that as it grew harder to break the
toothpick, less would be broken over 90 seconds. These experiments demonstrate that as it becomes
more difficult for an enzymeto break down a substrate, it will take a greater amount of time for the
enzyme to its task. Throughout the experiment, the trends showed that when obstacles were in the

It allows them to find analogies for processes in life. This lab was a reflection of how enzymes
react to substrates by building then up or breaking them down. Enzymes reduce the reaction of
building up and breaking down substrates without being affected by the change. The shape of an
enzyme determines to substrate, the material that controlled by the active site of the enzyme,
and it depicts how if it is built up/broken down. It does by completing a specific reaction process
for each substrate. The experimental groups that were modeled by hydrolysis reaction were
Experimental Groups 1 4 and the Inquiry Experiment. These trials displayed the enzyme
decomposing the substrate, the toothpicks; furthermore, it symbolized the chemical reaction of
the enzyme is breaking apart the substrate into smaller pieces. The condensation reaction was
demonstrated as well in Experimental Group 5 with pop beads; it is when monomers (the
simplest sub unit that cannot break down) build up to a polymer (a chain of monomers). This
was represented in Experimental Group 5 because the pop beads were individual monomers and
the enzyme had to create a polymer by connecting them. As stated before, the trend of data in
Experimental Group 3 showed that it having a lower rate of metabolism per second because the
shape of portrayed enzyme was altered. This displays how a denture enzyme reacts inside of a

Third-Degree Assault
Sometimes, arguments between people in Greeley, and throughout Colorado, may become physical.
Depending on the circumstances, those involved in physical confrontations with others may be
charged with assault. A serious criminal offense, being convicted of this crime could carry severe
penalties with lasting implications.
Colorado state law establishes three variations of assault offenses third degree, second degree and
first degree assault. Each of these charges has differing levels of severity and carry different
penalties for a conviction.
Third degree assault
The least severe of the assault variations is assault in the third degree. According to the Boulder
County Bar Association, people may be accused of third degree assault if they knowingly,
negligently or recklessly cause others to suffer injuries using deadly weapons. Additionally,
causing a law enforcement officer, firefighter or emergency medical service worker to come into
contact with certain bodily or hazardous fluids may also qualify as third degree assault.
Under most circumstances, third degree assault is a class one misdemeanor. As an extraordinary
risk crime, people may be subject to enhanced penalties if convicted of this crime. Colorado state
law stipulates that those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

their lawful duties. People who are legally being held in jail or prison and use violent force against
detention facility employees, law enforcement officers, firefighters, court officers or judges may

The Duke Lacrosse team s story illustrates how a single lie can set off a storm of racial and status
related tension that has been simmering for years. The events that took place can be best described
by the ideas associated with the Conflict Theory Approach to socialization. The clash of white
versus black, rich versus poor, and privileged or entitled versus normal, made this the perfect
opportunity for media outlets to shed light on this idea of entitlement in society. Ultimately, turning

Hieronymus Bosch Analysis
Walden 1 How was Hieronymus Bosch able to convey the magnitude of the events within his
painting The Arrest of Christ ? In 1515 Hieronymus Bosch completed his painting The Arrest of
Christ using his own style. With a better understanding of Bosch s style of painting I will show
how Bosch was able to show his perception on the events of that day, by using his form of
painting. Next I will discuss the time period in which Bosch painted The Arrest of Christ . Finally
I will be discussing the painting overall, the different techniques used within the painting itself.
With the understanding of these pointes, I will prove how Hieronymus Bosch Arrest of Christ
painting conveys the magnitude of the events with in the painting. Hieronymus Bosch was born
around 1450; Bosch date of birth has not been determined with certainty (website) Bosch was
born and died where he had lived his whole life, near Hertogenbosch Hertogenbosch is the capital

many had power over everyone like in Europe. The colonists wanted to create a society where
the wealthy didn t dominate others in lower classes, a rough economic equality would be
established, and there would be social equality for all. But in reality the idea didn t happen, the
wealth became unevenly distributed and the middle class nearly vanished, leaving the extrememly
rich and the extremely poor. The richer were able to buy more slaves and purchase more land,

Coming into this event setting was confusing, set up inside in the cafeteria in a small section
towards the front made it confusing for those of us who have never been in the cafeteria. The
setting alone seems extremely unordinary for a Belly Dancer s venue as most of her body that
should be covered in cafeteria are such as her arm pits and her exposed feet. Her intricate body
movements mirror that of the musical instruments and beats to the song as she swings her hips
from side to side. Her introduction of the prop used which is a sword seemed unique, twirling
around in circles that makes it flow in with her choreography. Going so far as to balance the
sword on her head and gripping it with her teeth which takes a lot of skill to do. Watching the
rhythm of her body in sync with the music shows how much exercise in involved as we can see
her stomach muscles flexing and expanding as if she is doing crunches.

