This document discusses designing learning environments that promote Gross National Happiness (GNH) through networked learning. It introduces GNH, which measures happiness through subjective and objective factors, and was established in Bhutan. The document argues that GNH can be conceived as the medium for learning rather than just the message or outcome. Specifically, GNH as a medium focuses on infusing learning with cultural diversity, mindfulness, time use and ecology through networked technologies. Some examples of issues to explore are how social media impacts multitasking and self-direction, and how technology could increase awareness of others' happiness.
