The Challenges
• During 2015/16 Windows Server 2003 and 2003 R2 and SQL 2005 reached
End of Support. Organizations that have not taken remedial action are
vulnerable to security breaches when new flaws in their Operating Systems
and DB systems are discovered and fixes are no longer readily available.
These challenges will continue to be compounded the longer organizations
delay migration decisions and by the lack of vendor-provided support.
• Companies still running within these environments must analyze the impact of
this event on their businesses and make decisions about what actions to take.
• For many their effective strategy has been to delay migration by subscribing to
a Microsoft Custom Support agreement. This incurs a per Server, Per annum
charge of in the order of US$ 3,000 just for the OS. Alternately many
