BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO DO SOMETHING,
WHAT DO YOU DO?
Do you make plans?
How often do you make plans?
Who do you make plans with?
Why do you make plans?
What arrangements do you make?
Why do we need to plan and decide?
 When we need to do something, we often plan to make sure we
do what we need to do. For example, students need to pass
examinations and therefore they need to make plans.
 When we make plans, we also need to make arrangements.
Arrangements are the actions that we need to take to achieve
the plan.
 Arrangements are the things that we need to do before
following the plan. In short, arrangements help us to carry out
the plans effectively.
GRAMMAR – LANGUAGE USE
 We use ‘be going to’ to talk about plans, predictions (something that
would surely happen) or intentions (plans that has been already made)
I am going to meet my grandparents this weekend.
 We use ‘planning to’/’plan to’ /’intend to’ to talk about plans decided
before the moment of speaking
My friends and I are planning to go hiking during the holidays.
My friends and I plan to go shopping at Muscat Grand Mall.
I intend to study at the weekend as I have a test next week.
 We use the present continuous forms of the verbs to indicate a plan that
has been decided
My brother and I are flying to the UK next year.

MODEL ANSWER
I have my Writing test next week. I have made
some plans to study and score good marks. I
am planning to prepare for the test by studying
with my friends. First, I am going to write the
steps and take help from my friends to check
them. Then I am going to organize the steps so
that they are in the right order. After that, we
would check the spelling and grammar mistakes
by discussing with each other. Next, we check
the word limit to make sure that it is not less
than 100 words. After that, we plan to share it
with our teacher. If there are mistakes, we would
change them and send the final draft to our
teacher again. Finally, I would review and
prepare well for my test because I want to score
good marks.
