calling
Kaushik’s father called him
while he was back in
college and told him that
he got married in a formal
ceremony
A few years later
He struggled to deal with the
reality of his father being in
another marriage now after
his mother’s death
He still agreed to meet them on Christmas
He was anxious, to
deal with the change,
to accept the reality as
it was now.
He was Reminded of how his father had
stashed away all pictures of his mother in a
shoe box because he could not bear to see
them
Kaushik managed to establish a good relationship
with his step sisters, Rupa and Piu and they
developed a liking towards him
Their bond was based
upon how they all had
to suffer losing a parent.
The father in the case of
the girls
However Kaushik was having a hard time adjusting
with his step mom.
He felt as if his father was with her only to replace
that feeling of lonliness and having some to do all
the dirty work.
One night Kaushik’s father
and step mother went out
for a party leaving him
alone with his sisters
That night Kaushik found his sisters playing with the
shoe box full of his mothers pictures, this was the last
straw he unloaded on them and told them what he
really thought of their mother
Kaushik then left the house feeling guilty about what
he had done, but he did not turn back, abandoning
his sisters. He drove all the way to the Canadian
border over the next few days
CANADA
Kaushik did not meet his father or step mother and
sisters till the day he was graduating from college.
That was the day his father explained to him how
the two were slowly drifting away from each
other, his proceeded with telling him that he was
shifting to a different city. Kaushik had no plans
to move.