Leadership Theories
The concept of Transformational Leadership was initially introduce be leadership expert and
presidential biographer James McGregor Burns (About, 2015). This type of leadership requires for
leaders and followers to have a connection like no other where mutual respect and trust has to be
the foundation of the working relationship. The idea is that in the end everyone results benefited in
one way or another. A different approach on leadershipis Douglas McGregor s Theory X and
Theory Y. Managers who get involved with Theory X believe that workers need to be constantly

My dad s background as an accountant and my interest in the profession prevent me from wanting
to continue my employment at my current location. In regards my peers, most of them also have
ambitions. Some have decided to stay and build up their employment history with one employer
instead of moving around every time work slows down. Others want to move up in the company
and since opportunities exists, it has caught their attention and their efforts are centralized on
achieving that goal. Throughout this course and for the purpose of this project, two styles of
leadership from three different theories caught my attention. After deciding to look for a different
working environment once I obtain an Accounting Degree, I plan to use a combination of two
leadership theories to pass along the basic knowledge of our operations to someone else.
The first theory I will explain is called Transformational Leadership. According to Krishnan (2004),
Transformational Leadership consists of four factors charisma or idealized influence, inspirational
leadership or motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. On his article
he explains that the relationship between leader and followers and their purposes can begin with
both parties feeling completely unrelated to each other. That being said, constant communication
and daily interaction allows for any negative gaps to slowly close and have the participants realize

how to apply the elements of design which can be applied to any digital outcome. Important
Elements/Principles of Design There are a variety of elements to be considered while developing a
print media outcome. Colour is an important design element when used in print media because it
creates visual interest towards the viewer. It determines whether the brochure is noticeable enough.
This comes into consideration which is used to determine the quality of a design within print
media. Colour can generate emotions as well as depict feeling. Alignment is also an important
design element formerly used in print media because it creates a distinct, more orderly design.
When aligning elements this allows them to create a visual connection with either font text,
images, or shapes. It tightens up the design and eradicates the haphazard. This element prevents
items of being randomly placed in a design. Alignment is one of the most basic and important
principles of design. It acknowledges us to create order and organisation in a design. Proximity is

