I have takenvarious shots of my
subject:some successful andsome
unsuccessful. There are examplesof
unsuccessful photographs above that
are out of focus or close-ups which
could have onlybeen used onto
certainareas of the magazine cover
only. I have selectedthis image
because it is not too much ofa close
up that couldonlycover a certainarea
of the cover, this photographtakes
more space onthe cover and reveals
more of the subjects:clothing and
accessorieswhichshows more of their
personality. The processof transferring
this image to the cover hasbeen of
firstlyremovingthe greenscreen.
I have removed the green screenby
using the rubber tool andthenusedthe
magic wandto select the background
image. I right clickedontothe subject
and selected“Select inverse” which
meant that the programinstantly
selected the subject insteadof the
background. I then pressed “File” and
then “New”. ThenI selectedthe
template “ Internationalpaper” what
this means is that a blank template
wouldbe openedon a different tab,
this blankimage is the ideal size of a
magazine cover soit has beena good
choice due to the final ideaof a
magazine that I want to achieve. I
previouslyexperimentedwitha
different image of the group ofsubjects
but the wayinwhich the image took
over the cover of the magazine was
unsuitable for the writing which hasto
be hjaddedandthe Star bursts.
I have usedantwo NME covers as sources ofinspirationbut alsoguidance ofwhat myIndie rockmagazine shouldlook like. I have selected the main
colours whichwill be boldred and black due to the theme and genre of the magazine. The magazine shown inthe photograph above is not entirely
finished andthe backgroundwill not remainwhite. I wish to add a varietyof posters to be woninthe rectangle on the left handside as it hasbeen done
in one of the NME MAGAZINES.
I have foundthistexton
DAFONT.comthisfonthas
beenthe bestchoice due to
the fact that it isverybold,
futuristicandeye catching. It
iscalled Trebuchet
MS.Furthermore;thisfontis
suitable forthe theme of the
magazine andthe target
audience atwhichitis aimed
at. It iseasyto read and goes
well withthe background.
I have made the headerwhite withathickyellow
outline inordertodraw attentiontothat areaof the
magazine.The yellow textstandsoutagainstthe red
background.The reasonwhyI have usedthissimple
PhotoshopfontcalledPrestige EliteStdinsize 72p due
to the otherfontsI have importedfromDafont.com,
thishas allowedme toshowa widerrange of fontson
my magazine cover.
I have includedtwostarburstswhichpresentthe
viewerwithtwodifferentpiecesof informationsuch
as the chance of winningthe Zazzle.comvoucheror
the blue starburstpresentingthe audience withthe
questionandanswersfeaturesincludedinthe
magazine.InmothstarburstsI have usedan outline or
a shape to make the writingstandout. The level of
importance ismeasuredthroughthe colourof the
text,the mostimportanttextonthe cover of the
magazine isyellow andthe leastimportanttextis
white.
I have presentedthe
audience withafew
picturesof the artists
includedinthe magazine.
Thisaddedcolourand life
to my magazine andhas
contributedtoa great
visual aspectof my
magazine.Ihave alsoused
rectangularredshapes
behindthe shorttext next
to the images.Thishas
beendone tomake the
writingstandout.I have
usedboldyellowtextfor
the name of the artistsnot
onlyto lookboldandto
standout but to
differentiateitfromthe
restof the textbeneath.
I have createdmy ownbarcode usingPhotoshop.Ihave
lookedatan example barcode onthe Internet,which
guidedme intocreatingmyown.I have done thisbarcode
by creatingblackrectangle shapesof differentwidthsand
lengths andthenaddednumbersunderneathandthen
proceededtoalsoaddthe price of the magazine andthe
date of the day inwhichthe magazine isperhapspublished
on.
I have alsouseddetails
of the mainarticle on
the double spreadinside
the magazine.Ihave
positionedthe details
beneaththe boldyellow
title andhave made the
writingjustasbolddue
to the level of
importance whichis
seeninthe contentof
the magazine through
the boldnessof the text
and where itis
presentedonthe page.
I have taken a variety of photographs of my subjectand I
have chosen to use one picturefor the making of an
imaginary poster which will bepromoted on the cover of the
magazine on the left hand side.I will also takethe first
photograph and edit itin Photoshop later on and then
possibly finishingoff by addingitto the content page.
As you could see I have selected an image and removed the
green screen background. I have experimented with a
variety of lighting;contrastand colour balanceoptions and
then selected a good background design for the backdrop of
the image and created two new layers and added the
photographs behind the main layer of my subject.
I have selectedone image outof awide range of
imagestochoose from.I have thenremovedthe
greenscreenonPhotoshopusingthe rubberand
magic wandtools.Ihave thenremovedany
excesshair,whichIcouldnot remove the green
fromand thencreateda shadowaroundmy
subjecttomake her standout more from the
backgroundand outline the subjectwell.Ithen
placedthe image of my modelsontothe coverof
the magazine inthe box on the lefthandside
where all the names of the articlesare writtenin
yellow.
I repeatedthisprocessforthe picture of Libbi andJosie where I
have selectedaphotographoutof many otherimageswhich
bestsuitedthe coverof the magazine.Ihave removedthe green
screenandhave appliedthe image inthe article sectiononthe
coverpage of the magazine.
