Why do you want to
study your chosen
subject? Explain how
your interest has
developed
I would love to study creative media in the sports journalism
section because it is a very great way of expressing my
personality and creativity. The media industry is also full of
different cultures, styles, diversity and forms of teamwork
which I am passionate about and would want to interact with
and study furthermore in higher education. I gained the
interest for the industry by listening to, watching and
analysing various types of media, from classical music to
modern day artists, from horror movies to nature programs.
Furthermore, I am intrigued about the industry by watching
and listening to media products and analysing the meaning
and what message it shows to the audience. My interest for
sports journalism developed from a young age as I am
passionate about football and Sunderland A.F.C and other
sports such as UFC and boxing.
What do you want to
do with your degree?
Why?
I would like to work in the media industry and travel the
world in order to learn about different cultures and
traditions, while reporting the beautiful game of football
which is a constant in nearly every country. Id love to use my
degree in the industry to express how the support,
inspiration, positivity, prosperity and most importantly
equality of the sport shows a wholesomeness and the
bringing of people together and creating one big community
which spans the world.
What skills have you
developed through
your college studies?
Throughout the years of college education I have acquired
multiple skills, including those of teamwork, research and
analysis, rational problem solving, technical skills in media,
experience in diegetic, non diegetic and foley sounds,
communication and the theory of media (studying the
purpose of product and effect in has on audiences.). Those
skills are used in all the media industry and day to day life.
What skills have you
developed through
work experience?
The skills that I have developed in work experience are
teamwork, media terminology, the use of music software’s
and music production, photoshop editing, media theory,
Analysis and research for clients, cultural education
(research into different cultures and the understanding of
people), video creating and editing, camera operating,
documenting/reporting. I also acquired the skill and
knowledge to create digital print adverts and video
interviews and documentaries. I work part time at a cinema
as part of the hospitality team to make sure everything is
well organised for clients and customers, which includes its
own challenges including timekeeping and the ability to speak
to members of the public.
What extra-curricular
activities have you
taken part in? What
In the past three academic years I have worked on numerous
projects. In one of the projects, which was the Smile
Campaign for a mental health charity, I conducted research

on mental heath statistics in the UK and its effects on men
and women various ages. For the main piece of work I
created a print advert which demonstrates three chapters
of recovery to a healthy mind set, complete with slogans to
send a positive message. I also worked on a project called
culture in the digital age where I completed research into
my environment and social media and the effect it has on
people within my demographic. For this project I created a
short documentary interview where I used greenscreen
effects and interviewed my college friend about the digital
evolution of music, movie, gaming, socialising and the effects
the internet and technology have on younger generations.
What are your
personal qualities?
In daily life, I am really compassionate, friendly and helpful
toward other people especially the ones that are struggling.
I am an open minded, people’s person that loves diversity and
bringing different people and cultures together. I like to
think outside the box and use my mind to its full potential
and be as positive, creative and helpful as I can. I find this
often helps my teammates and general people around me
complete tasks and solve problems. As a person with several
mental health difficulties, I took the time to study the
human mind and behaviour, and also the healthy strategies to
deal and overcome those issues. This helps me to analyse and
understand people that I meet and to create a healthy, safe
and prosperous environment for all. Studying nature is also
one of my qualities as I am obsessed with wildlife, nature and
the globe. From a very young age I was passionate about
Ancient History, including the Earth and its people. Now as a
young man I am well educated on a variety of history topics
in humanity, nature and animal life.
Why do you think unis
should make you an
offer? Why would you
make a good student?
Universities should pick me as their student, as I am a
compassionate, open-minded person with a hard work ethic
and a creative mind. I want to mix with different cultures
and a diverse range of people in higher education to learn
and share knowledge. For a person with mental health issues
I see the world as it is in black and white. I feel this gives
me the dedication to use my skill, knowledge and compassion
to add some colour to everything I do. It also helps me to
create a welcoming, accepting, equal, positive and prosperous
social and educational environment for fellow students and
myself.
I feel this viewpoint would make me an excellent candidate
for any university due to my drive and passion, and ability to
translate my knowledge and experience to everything I do.