  • 2. The Creative Decision Making in a Documentary Production This journal inspects the importance of creative decision making in various aspects of documentary production, examines whether those decisions help to make the film an engaging cinematic piece, and explores the influences it might have on the society, the cinema and the subject, in relation to my own experience in producing a 15min documentary filmHackney Pirates, and my understandings of relevant practice from the contemporary cinema. Introduction Films about education for children in critical situations have been seen in cinema since the 1990s. For example, Zhang Yimou s 1999 film Not One Less tells a story about a teenage girl Wei Minzhi who volunteers to teach in a one room primary school and her relationships with the pupils. And ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slightly frustrated at first, we realised that the interviews are actually not as necessary as in ГЉtre et Avoir on a second thought, in that the theme of ГЉtre et Avoir also includes the teacher s devotion to his pupils, while Hackney Pirates is purely about the children s learning experience, which satisfies the objectives of Hackney Pirates; moreover, the volunteer training session facilitated by one of the founders as part of the narrative structure we ve planned can provide essential information of the organisation. The opening ГЉtre et Avoir opens with a scene of tough labour work and living conditions in a rural farm, followed by a montage sequence of a classroom with warm and cheerful dГ©cor. The warm interior in contrast to the cold exterior emphasizes on the light and positive tone of the film, which consequently helps to attract the viewers attention and keeps them engaged in the following sequences. Inspired by the opening sequence of ГЉtre et Avoir, we wanted to open the film with a train passing by city landscape and finally arriving at Haggerston Overground station where Hackney Pirates is based. At first, the director was not sure about what exactly she was expecting from the shot, whether just the train passing by city landscape would be enough as an introduction or we have to let it come to a stop i.e. Haggerston in order to provide extra geographic information. We travelled many times on the train between Shoreditch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Development of a Lab-on-a-Chip Device to Detect DNA Double... Proposal Summary We propose to develop a lab on a chip device for the detection of DNA double strand breaks in situ. Current technology requires laborious manipulation of the cell sample by fixation and staining with antibody and an optical based detection. All in all, the process may take up to several days before results are retrieved. The development of an on site, immediate monitoring system will greatly benefit our understanding of DNA damage causes and prevention as well assessment of radiation risk by tracking such events instantaneously. Our proposed device is based on individually addressable carbon nanotube (CNT) array capable of multiplexing for detection of multiple analytes and targets from a biological sample. The impact of this device in our information based world is manifold. Not only will the device make it accessible for the user to track, assess and follow trends of their own DNA damage levels but also empowers the user in making more informed lifestyle choices. Introduction With rising urbanization, the DNA in our cells is increasingly being exposed to DNA damaging agents such as UV light, mutagenic chemicals, reactive oxygen species generated by Ionizing Radiation (IR) or redox cycling by heavy metal ions and radio mimetic drugs etc. DNA Double strand breaks (DSBs) occur when reactive oxygen species react with DNA bases causing lesions in the chromosomes and the formation of foci known as Radiation induced foci (RFI). RFI are marked by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Reflection About Geography Every other year, my high school offers a College in the Schools (CIS) geography course. In this course, there is one assignment that all the upperclassmen would always complain about. As an underclassman, I had dreaded the year that I was going to be receiving this assignment due to having a tendency to save my projects for last minute. I will never forget the mapthat taught me that procrastination makes the process of completing assignments more difficult, especially on a project that is for a college class. In the beginning of November 2016, my junior year, our college geography class received our quarter project: a map of the world. Our teacher, Mr.Sharstrom, assigned our class a large number of physical features that our maps needed to include such as rivers, lakes, islands, mountain ranges, seas, oceans, and deserts. Mr.Sharstrom required us to include all seven continents and a key that showed distinctions in the different physical features of the world. The maps needed to be to scale and show a minimum amount of distortion as possible. When we received our project, our geography teacher warned us, This project will be time consuming and you will not want to wait until the week before to start your maps. After communicating expectations with the class, a majority of my classmates began to work on their maps. I knew that my family was traveling to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, for Thanksgiving break, so I wanted to attempt to complete as much of the map as possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Who Is Dionysus In The Bacchae Euripides uses the god Dionysus in The Bacchae in order to emphasize that humans need to embrace irrational behavior in their day to day lives. In Thebes, Dionysus finds a structured and ordered society, with their goal simply being to work as hard as possible, while Dionysus aims to simply live to have fun and make merry. Due to the disrespect given to him by the Thebans as a result of their differences, Dionysusaims to take revenge and force the people to worship him by destroying their society and recreating it in his image. Dionysus and Theban society are complete opposites. Dionysus is considered to be the godof wine and merriment. He and his followers live life to the fullest, epitomizing the idea of carpe diem and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite Dionysus repeatedly trying to convince King Pentheus to see logic, the constant rebuffing at every turn eventually leads to him giving up reconciliation and condemning the king to death. As soon as King Pentheus says bring me my arms, attendants! and stop talking, you!, there is no more talking to be done, and one can see that at this point that the always rational King Pentheus has repressed the irrational, represented by Dionysus, since he is quite literally calling for his weapons to kill Dionysus and his followers. (Euripides 809). Since King Pentheus has rejected what Dionysus has had to say and called for