An empirical study on impact of infrastructural development on social and eco...Alexander Decker
The document presents an empirical study on the impact of infrastructural development on socio-economic growth in Indian states. It uses panel regression techniques to measure the impact of infrastructural investment on the mortality rate and per capita income across 16 major Indian states from 1987 to 2008. The study finds that infrastructural investment has a significant and desirable impact on social and economic indicators, though the impact varies across different states. Fixed effect panel regression models are used to account for differences in intercepts across states.
The document summarizes the key findings of the Urban Index Russia 2011 research. It surveyed over 300 experts from 12 major Russian cities on factors affecting urban development.
The research found that Russian cities generally receive an "F+" grade based on perceptions of their urban environments. Road infrastructure and traffic received the lowest ratings, while commerce and communication infrastructure received the highest. Basic needs like healthcare, education and safety received middling ratings.
Experts identified improving transportation as the top development priority. Health, education, and public services were also priorities, despite receiving only average ratings currently. Business environments were seen as more developed than for residents or tourists. Experts had greater faith in improved management than civic engagement or technology to enhance urban development
Logistics Systems Design for the Yangtze River Delta Regionarttan2001
This presentation utilizes Hierarchical Cluster Analysis, Principal Component Analysis and Data Envelopment Analysis in the identification of clusters of provinces in the YRD Region in China.
This document presents a literature review on transport flows between Europe and Asia, specifically China and Russia. It finds that trade between Europe and China is growing and will continue to do so in the future, shifting from eastbound to westbound traffic. Trade with Russia is also expected to increase slightly with traffic shifting from east to west. The review examines trade data for Finland and Sweden, finding their largest trading partner is the EU, while Russia and China are also important. It analyzes worldwide logistics performance based on the Logistics Performance Index, finding Northern European countries like Germany and Sweden rank highest while China and Russia lag behind.
This paper focuses on emerging labour patterns within the Socio-Ecological Transition (SET), with particular attention paid to the effects of urbanisation. Based on the European Labour Force Survey (ELFS), the authors mobilize micro-econometric approaches in order to understand three major employment patterns: job mobility (between unemployment, inactivity, and employment), the desire to change jobs, and underemployment (i.e. part time jobs) in the European Union.
The results show that the urbanization transition might express some positive effects on the labour market in the medium-term for several reasons. The employment rate has slightly decreased in all types of regions, yet it remains higher in urban settlements. Urban settlements offer more job opportunities and more part-time employment options. However, cyclical shocks tend to have a higher impact on urban areas when compared to rural areas. This means higher chances for employment in urban settlements during a boom and more job losses during a slow-down (causing less security on the labour market).

This document is an introduction to sociology that covers several key topics:
- It defines sociology as the scientific study of society, human social behavior, and the social structures influencing these.
- It provides a brief history of sociology from early social philosophers to the development of the field in the 19th century.
- It distinguishes sociology from other social sciences like psychology, economics, and political science by its focus on broader social and cultural influences.
This document provides an overview of key concepts in sociology. It defines sociology as the scientific study of human society and human social behavior. It discusses related fields like social psychology, anthropology, economics, and political science. It also defines and compares key sociological concepts like society, community, social structure, social institutions, roles, culture, acculturation, social control, customs, and social problems. This document provides an introduction to sociology. It defines sociology as the scientific study of human social relationships and interactions. Sociology offers unique benefits like helping us understand social issues, how social systems shape our lives, why societies change, and providing theoretical perspectives to study social life. The history of sociology traces back to early philosophers but was established as a distinct field by Auguste Comte in the 19th century. Important early sociologists sought to bring social concerns to light and advance sociological understanding of society. Developing a sociological imagination allows one to understand how personal lives intersect with social forces. Careers that apply sociology are also listed.
Sociology is the systematic study of human behavior and social relationships. It examines how societies are formed and change over time through social influences. The sociological perspective and imagination allow us to analyze societies from a broad viewpoint by considering social structures, histories, and human experiences. The founders of sociology in the 19th century, including Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, and Max Weber, established frameworks for understanding social institutions and change through empirical research. They influenced the development of sociology as an academic discipline focused on understanding all aspects of social life scientifically.
Anthropology and sociology are both social sciences that study humans, but they have different focuses. Anthropology takes a broader view, examining humans' physical and cultural evolution over time, as well as artifacts from the past. Sociology focuses more on how and why humans behave in certain ways within societies. While anthropology looks more at history and cultures across different groups, sociology examines current social behaviors and their development. Both fields provide insight into cultural practices and social norms.
This document defines and compares key sociological concepts:
1) Society is a collection of individuals united through social relationships and interdependence, while community refers to a smaller group sharing a locality and sense of belonging.
2) An association is a deliberately formed group pursuing shared interests through organization, whereas an institution represents established social norms and structures for meeting needs.
3) A social system consists of interacting individuals following cultural norms and common goals, distinguished from other systems by boundaries.
Content analysis is a research technique that:
1) Determines the presence of certain words or concepts within texts through quantitative analysis.
2) Researchers quantify and analyze the presence, meanings and relationships of words/concepts to make inferences about messages, writers, audiences, and cultural contexts.
3) The process involves coding a text by breaking it into categories, then examining occurrences and relationships of concepts through conceptual analysis (counting concepts) or relational analysis (examining relationships among concepts).
Sociology and its difference with other social sciencesDr.Kamran Ishfaq
This document discusses the differences and relationships between sociology and other social sciences such as history, anthropology, political science, psychology, and economics. It explains that while each social science focuses on a different aspect of social life, they are also interrelated. For example, sociology studies modern societies and social institutions, anthropology studies primitive cultures, history studies past events, political science examines government and politics, psychology analyzes individual behavior, and economics deals with economic activities and organizations. The document provides details on the scope, methods, and focus of each discipline to clarify how they are both similar and distinct from sociology.
The document discusses pre-industrial, industrial, and modern societies. It notes that pre-industrial societies had simple technology, low division of labor, and dominance of religious beliefs. Features of industrial societies included mass production, occupation specialization, large cities, and rapid social change. Overall, the document examines how social structures have changed from early hunting/gathering and agrarian societies to today's industrial societies.
Content analysis is a research technique used to objectively, systematically, and quantitatively analyze the manifest content of communications. It can be used to analyze any type of recorded media, such as text, images, or videos. There are two main types: conceptual analysis, which establishes the frequency of concepts, and relational analysis, which examines relationships between concepts. Content analysis is useful for reducing large amounts of unstructured data, identifying important aspects of content, and making inferences about messages, authors, and cultural contexts. While it provides an unobtrusive means of analysis, it can also be time-consuming and reductive when dealing with complex materials.
The document discusses the scope of sociology in the fields of knowledge and profession. It describes several specialized fields of sociology that provide knowledge about different aspects of human social life. It also lists some common professional roles for sociologists, including teaching, research, and administration. Finally, it provides details on various social welfare programs and services in Pakistan, including orphanages, vocational training centers, and medical assistance projects.

It will seek to understand how privacy is diffused in Lilong neighborhoods through the morphology of spaces and perceptions of residents. Expected outputs include data visualizations, cognitive maps of place perceptions, and contributions to theories of sense of place in Chinese culture. Findings will be disseminated academically and to the public.
