Special Olympics is a unique entity in itself and it has some of the best things that can be offered to those who have developmental disabilities. It is so unique because it is something that can be person centered to assist the individuals. The idea of person-centered allows for the individual to be the focus and not force them to do things that they are not interested in and do not understand. According to Bowers (2005), "With people with ID actively seeking opportunities to have more control over their lives and to have their social roles valued, this study offers an important contribution by listening to the perspectives of people with ID who attend and do not attend Special Olympics, alongside the views of their families and the staff who work with them. " Person-centered planning is something that is necessary in order for the individual to do this successfully. According to Demanchick (2003), "Although cognitively and developmentally deficient, these two individuals experienced growth during a series of sessions in which the core conditions of empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard were present. These two adults with developmental disabilities flourished when given the opportunity to experience Person-Centered Play Therapy. Mark and Melissa were able to experience greater autonomy, environmental and self-control, confidence and self-expression."
Special Olympics provides individuals with developmental disabilities an outlet to do the things that people who are considered normal do. According to Bowers (2005), "Families also felt Special Olympics provided opportunities to strengthen relationships within the whole family and allowed them to socialise within new circles in the community." It is important to be able to have programs that that are designed and suitable for the community. When this does not happen, it becomes a barrier for the individual that the program is designed to help. According to Bowers (2005), "Whilst being involved in Special Olympics may have benefits for families and athletes, there can be practical implications that may result in barriers to participation." Evidence based practices is a unique way in which one can get things done to o what needs to be done; however, there comes a time where there are some issues with that as well. According to Royse (2016), "according to the model of EBP, the practitioner must respect the client's values, and not simply apply research-supported treatments without taking into account client's views."

During the nineteenth century there was a rise of many ideals three of which were nationalism, socialism, and liberalism. The one I believe affected the first half of the century the most was socialism. Even though liberalism played a very large role in the influence of the initial revolution during the enlightenment period, the plight of the people and the unbalance in how people were treated ultimately led to the revolutions that took place in 1848. There needed to be a balance between the upper class and the lower and socialism attempts to implement that ideal as much as possible. There was a point where people could not at one point afford bread but were still expected to pay taxes. While the enlightenment ideals surely pushed the people to want change, there was not enough influence to create a successful revolution. Once that had failed and people of power once again took over, the need for fairness and equality took place of those ideals.
The revolution of 1848 focused on providing for those who were unable to take care of themselves. Homes for veterans of labor, promise of labor to all citizens, and working men entering into associations in order to enjoy the advantage of their labor are some examples of the reforms that took place. For the people by the people and some of these examples seem as though France had created the original worker's unions by how the workers were able to enter into associations (Busek). Even though there were many liberal reforms in place it was socialism that drove this change. The need for balance and equality overcame what was once a controlling empire.

Special Olympics is a unique entity in itself and it has some of the best things that can be offered to those who have developmental disabilities. It is so unique because it is something that can be person centered to assist the individuals. The idea of person-centered allows for the individual to be the focus and not force them to do things that they are not interested in and do not understand. According to Bowers (2005), "With people with ID actively seeking opportunities to have more control over their lives and to have their social roles valued, this study offers an important contribution by listening to the perspectives of people with ID who attend and do not attend Special Olympics, alongside the views of their families and the staff who work with them. " Person-centered planning is something that is necessary in order for the individual to do this successfully. According to Demanchick (2003), "Although cognitively and developmentally deficient, these two individuals experienced growth during a series of sessions in which the core conditions of empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard were present. These two adults with developmental disabilities flourished when given the opportunity to experience Person-Centered Play Therapy. Mark and Melissa were able to experience greater autonomy, environmental and self-control, confidence and self-expression."
Special Olympics provides individuals with developmental disabilities an outlet to do the things that people who are considered normal do. According to Bowers (2005), "Families also felt Special Olympics provided opportunities to strengthen relationships within the whole family and allowed them to socialise within new circles in the community." It is important to be able to have programs that that are designed and suitable for the community. When this does not happen, it becomes a barrier for the individual that the program is designed to help. According to Bowers (2005), "Whilst being involved in Special Olympics may have benefits for families and athletes, there can be practical implications that may result in barriers to participation." Evidence based practices is a unique way in which one can get things done to o what needs to be done; however, there comes a time where there are some issues with that as well. According to Royse (2016), "according to the model of EBP, the practitioner must respect the client's values, and not simply apply research-supported treatments without taking into account client's views."

During the nineteenth century there was a rise of many ideals three of which were nationalism, socialism, and liberalism. The one I believe affected the first half of the century the most was socialism. Even though liberalism played a very large role in the influence of the initial revolution during the enlightenment period, the plight of the people and the unbalance in how people were treated ultimately led to the revolutions that took place in 1848. There needed to be a balance between the upper class and the lower and socialism attempts to implement that ideal as much as possible. There was a point where people could not at one point afford bread but were still expected to pay taxes. While the enlightenment ideals surely pushed the people to want change, there was not enough influence to create a successful revolution. Once that had failed and people of power once again took over, the need for fairness and equality took place of those ideals.
The revolution of 1848 focused on providing for those who were unable to take care of themselves. Homes for veterans of labor, promise of labor to all citizens, and working men entering into associations in order to enjoy the advantage of their labor are some examples of the reforms that took place. For the people by the people and some of these examples seem as though France had created the original worker's unions by how the workers were able to enter into associations (Busek). Even though there were many liberal reforms in place it was socialism that drove this change. The need for balance and equality overcame what was once a controlling empire.

The “Small-Mart” Economy For many, the idea of a green economy run by big, global corporations is anathema. To be truly sustainable—in the true sense of environmental, social, and economic well-being— requires a return to localization, to smaller, more personal sys- tems of commerce that connect each of us to the origins of the things we buy, as well as to the people who make and sell them. Michael Schuman refers to this as the Small-Mart Revolution, which is the title of his 2006 book on the topic. “Small-Mart” refers to locally owned businesses that are, in aggregate, more reliable generators of good jobs, economic growth, tax dollars, community wealth, charitable contribu- tions, social stability, and political participation, according to Shuman. In his book, Shuman makes clear that this “revolution” is about “far more than fighting chain stores.” In fact, he says, it is notable as much for what it stands for as for what it is against. Shuman is for profit-making businesses, even big ones (under certain circumstances). He is for jobs and, presumably,
some reasonable level of consumption. In fact, the only thing for which he is demonstrably against is “the vast web of laws and public policies that directly disadvantage small and local businesses” in favor of large, global ones. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