his armor, Dionysus is left with no choice but to become vengeful and consequently starts to lead King Pentheus to his doom. The critic AJ Podlecki refers to this when he says Dionysus had told Pentheus, but he did not heed the warning, for his final assault on the Bacchae is seen as a mad expedition which he is bound to fail (Podlecki 151). Dionysus had warned Pentheus not to do anything rash, because there was no chance that he could defeat a god in battle. However, due to the fact that Pentheus has made the decision to raise his sword against the Bacchante, he has exhausted the patience of Dionysus and has therefore set himself up for his ... • 7. Identifiable Sick Role Methodology During the interaction between doctors and patients with medical situations, the identifiable sick role is described as a social process. Doctors use usual biomedical diagnostic techniques but depend also on their personal experience, logic and opinion in checking if the patient is legitimately sick. So therefore legitimacy of illness is often strictly based on a doctor. Many people report pain in the body that cannot be diagnosed by medical doctors. These reports of unknown illness questions credibility of doctors and ultimately if the patient is legitimately sick. These illnesses are called termed M medically U unexplained S symptoms. The following study which was done in Denmark gives a view about modern day sociological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is sick role still relevant in modern times? Data showed that if a person was categorised as Sick Role then they could be granted sick leave, social grant and compensation. Illnesses that affected people were not constraint to a specific period of time but rather affected almost everyone at some point in their lives. It is inevitable that people would be sick and as such the sick role was found to still have relevance today, for it is inevitable that it would be implemented. Conclusion The ultimate gatekeeper of sick role would be the doctor. They provide the necessary establishment of social control or play the role of an ethical care giver in society, using their authority to differentiate between normality and deviance in social systems. • 8. Commodity Racism I watched the first black mirror episode and then the episode 3 (episode 1 stood out the most). One of the first things that stood out to right from the beginning was how they tried to make it a really future type feel, these episodes were actually really hard for me to watch because of the fact that our world could turn out to be like the episodes where no one knows the world out side of their phone. In the first episode a few terms that stood out to me was commodity fetishism, Hyper real, and a major one was satire. The first term that showed the most to me was commodity fetishism which is exchange value via cultural status comes before use value, things are not valued for what they cost and connotations attached to it, this process hides ... This was really big when she started to look in the mirror and laugh different ways and she automatically got a response on how people would rate her based on how her laugh and how she looked was. Another part was when her son was on the couch playing a video game with the virtual reality headset which made the rest of the world invisible. When his mother walked in and asked him a question he had no clue that she asked him a question, this also relates to when they were getting tea and how everyone was on there phone and not talking to other people they were living their world through their phone. This is probably the most realistic term that relates the episodes to the real life today. With the invention of the virtual reality headsets this is one thing I could see and already seeing become a reality. Another part where you saw this in the episode was when she meet the people going to tranquility con, those people were living in a world where they characters not living in the real world and this is something we already see today Satire was one of the terms that I was the most in the videos. Satire means a humorous critique this happened a lot in the episodes where people would rate someone and whether it be a good or bad critique they would act like they are friends and put on a fake act to look happy. • 10. Epicureanism Reflection After class discussions, have you had any realizations or made any changes in regard to the philosophies that influences your decisions, actions, or preferences? Has your level of conscious choice to these philosophies changed? Why or why not? Answer: Before Humanities 210, my processes for decision making and preference development were based on more mental pleasure than physical pleasure. Happiness was the ideal feeling and I would try to feel happy as long as possible. Having wonderful relationships with family and friends, making wise decisions, and thinking of ways to improve life were the most important goals to achieve happiness. However, when moments of extreme happiness emerged, great sadness followed. Although it was unclear at the time, I was following the concepts of Epicureanism. Richard Paul Janaro and Thelma C. Altshuler, authors of The Art of Being Human: The Humanities as a Technique for Living, say that Epicureanism believes complete happiness is a moderate amount of pleasure with freedom from pain (338). Thus, I realized moderation of pleasure regulates feelings of sadness. My belief in Epicureanism developed as I recalled periods of suffering and realized I became happy as the suffering subsided. Regarding religion, my parents and grandmother practice Buddhism, but they never forced it on me and my sisters so the religion is not as familiar. However, learning about Buddhism was interesting as it is applicable to everyday life. One salient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Magic Realism In The Mistress Of Spices In this present technologically superfast world, where the click of buttons is changing the way people think, plan and execute their works and live their lives, virtual reality , surrealism , hyper reality are the terms in vogue. They are so commonly used everywhere that they may not seem fanciful any more. However, the excitement in superstitions, magic and mysticism still prevails. India has always caught the imagination of foreigners as the land of hidden secrets it is viewed as a hub of cosmic energy and emerging super power. The secret of Ayurvedas, the variety and depth in art forms like dance and music are equally attractive as Kamasutra and Yoga. The co existence of various religions, cultures, languages has always been a source of amazement. The festivities, the rituals and the mythological significances keep the attraction alive.... Magic realism is intermingling of reality with fantasy or imagination with the use of folk lore, fables, and mythological stories in such a way which captures the sensation of the audience in spite of knowing the truth. Metaphors In Poetry M S Essay Hope is the thing with Feather пјЊ by Emily DickinsonпјЊ and The Path not taken пјЊ by Robert FrostпјЊare poems that skillfully use metaphors and symbolisms to emphasize the theme of how hope and decisions have a considerable impact on our lives. While hope allows us to conquer difficult moments that life throws at us, decision also plays an important role in our lives, for it determines what path we will go and determines our future. Robert Frost created a poem about the journey of life. The diverging road in the yellow wood is used to symbolize a person s life. