National Conference Presence and Value
In addition to sponsoring the high school students, we shared Monsanto career opportunities at the career fair,
chool
placed renewed emphasis on building a relationship with the national organization, learned from other companies
ational
that have successfully leveraged their relationship with BDPA, and increas our overall presence at the
increased
conference.
Highlights include: Conducting several strategy sessions with BPDA National Officers and other company
and
representatives; Amy Komnick representing the ITLT, as a member of the “CIO Panel” discussion, Fabianna Solari
serving as a judge for the IT Showcase - a college/high school research competition and Arthur Downes II serving
competition-
as a judge for the Video Challenge.
The conference logistics were flawlessly planned and executed by our new Conference Coordinator Raymond
Elangovan.
2. Local Chapter Engagement
One of the goals for 2012 was to help grow the local chapter. In previous years, Monsanto and Ameren were the
sole sponsors for the local chapter. This year, we formed a Corporate Executive Advisory Council (with Oseyi
we
Ikuenobe and Vincent Shorter representing Monsanto) to help guide the chapter’s Board of Directors. The council,
Th
led by Vincent Shorter, now includes representation/sponsorship from MasterCard, Webster University, Microsoft,
Deloitte, and Emerson. We worked with the chapter to develop long range strategies and goals. This effort has
goals
helped to energize the chapter and attract new m
d members to the local BDPA organization.
Increased Monsanto Participation and People Development
The success achieved this year is a direct result of the increased participation from Monsanto employees. Our
volunteer team grew from 5 members in 2011 to 15 in 2012. The increased participation allowed the team to focus
d
on key areas of improvement from last year strengthen the student training curriculum, and leverage additional
year,
resources to support the BDPA initiative.
Volunteers also benefited by personal and professional development. Volunteers provided leadership in the local
l
chapter, developed presentations to share Monsanto’s business and research functions, and demonstrated project
and crisis management skills. Involvement in BPDA also gave team members the opportunity to develop long range
plans, manage budgets and plan/execute conference logistics. We continue to see BDPA as a great opportunity to
develop skills and to grow as an IT professional
professional.
