WSIS Project Prize 2012 e-Agriculture

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) established the e-Agriculture community to serve as a catalyst for sharing knowledge about how information and communication technologies (ICTs) can empower rural communities, improve livelihoods, and ensure food security. The e-Agriculture community brings together information and communication specialists, researchers, farmers, students, policymakers, entrepreneurs and development professionals. It facilitates knowledge sharing through online forums, events, and member projects in different countries on key topics like agricultural value chains, gender and ICT, mobile technologies, and public-private partnerships for ICT in agriculture.

Since 2009, WiLDAF has worked with women farmers in West Africa to promote their economic, political, and social rights using law as a tool. Under two projects funded by the Netherlands, WiLDAF empowered communities and women farmers' organizations on women's rights, trained traditional leaders, and helped over 3,000 women gain access to decision-making structures, land, credit, inputs and technology.
