Digital agencies are sought as the experts to deliver websites and other digital products, yet many fail to incorporate accessibility, unless it is for a project for government, a major financial institution or telco.
This presentation highlights some of the challenges within digital agencies for those who wish to champion accessibility, as well as what agencies can do to change and support the inclusion of accessibility and inclusive design for all sites and products.
It also provides some indicative data on how few people with disabilities are sought for research by digital agencies and companies in general, despite that such people face accessibility barriers in websites, apps and other digital products on a regular basis.
This is the presentation I gave at Ally Camp Sydney 2017.

Those companies have innovated further, quicker than competitors and they’ve done it so well that the services they deliver seem “obvious” in hindsight. But to compete with them, and whatever comes next, your organisation is going to have to do something even more awesome.

Leading an organisation through the realities of innovation is hard. Organisations are typically well adapted to doing what they do, they way they’ve always done it. Agile ME 2018 - Agile That Matters
My presentation from Agile ME 2018, Dubai March 10th, about how Agile can be so much more than just a process we follow blindly in order to “certify” ourselves as being fully agile – it’s a mindset and a culture, and utilized and empowered the right way we can gain value as individuals in our every day of work, even beyond working with IT, projects and iterations.
In the session, I talked about the true power behind the Modern Agile mindset, and shared how this new approach to agility can help uncovering better ways of getting awesome results.
Remote Working/Learning
Remote working provides opportunities for flexible work arrangements but also presents challenges. It requires strong self-management and communication skills. Preparing for remote work involves treating yourself as the manager by setting goals and priorities. Communication is key, both synchronous and asynchronous. Remote workers must also find ways to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid isolation through community engagement and physical activity. Overall, remote work allows accessing new opportunities if one adapts to its requirements for independence and communication.

If there’s one thing about content on which humans and machines can agree, it’s consistency — particularly architectural consistency. Often the format, markup language, or content management approach that you use is far less relevant than the output of the content—the deliverables, themselves—in the success of content for both humans and machines. This is somewhat controversial, as much of the discussion of “structured content” dives directly to the underlying format—even though the architecture and design of the resulting experience and content within that experience should be driving those more technical decisions.
Arguably, the most critical aspect of structured content—“the architecture”—drives the success of the content for people and machines. The pitfalls of leaping directly into a technology discussion—about XML, content management systems, etc.—vs. spending the right time and focus on design can often lead to significantly less successful content, rework, and additional cost.
Attend this mini-workshop with Andrea Ames to better understand content modeling at the deliverable and experience level—not at the individual article or topic level. You’ll learn about an approach for accomplishing great content architecture (one that can save time, reduce costs, and help you use your limited resources wisely). Hypothesis-driven approach to MVP development

If there’s one thing about content on which humans and machines can agree, it’s consistency — particularly architectural consistency. Often the format, markup language, or content management approach that you use is far less relevant than the output of the content—the deliverables, themselves—in the success of content for both humans and machines. This is somewhat controversial, as much of the discussion of “structured content” dives directly to the underlying format—even though the architecture and design of the resulting experience and content within that experience should be driving those more technical decisions.
Arguably, the most critical aspect of structured content—“the architecture”—drives the success of the content for people and machines. The pitfalls of leaping directly into a technology discussion—about XML, content management systems, etc.—vs. spending the right time and focus on design can often lead to significantly less successful content, rework, and additional cost.
Attend this mini-workshop with Andrea Ames to better understand content modeling at the deliverable and experience level—not at the individual article or topic level. You’ll learn about an approach for accomplishing great content architecture (one that can save time, reduce costs, and help you use your limited resources wisely).