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the use of metaphor and symbolism, the theme is easily developed. Hope is a word that delivers an abstract meaning of what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best . The image of a bird perches in the soul and sings the sweetest gale both suggests how hope is the necessary inspiration human s need in life to motivate them. Hope stays alive in human s mind, with inspiration and motivation never stop[ping] . Although the song it sings is without the word , the message it delivers can always be felt. Hope is also strong and undefeatable; it sings its songs in the chilliest land and strangest sea and can only be destroyed by the sorest storm . It experiences all circumstances and is always there to overcome problems. Aside from all the help hope provided, its help is also unrequited, for it has never asked a crumb of me (15). While hope helps human to overcome suffering in their lives, The Road not taken implies the theme of the importance of making choices since the choice one makes will change one s whole life. It is true that many regret not taking the other choice, which is the road not taken in the poem, but humans will realize that the choice they choose determines their identity. The narrator knows that his choice will make all the difference since the destination each road leads to will be totally different. When facing two equally attractive choices, it is even harder to make a decision. The narrator struggles with letting go and he even thinks about saving the road not taken for another day. However, once a choice is made, there is no turning back. Ages and ages hence , the narrator looks back and tells his decision with a sign and regrets his decision of taking the road less traveled by , it is the road he took that has ... That administration, now known worldwide as NASA, has become an icon of space explorationand mankind s accomplishments. Who would have thought that fifty years later, NASAs future would be so uncertain? Congress has recently proposed a bill that would significantly cut funding from the NASA s Constellation program. One could argue that NASA is a waste of time, and that Congress s plans a good thing, but there are many benefits to continuing the Constellation program. Adult Basic Education Programs For Adult Education Adult Basic Education programs exist in the United States to provide second chance educational services to adults 18 and older who test below a twelve grade level in reading, language, or math. This is made possible through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which was signed into law by President Obama on July 22, 2014, revising and reauthorizing the Workforce Reinvestment Act (WIA) of 1998 (H.R. 803, 2014). Outcome measures include adult student educational functioning level gains in reading, math, and language literacy; student gains in the skills and knowledge areas needed to become employable; an increase in adult student parental involvement, and completion of high schoolequivalency diplomas. These outcomes reflect the goals of the WIA adult education program, which are to improve English literacy and language skills needed for self sufficiency, to assist in completion of high school, and to place adults into postsecondary and employment training programs (Condelli, Castillo, Seburn, Deveaux, 2002). In addition, a general consumer market was developed to send wealth to Europe and allow for capital accumulation, all for the benefit of the colonizers. Slavery represents an important part of Jamaican history and the cultivated dominant atmosphere. For one, plantations highly depended on slave labor to maximize profit margins. Following the game I soon proceeded to have a multitude of knee surgeries and numerous years of physical therapy. Unfortunately, a good quality education that will ensure a successful and economically stable future for our children today is not available to all children, especially young Black males. According to Jenkins (2006) in the needs assessment for African AmericanMen of Arizona State University (AAMASU) program, the university noted that Black males experience a high level of underachievement in the higher education arena, over involvement in the criminal system, and high rates of unemployment, poverty, and dying via homicide (Arizona State University, 2004). All too often African American males have been caught in a web of stereotyped notions of raceand gender that place them at considerable disadvantages in schools and ultimately society (Howard, 2008). We predicted that ATP solution in distilled water might cause muscle contraction since ATP alone binds to myosin to break the cross bridge and enable the myosinto rebind to actin at the next musclecontraction. ( ATP and Muscle Contraction . Boundless Biology) All three groups were given a 2cm length of psoas muscle, which was placed on a microscope slide with a small drop of glycerol. First, we measured each fiber, and then added 2 drops of one of the solutions, Solution A; .25% ATP in distilled water, Solution B; .25% ATP solution in water, .05M KCI, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water, and Solution C; .05 M KC1, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water. We waited 30 seconds after adding the solution and we measured the fiber again to see if there was any muscle concentration after adding the solution. Our hypothesis was not supported, because the fiber size did not change. Working in garment production at home can allow women to earn an income and help with children and at home (WIEGO). Many countries such as Bangladesh, India, Cambodia and Bangkok, the fast fashion manufacturing makes up most of the countries export earnings. According to Mobarak, a professor of economics at Yale, garment factory jobs bring about meaningful development for women. Instead of banning imports from Bangladesh, as has been suggested, we should instead work to improve safety. Cultures and villages surrounding the garment and textile industry have also seen decreases of early marriage and childbirth, which allows more women to gain an education and work. Many women and girls who live near a garment factory are 28% less likely to be married and 29% less likely to have given birth than those living in villages farther away from a factory (Mobarak).
